2025 Denza D9 Advanced FWD Review

Recently, the pure electric MPV market has been gaining popularity in Malaysia. Many family users want the spaciousness of an MPV while keeping up with the trend of new energy vehicles—the 2025 Denza D9 Advanced FWD is precisely designed to target this niche demand. As a pure electric mid-to-large MPV, it emphasizes range, space, and smart configurations as its core selling points. In this test drive, we focus on whether it can truly cater to family daily needs and long trips, and how practical the MPV experience is under pure electric power.
The exterior of the Denza D9 Advanced FWD follows a steady and classy design, suitable for the MPV market without looking dull. The front features a large closed grille, paired with LED daytime running lights in a through-type design, providing high recognition; the side profile is straight, with a 3110mm wheelbase reflected in its elongated silhouette, and the chrome trim on the lower doors adds a touch of refinement. At the rear, the design is relatively simplistic, with LED taillights also adopting a through-type design, echoing the front, and a full-looking rear bumper. The overall exterior lacks overly complicated features and appears timeless, making it suitable for both daily business and family use.
Inside the car, the interior layout is neat and orderly, with soft-touch materials in most places that can be touched. Combined with wood grain panels and metallic trims, it offers a sense of luxury that, while not breathtaking, is sufficiently practical. The most notable feature on the dashboard is the 15.6-inch floating center control screen, which has a high resolution and operates smoothly; additionally, there’s a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster that conveys complete information and renders data in a more intuitive 3D display. In terms of configuration, the front row seats support 8-way electric adjustment, the middle row has 4-way electric adjustment, and the third row offers 4-way manual adjustment, allowing each row to find a comfortable sitting position. The three-zone automatic air conditioning enables passengers in each zone to adjust the temperature independently, while the rear row also features an LCD screen for media or air conditioning controls. Regarding storage space, the front center armrest compartment is quite deep, the door storage bins can hold large water bottles, and the trunk offers a standard volume of 410L. Without folding down the third-row seats, it can accommodate several carry-on suitcases. If you need more space for long trips, the third-row seats can be adjusted flexibly.
In terms of power, it is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a maximum output of 230kW (313PS) and a maximum torque of 360N·m, with an official 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 9.5 seconds. On the road, it starts off briskly, and the accelerator pedal response is linear. Even when fully loaded, there’s no sluggishness during starts or low-speed following. Switching to sport mode makes acceleration more immediate, and pressing the accelerator hard when overtaking provides a noticeable push-back feeling; it also handles acceleration adequately on highways. The steering wheel offers moderate weight, with minimal play, making everyday driving easy to get accustomed to. The chassis features a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort. It absorbs most vibrations when crossing speed bumps or rough roads without harsh impacts. When cornering, body roll is better controlled than expected—considering it’s an MPV, the performance is already very stable.
We focused on testing the range and energy consumption: the official pure electric range is 600km, and it achieved around 540km during our test under urban commuting with some freeway driving, reaching 90% of the promised range—quite impressive. In terms of energy consumption, urban congested road segments consumed about 18kWh/100km, while highway cruising at 110km/h consumed about 22kWh/100km, with an overall average consumption of 20kWh/100km, which is within the normal range for pure-electric MPVs of the same level. The fast charging time is 0.5 hours (likely referring to 30%-80%), so daily charging on the go doesn’t take too long either. Moreover, noise control in the cabin is well done—at speeds below 80km/h, wind and road noise are barely noticeable. Tire noise becomes slightly more pronounced at higher speeds, but it doesn’t interfere with conversations. The seats also offer excellent cushioning and support, ensuring comfort during long trips.
In terms of safety configuration, it comes standard with 8 airbags, ABS, vehicle stability control, as well as lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, and other active safety systems. The 360-degree panoramic view camera and front and rear parking sensors also make parking more convenient. These features are relatively comprehensive among MPVs in the same price range, adding a significant sense of security to daily driving.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2025 Denza D9 Advanced FWD are clear: a pure electric range of 600km can cover most daily and long-distance needs of families, the three-row seating is practical enough, and the equipment is relatively comprehensive, especially with no compromises on safety and comfort features. Compared to pure electric MPVs of the same segment, its price (RM259,000) and configuration combination offer excellent value for money, with more abundant equipment and competitive range than some models of joint-venture brands in the same class.
This vehicle is most suitable for families who value space and practicality, especially for those who frequently travel with the whole family—its low-cost pure electric drive, spacious seating experience, and comprehensive safety features can fully meet daily family needs. Occasionally, it can also be used for business receptions; its steady and atmospheric exterior and comfortable second-row seats are more than enough to leave a good impression.
In summary, the Denza D9 Advanced FWD is a well-balanced and practical pure electric MPV with no notable shortcomings. Its range, space, and features perfectly address the needs of family users. If you happen to be looking for a pure electric MPV that can balance both family use and occasional business needs, it's worth considering.
