The demand for pure electric vehicles in the Malaysian market is gradually growing, with consumers looking for affordable prices without compromising on features. As Proton's first entry-level pure electric C-Segment model, the 2025 e.Mas 5 series, available in Prime and Premium versions, directly targets the pure electric market below 100,000 MYR. The starting price of 56,800 MYR for the Prime version addresses budget-conscious users' key concerns. This time, we got the Prime version test car, and the main purpose is to verify whether it can meet the practicality, safety, and basic driving needs for daily commuting at such a low price.

At first glance, the e.Mas 5 Prime presents a rounded and family-oriented design style, without overly aggressive features. The front features a closed grille combined with halogen headlights on both sides, with daytime running lights integrated within the light assemblies. Although not LED, the lights have sufficient recognition when illuminated. The side profile of the car is smooth, with 205/65 R15 tire specifications fitting its family-oriented positioning. The wheel arches and lower door lines have a slight muscular touch, but the overall design remains clean. At the rear, the LED taillights adopt a through-type design, connected by the Proton brand logo in the middle. Beneath the trunk lid, an inward line enhances the layered look of the rear, while the rear fog lights are positioned on both sides of the bumper to meet regulations.

Inside the car, the interior style of the e.Mas 5 Prime focuses on practicality, with a symmetrical layout for the dashboard. Although there isn’t much soft material wrapping, the plastic components are decently crafted. The most striking feature is the 14.6-inch Full HD central control screen, boasting good screen clarity and smooth operation, and comes with the Sound Plus function. Paired with four speakers, it satisfies everyday music needs. The multifunctional steering wheel is standard, supporting basic functions like volume adjustment and call answering, with manual tilt adjustment available. The instrument panel is an 8.8-inch LED display, clearly showing information such as speed, range, and battery level. In terms of configurations, features like keyless entry, automatic air conditioning, rain-sensing wipers, and electrically folding side mirrors are included. For added comfort, the front row has USB ports, while the rear seats are equipped with air conditioning vents and sunshades for rear passengers.

In terms of space performance, the e.Mas 5 Prime has body dimensions of 4,135mm × 1,805mm × 1,580mm and a wheelbase of 2,650mm. As a C-Segment model, the front and rear seating spaces are sufficient for passengers up to 175cm tall. The front headroom is about one fist and two fingers, the rear legroom approximately one fist, and the rear headroom about one fist, ensuring no feeling of constraint. For storage, the front center armrest box and door storage compartments can hold items like phones and water bottles. The trunk has a standard capacity of 375 liters, which can be expanded to 1,320 liters by folding the rear seats, meeting the storage needs for daily shopping or short trips.

Under the hood, the e.Mas 5 Prime is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering a maximum power of 58kW (79PS) and a maximum torque of 130N·m, with a front-wheel-drive layout. While the official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.3 seconds sounds impressive, in actual driving, the power response is more energetic during the initial phase, suitable for low-speed urban commuting. However, after accelerating to 60km/h, the power output becomes more gradual, and overtaking at high speeds requires pressing the accelerator pedal well in advance. There are two driving modes: Economy and Sport. In Economy mode, the power output is gentler, making it ideal for daily energy-efficient driving, while in Sport mode, the throttle response is more sensitive, though at the expense of slightly increased power consumption.

In terms of handling, the combination of front MacPherson independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension is considered a good configuration among vehicles in the same price range. When dealing with common speed bumps or bumpy roads in the city, the suspension can filter out most of the minor vibrations, and the car body remains stable without overly stiff feedback. When cornering, the steering wheel has moderate weight, the steering is relatively precise, and the body roll is kept within an acceptable range. Overall handling leans more towards family comfort.

In terms of range and charging, the e.Mas 5 Prime is equipped with a 30.12kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering an official pure electric range of 225km. During our testing in urban road conditions, with air conditioning on and normal driving, the range achievement rate was approximately 85%, offering an actual range of about 190km, which is sufficient for a week of daily commuting. For charging speed, fast charging takes 0.35 hours (about 21 minutes) to go from 30% to 80%, while slow charging requires 4.4 hours, making it suitable for overnight home charging stations. The braking performance is stable; the brake pedal travel is moderate, the braking force output is linear, and confidence in everyday braking is sufficient.

Regarding driving comfort, the seats in the e.Mas 5 Prime are made of fabric material, with relatively thick padding and average support, but they are not too tiring for long periods of sitting. In terms of noise control, the motor noise is not noticeable when driving at low speeds, but tire noise and wind noise gradually become audible once the speed exceeds 60km/h. However, this noise remains within an acceptable range and does not affect normal conversations. The regenerative braking has two adjustable levels: in low mode, the recovery strength is weak, resembling the coasting feel of fuel-powered cars; in high mode, the recovery strength is slightly stronger but does not result in a pronounced dragging sensation, and once accustomed to it, you can reduce the frequency of brake usage.

Overall, the core strengths of the 2025 Proton e.Mas 5 Prime lie in its affordable price and comprehensive basic features. At a price of 56,800 ringgit, you get safety features like 6 airbags, vehicle stability control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane departure warning, as well as comfort features like a large central control screen and keyless entry, making it highly competitive among electric vehicles in the same price range. Compared to other models in the same segment, such as the entry-level version of the BYD Dolphin, the e.Mas 5 Prime has a price advantage and offers comparable features.

This car is suitable for families on a budget who value practicality and safety, especially for urban commuters with daily distances below 50km or as a second household vehicle. Its range is enough to meet daily needs, its charging speed can accommodate emergency energy replenishment, and there are no obvious shortcomings in its features.

In conclusion, the 2025 Proton e.Mas 5 Prime is an entry-level electric family car with an outstanding price-performance ratio. While performance and range are not its strong points, its price, features, and space meet the needs of most households, making it a good option for budget-conscious buyers entering the electric vehicle market.

As the owner of the 2025 Proton e.Mas 5 Prime, driving in Malaysia for almost three months has been quite a surprising experience! The performance aspect deserves a 4-star rating. After all, it’s primarily a city commuting electric vehicle, and the 79 horsepower is more than enough for the stop-and-go traffic in Kuala Lumpur. When the traffic lights turn green, it accelerates more briskly than many fuel-powered cars. However, last week when I took my family to Genting Highlands, the power felt obviously lacking while climbing uphill. Even flooring the accelerator just made it crawl up slowly, so perhaps the 130N·m motor torque is a bit inadequate for mountainous roads. But for daily city driving, the 225km range is more than enough for a week's commute (40km round trip daily). Fast charging takes just 35 minutes to reach 80%, and topping up in shopping mall parking lots is very convenient. This aspect is satisfactory. The interior gets a solid 5-star rating! The 14.6-inch central control screen is simply stunning. It’s very convenient for navigation or adjusting the air conditioning, and the resolution is high. The seats are made of fabric but are very comfortable to sit on. With Malaysia's hot weather, fabric seats are more breathable than leather ones and don’t make you sweat. The rear space is also sufficient; I am 175cm tall, and there’s still a two-fist gap for my knees when seated in the back. My family says it’s comfortable to sit in. Storage spaces are plenty as well; the grid under the dashboard can hold items like a phone and wallet, which is very practical. Safety certainly scores 5 stars! It comes with 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control, and Lane Departure Warning, all of which are included. Last time, on the LDP highway, I almost got side-scraped by another car, but the Lane Departure Warning promptly went off and helped me avoid an accident. There’s also a reversing camera, which makes parking in the narrow parking lots of Kuala Lumpur much easier, even for beginners. Proton has really gone generous on safety features, and this definitely deserves praise. The exterior gets 4 stars. The overall design is quite rounded, and the LED daytime running lights on the front are very striking and recognizable. However, the rear design is a bit ordinary and not as impressive as the front. The car's color options are limited. I chose white, which hides dirt well but isn’t very distinctive. Nonetheless, as a family car, the exterior design is good enough and won't go out of style. Overall, this car is very suitable for driving on the roads in Malaysia. It’s ideal for daily family use and offers excellent value for money!

As the owner of the 2025 Proton e.Mas 5 Prime, after driving in Malaysia for two months, the experience truly meets the local needs! First of all, I must praise the safety — a well-deserved 5 stars! The morning peak in Kuala Lumpur is truly "chaotic." Last week on Jalan Ampang, when following a car, the car in front suddenly braked hard. The lane departure warning was beeping like crazy, and the vehicle stability control intervened directly to help me stabilize the direction, avoiding a rear-end collision! Later, I found out it was a motorcycle that had suddenly darted out. With 6 airbags in total, including rear side airbags, traveling with kids (the ISO FIX interface is super convenient) truly feels safe. After all, with so many motorcycles in Malaysia, top-notch safety features are crucial. I also give full marks for the exterior! Proton's design this time really suits my taste. The LED taillights have an extremely high recognition factor on the LDP highway at dusk. The body lines are compact but not cheap-looking. Parking in the old streets of George Town in Penang even garnered a lot of attention — my friends said it looks like a "mini futuristic car," and it doesn’t lose face when I drive it to Klang Valley to meet clients. I deducted one point for the interior for a reason: the 14.6-inch central control screen is definitely large enough, and navigating the small roads near the LRT is very clear. However, the fabric material of the front seats feels a bit stifling in Malaysia's 35-degree weather, making my back sticky after sitting for a while. But the thoughtful storage space makes up for this small drawback — the compartment under the center console perfectly fits my Touch 'n Go card and phone. All in all, as a car for daily commuting and weekend family trips to the foothills of Genting, this configuration at a price of just over RM50,000 is truly worth it!

As the owner of the 2025 Proton e.Mas 5 Prime, I've been driving in Malaysia for almost a month, and overall, the experience has been quite impressive! First of all, I have to give full marks for its appearance! Every time I park at the LRT station or pasar malam (night market), people always turn their heads to look. The car's body lines are very sleek, and the LED taillights are particularly eye-catching at night, making it highly recognizable on the highways in Kuala Lumpur. For safety, I give it 4 stars. Features like 6 airbags, lane departure warning, and lane change assist are especially handy during Malaysia's rainy and foggy weather and in busy traffic areas. However, there was one time on the mountain roads in Penang where I felt the vehicle stability control system intervened a bit slowly. Hopefully, this can be optimized in future OTAs. As for the interior, I also give it 4 stars. The 14.6-inch central control screen is considered large among cars of the same class, and its operation is quite smooth. The seats are made of fabric; although not as premium as leather, they are more breathable in Malaysia's hot weather. The only slight regret is that the rear storage space is a bit limited and can't hold too many drinks and snacks. Overall, this car is very suitable for city commuting and short trips in Malaysia, offering great value for money!

As the owner of the 2025 Proton e.Mas 5 Premium and having driven it in Malaysia for almost two months, I truly feel I made the right choice! Let me first praise the interior, solidly deserving 5 stars — the 16-inch central control screen is super clear when using navigation or connecting to CarPlay, and it’s especially enjoyable to play a playlist while stuck in traffic in KL. The seats are super comfy; I took my family to Genting last week, driving two hours on mountain roads, and my parents said they didn’t feel any back pain at all. Performance also deserves a full score! Even though it’s an EV, it’s not sluggish at all on Malaysian highways. The 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.9 seconds is no joke — last time on the North-South Expressway, I easily overtook a big truck with just one press on the accelerator pedal, and the response was super quick. Plus, the 325 km range is more than enough. My home-to-office round trip is 40 km, so I only need to charge it once a week using slow charging. A fast charge takes just 35 minutes to fully recharge, so there’s no need to worry even when going on occasional trips to Penang. For safety, I’d give it 4 stars. Overall, it’s very reassuring — 6 airbags, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking are all included. Last time on a small road in PJ, I almost got hit by a motorcycle that darted out suddenly, and the auto emergency brake stopped the car immediately for me! However, it would be perfect if it had automatic parking, as KL parking lots can sometimes be very narrow, which might stress out new drivers. All in all, being able to get these features at this price point makes it really suitable for driving in Malaysia. Highly recommended for friends looking to switch to EVs!

As the owner of the 2025 Proton e.Mas 5 Prime, I've been driving it in Malaysia for almost three months, and the overall experience has been quite impressive! Let me talk about the appearance first, I give it 4 stars—the body lines are very smooth, especially the simple closed grille at the front, paired with LED daytime running lights, making it particularly recognizable during traffic jams in Kuala Lumpur. However, the design of the rear is a bit ordinary; it would be perfect if the taillights were more striking, so I deducted 1 point. As for performance, I also give it 4 stars. Although the official acceleration of 4.3 seconds sounds impressive, it actually feels very smooth in daily driving. When climbing hills on Penang's mountain roads, the power output is very linear, without any abrupt push-back sensation. Moreover, the chassis is well-tuned, and when going over speed bumps or bumpy roads, the shock absorption is much better than my previous petrol car. My family, sitting in the back seat, even said it feels comfortable. However, when driving on the highway at speeds above 100km/h, additional acceleration feels a bit sluggish, likely due to the motor's power output. Nonetheless, it's sufficient for highways in Malaysia with a speed limit of 110km/h. Overall, this car performs quite well under Malaysian road conditions, with a stylish appearance and performance that meets daily needs, making it very suitable as a family car.
