In recent years, the selection of C-segment electric vehicles in Malaysia has gradually become more diverse. Family users and young consumers are beginning to focus more on all-electric SUVs with a balanced configuration under RM300,000. The Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 AMG Line, as the brand's entry-level electric SUV, has attracted considerable attention since its launch due to Mercedes-Benz's brand appeal, the addition of the AMG sports package, and its rich intelligent configurations. In this test drive, we focus on experiencing its daily practicality, performance, and range to see if this car truly meets Malaysian consumers' expectations for a luxury electric vehicle.

The exterior of the EQA 250 AMG Line continues the design language of Mercedes-Benz's EQ series, with an overall sporty style. The front features a closed star grille adorned with a large three-pointed star badge in the center, which is highly recognizable. The sharply designed LED headlights on both sides are connected by a chrome strip running along the top of the grille, creating a visually wider appearance. The side body lines are smooth, with pronounced muscular arches over the front and rear wheels, complemented by 19-inch multi-spoke AMG alloy wheels, enhancing its sporty appeal. At the rear, the continuous LED taillight is a signature design of the EQ series, providing a striking effect when illuminated. The lower part of the rear bumper features black diffuser trim and two chrome-finished exhaust outlets (decoration only), further emphasizing the AMG Line's sporty positioning.

Inside the vehicle, the interior layout is similar to Mercedes-Benz's fuel models, with the familiar dual 10.25-inch screen design taking center stage in the dashboard. The left screen serves as a fully digital instrument cluster, while the right is a touchscreen infotainment display with a user-friendly and clear interface. The dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials and accented with silver trim, meeting the quality expectations of a luxury brand. The multifunction steering wheel supports heating and memory functions, providing a comfortable grip. The standard HUD (Head-Up Display) system displays information such as speed and navigation, which enhances driving convenience. The front seats are electrically adjustable with memory settings and come with heating functionality, which is practical for occasional rainy days or air-conditioned environments in Malaysia. The rear seats can be folded down in a 40:20:40 split, expanding the trunk capacity from 340L to a larger space, accommodating items such as strollers or suitcases for everyday use. Additionally, the rear features independent air conditioning vents and USB ports to fulfill the needs of rear passengers.

In terms of performance, the EQA 250 AMG Line is equipped with a front-mounted single electric motor delivering a maximum of 190PS horsepower and a peak torque of 370N·m, achieving an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 8.9 seconds. During daily driving, the car responds quickly from a stop, and a light press on the accelerator provides decent power output, making it easy to follow traffic or overtake in urban commutes. When switched to Sport mode, the power delivery becomes more direct, offering a significantly enhanced push-back sensation, though its overall tuning still leans towards comfort. The chassis employs a front MacPherson strut independent suspension and a rear multi-link independent suspension (though not explicitly stated in the specs, driving experience aligns with this segment's standards). The suspension is tuned to be firm yet supple; it effectively absorbs bumps when going over speed bumps or uneven roads without feeling overly stiff. When cornering at high speeds, the car's body roll is well-controlled, providing strong stability.

Range and power consumption are the most concerning points for EV users. The official range of the EQA 250 is 429 km. We drove it on both congested urban roads and highways, with each accounting for about half the trip. With air conditioning and music turned on throughout, the actual range achieved was about 80% of the official figure, and the power consumption remained around 17-18kWh/100km. Its performance is decent. In terms of charging, using a DC fast charging station to charge from 10% to 80% takes about 40 minutes, whereas slow charging takes about 8 hours, satisfying daily household or long-distance charging needs.

In terms of driving comfort, the EQA 250 offers good sound insulation — at speeds below 60 km/h, motor noise is almost inaudible, while at high speeds, there is slight wind and tire noise, but it does not interfere with conversations inside the car. Regenerative braking is adjustable with three levels. At the highest level, releasing the accelerator produces a noticeable drag effect, suitable for one-pedal driving in urban traffic; the lowest level provides a coasting sensation similar to that of a fuel-powered car, ideal for highway cruising. The seats offer moderate support, ensuring no fatigue even during prolonged drives. For rear passengers around 175 cm in height, there’s about two fist spaces of knee room and one fist space of headroom, so it doesn’t feel cramped.

In summary, the core advantages of the Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 AMG Line lie in the brand premium of Mercedes-Benz, abundant safety features (such as 7 airbags, active braking, and lane-keeping assistance as standard), and a comfortable driving and riding experience. Compared to the BMW iX1 or Audi Q4 e-tron in the same class, the EQA 250 is more competitively priced and offers more comprehensive features, making it stand out in terms of value for money. This car is suitable for families prioritizing brand prestige and comfort features, or young consumers seeking a vehicle for daily commuting and occasional long-distance travel. If your budget is within 300,000 MYR and you are looking for a luxury brand electric SUV, the EQA 250 AMG Line is worth considering.

Previously drove a fuel SUV, switching to the EQA 250 AMG Line was motivated by the Mercedes-Benz badge and the cost-saving benefits of an electric car. Interior: 4 stars. The dual screens and ambient lighting feel premium, but the extra cost for the Burmester sound system is a bit painful. Safety: 4 stars. With 7 airbags and active braking, it saved me once during a heavy morning traffic brake in KL; the system stopped the car for me, really shocking! Performance: 5 stars. The 370Nm torque is responsive and LDP lane keeping is super stable on the highway to Johor Bahru. As for the drawbacks, the 429km range gets reduced to 80% under Malaysia's intense heat, and occasional weekend trips to Genting require careful charging plans. Overall, I’m satisfied – a luxurious electric car great for city commuting!

Previously drove a fuel SUV, switching to the EQA 250 AMG Line was to try a luxurious pure electric vehicle. Performance 4/5: During the morning rush hour on Jalan Ampang, the 370N·m torque responds immediately, making overtaking smoother than a fuel car, but it's limited to 160km/h on the highway, lacking some excitement. Exterior 4/5: The AMG kit paired with 19-inch wheels grabs enough attention on KL streets, but the white color easily attracts rainforest bugs. Weekend trips to Genting see the range drop quickly, but the 429km range is enough for a week of daily commuting. The downside is the 340L trunk, which feels cramped when fitting a stroller and luggage. However, the luxurious feel and safety features (7 airbags + HUD) are worth the RM278k. With charging becoming more convenient in Malaysia, I don't regret choosing it.

Everyday traffic jams are a joy to tackle with the EQA! Quiet, smooth, and no leg shaking, the AMG package is super eye-catching while driving. The 429km range is enough to sustain a week of commuting, and even with three friends in the back seat, it doesn't feel cramped. The only small regret: the interior feels more plasticky than expected, but with full safety features, it’s reassuring to drive~

The previous car I drove was a fuel-powered SUV. Switching to the EQA 250 AMG Line was mainly for its design and green plate policy. The exterior design is truly impeccable. With the AMG kit and large wheels, it garners a high return rate on the streets of Kuala Lumpur. In terms of performance, it's more than sufficient for city commuting. Acceleration is smooth and quiet, making it particularly effortless during rush hour traffic. However, beyond 120 km/h on the highway, further acceleration does feel a bit sluggish. The safety features are very comprehensive, with 7 airbags and active braking. There was one time on the winding roads of Penang where I almost rear-ended someone, but the system intervened in time, giving me quite a scare. In terms of space, the rear seats can comfortably accommodate three people, and the trunk can easily fit two suitcases. For range, it can run around 400 km in the city, enough for a round trip to Genting on weekends. However, charging facilities in East Malaysia are still somewhat inconvenient. A small gripe is that the infotainment system occasionally lags, but overall, these are minor issues, and it's a very suitable choice for a family car.

This EQA 250 AMG Line has been driven for half a year, and during traffic jams on the commute, it accelerates smoothly at the press of the pedal. Its 8.9-second acceleration makes overtaking incredibly stable. The AMG package grabs lots of attention, though the 429 km range needs to be used sparingly under intense sunlight. However, fast charging is convenient, and the comprehensive safety features make trips with kids very reassuring.
