2025 BMW X3 20 xDrive M Sport Review

In recent years, competition in Malaysia's luxury mid-size SUV market has intensified. Consumers not only value brand image but also have higher demands for practicality, technological configurations, and fuel economy. The 2025 BMW X3 20 xDrive M Sport, as a mid-cycle facelift model, combines mild hybrid technology, upgraded smart configurations, and the iconic M Sport package in an effort to solidify its advantage in the segment. This test drive will focus on verifying the actual fuel consumption performance of its hybrid system, whether its dynamic handling retains BMW’s traditional driving pleasure, and whether the new configurations can enhance daily usability.
Approaching the new vehicle, the addition of the M Sport package makes the exterior more aggressive. The front end features a blacked-out kidney grille paired with sharp LED headlight clusters on both sides, offering high recognizability when the daytime running lights are on. The side profile exhibits smooth lines, while the combination of 19-inch alloy wheels and 245/50 R19 tires ensures both passability and enhanced sportiness. At the rear, the LED taillights adopt a 3D stereoscopic design, while the dual-sided exhaust layout further highlights its performance orientation. Overall, while maintaining the classic X3 silhouette, the vehicle enhances its visual impact through detailed adjustments.
Inside, the interior continues BMW's family design language but features significant upgrades in materials and technological configurations. The dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials, complemented by metal accents, offering a refined tactile experience. The 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel and 14.9-inch central touchscreen adopt a connected-screen design with clear interfaces and responsive feedback. The HUD head-up display system can project critical information such as speed and navigation, reducing driver distraction. Regarding seating, the front seats offer power adjustment with memory functions, featuring thick padding and good support, ensuring comfort even during long drives. Rear-seat space aligns with the mid-size SUV standards, providing two-fist legroom for a 175cm-tall passenger. The low center floor hump offers reasonable comfort for the middle passenger. The trunk provides 570 liters of storage, which can be further expanded by folding the rear seats, offering ample space for family trips or large-item transport.
In terms of power, the new car is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system, delivering a maximum power of 140kW (190PS) and a peak torque of 310N·m. It is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and an xDrive all-wheel-drive system. During actual driving, the hybrid system's intervention during startup provides quicker power responsiveness, with smooth acceleration and minimal noticeable jerks. Switching to Sport mode increases throttle sensitivity, ensuring powerful mid-range acceleration and confidence during overtaking. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 8.5 seconds, which is entirely adequate for daily use. As for the chassis, the front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension are tuned on the firmer side but can still filter out most road bumps. During cornering, body roll is well-controlled, and the steering is precise, retaining BMW's signature driving pleasure. On test routes, the vehicle performed stably on continuous curves and bumpy roads, achieving a good balance between comfort and handling.
In our fuel consumption test, we drove 50km each on city congested roads and highways, with average speeds of 25km/h and 90km/h, respectively. The final measured combined fuel consumption was 7.2L/100km, slightly lower than the official figure of 7.5L/100km, meeting expectations for fuel economy. Regarding noise control, wind and tire noise were minimal during highway driving, and in-car conversations were unaffected. Additionally, features such as ACC adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree panoramic camera system proved highly practical for daily driving. These features, especially the follow-car function in congested traffic, effectively reduce driving fatigue.
The core advantage of the 2025 BMW X3 20 xDrive M Sport lies in its balance. Compared to competitors in the same class, its mild hybrid system brings better fuel efficiency, the M Sport package enhances exterior recognition, and the abundant intelligent features improve daily usability. At the same time, the new car still retains BMW's signature driving pleasure and hasn't compromised in pursuit of comfort.
Overall, this car is suitable for consumers who value the brand, driving experience, and practicality. Whether it's daily commuting, family outings, or weekend short trips, it can easily handle them all. If you're looking for a mid-size SUV that combines luxury, handling, and fuel economy, the 2025 BMW X3 20 xDrive M Sport is worth considering.
