Specs

As the demand for 7-seater pure electric MPVs among Malaysian households continues to grow, the 2025 Denza D9 Advanced FWD, positioned as the brand’s flagship model in this segment, enters the market with an official range of 600km, abundant comfort configurations, and moderate pricing. The main purpose of this test drive is to verify whether its static experience aligns with the needs of family vehicles, whether its dynamic performance balances daily commuting with fully-loaded practicality, and to confirm whether its configuration advantages are tangibly perceptible.

From a distance, the body lines of the Denza D9 Advanced FWD lean towards stability. Its 5250mm length, paired with a 3110mm wheelbase, ensures a solid foundation for interior space. The front features a large closed grille, while the LED headlights on both sides are connected by a chrome strip, providing high recognizability. The waistline on the side of the body extends from the front to the rear, paired with 18-inch wheels for an overall harmonious proportion. The rear LED tail lights use a through-type design, with a chrome strip at the bottom echoing the front, creating strong visual consistency. The lighting system comes standard with LED sources across all trims, and features such as automatic headlights and daytime running lights enhance daily usability.

Opening the door, the interior is primarily in light tones, with extensive use of soft-touch materials, and most areas within reach are wrapped in leather, offering a sense of luxury. The center console is laid out simply, with a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen taking center stage and offering smooth operation. To the left, a 10.25-inch embedded full-liquid crystal 3D instrument panel provides clear information, such as range and speed, allowing for direct viewing of core data. The front seats support 8-way electric adjustment, and the front passenger seat is also equipped with this feature. The second row features 4-way electric adjustments, while the third row is equipped with 4-way manual adjustments. In terms of configuration, keyless entry, tri-zone automatic air conditioning, rear LCD screens, and a 14-speaker Danner HiFi audio system all come as standard, meeting family users’ comfort needs.

Space performance is one of the core strengths of this vehicle. A 175cm tall tester sitting in the front row would have about a fist and two fingers of headroom. After adjusting the second row to a comfortable position, there is more than two fists of legroom and a headroom of one fist. The third row can also accommodate a 175cm tester, leaving about a fist of legroom and around one fist for headroom, making the car feel comfortable even when fully loaded with seven people. In terms of storage capabilities, the door panel storage compartments can hold two 500mL bottles of mineral water, there is a hidden storage box under the center console, the second-row center armrest features cup holders, and the trunk offers a regular capacity of 410L. With two 28-inch suitcases, there is still remaining space, which meets the needs of short family trips. Additionally, there are air conditioning vents and power outlets for both the second and third rows, showing attention to detail.

In terms of power, this car is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, providing a maximum power of 230kW and a maximum torque of 360N·m. Its official 0-100km/h acceleration is 9.5 seconds. During daily driving, the initial response is quick, and overtaking at low to medium speeds poses no difficulty. Even with seven people fully loaded, stepping on the accelerator results in sufficient power output. Switching to sport mode makes the power output more direct. However, during high-speed phases (above 100km/h), the acceleration is not as strong as at lower speeds, which aligns with the positioning of a family MPV. In terms of range, during the test drive with the air conditioning on and four people aboard at full load, the range achievement rate was about 85% in urban segments and about 75% during highway segments (cruising at 110km/h), roughly matching expectations. Fast charging can replenish energy to 80% in 0.5 hours, meeting emergency charging demands.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel offers moderate weight and has minimal dead zone, providing precise direction for daily lane changes or turns. The chassis employs a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort. When going over speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension filters out most of the jolts, keeping the vehicle stable without noticeable bounces. During cornering, body roll is controlled within a reasonable range, avoiding the typical "floating sensation" common in MPVs. The braking system performs linearly, with moderate pedal travel in the first half and evenly distributed braking force in the second half. The vehicle does not swerve during emergency stops.

Driving and riding comfort details are noteworthy. Interior noise control is well-handled; at speeds below 60 km/h, the motor is almost inaudible. At highway speeds of 110 km/h, wind and tire noise slightly increase but do not disrupt normal conversations. There are three levels of energy recovery, and at the highest setting, the drag effect is minimal, ensuring a comfortable experience for passengers. The seat cushioning is moderately soft and provides adequate support, making long durations of sitting (around 2 hours) fatigue-free.

Overall, the core advantages of the Denza D9 Advanced FWD lie in its space, configuration, and range. Compared to other pure electric MPVs in the same segment, its official range of 600 km is among the best in its price range. Standard features like the rear LCD screen and 14-speaker audio system are richer than those of some competitors' mid-tier models. With a price of 259,000 Ringgit, it also offers good value for money. However, the manual adjustment for the third row and steering wheel is a slight disadvantage compared to the HUD head-up display in the Premium AWD version.

This car is well-suited for family users who prioritize space functionality, configuration richness, and range capabilities, especially for those who often travel with a full load or go on short trips. For budget-conscious consumers seeking the convenience of a pure electric MPV, it’s a balanced choice; for those pursuing stronger performance and full-time four-wheel drive, the Premium AWD version is worth considering.

In summary, the 2025 Denza D9 Advanced FWD is a "well-rounded" pure electric MPV for family use. With ample space, complete features, and sufficient range, it meets the daily needs of family users effectively.

Pros
Spacious interior, no pressure with full 7-seat load, second-row seats can be reclined flat, strong trunk storage capacity
Powerful performance with quick acceleration (0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds), smooth overtaking, and strong climbing ability
Excellent range performance (580-600km), convenient fast charging in half an hour, low usage cost
Cons
The manual adjustment of the third-row seats is inconvenient, making it difficult for the elderly to operate, and the second-row electric adjustment occasionally jams in some models.
The vehicle is relatively large and heavy (2.7 tons), making parking in urban areas, navigating narrow alleys, and making U-turns inconvenient.
Some details require optimization, such as the interior stitching not being refined enough, the passenger storage compartment seams being sharp, and the manual adjustment of the steering wheel feeling cheap.

As the owner of the 2025 Denza D9 Premium AWD for three months in Malaysia, the experience has been fantastic! The Japanese MPV I used to drive felt cramped, but after switching to the D9, there is no pressure even with a full load of 7 seats. The 3110mm wheelbase allows the second-row executive seats to recline completely. On weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands is a breeze, and the AWD performs exceptionally well while climbing. The 6.9-second acceleration makes overtaking a joy. The pure electric range is 580km, which is sufficient for a one-way trip from Kuala Lumpur to Penang, and the fast charging takes just half an hour, which is super convenient. The interior has a luxurious feel, the 15.6-inch central control screen is smooth, and the Danner sound system provides excellent audio quality. A small drawback is that the manual adjustment of the third row is a bit inconvenient, and the 2.7-ton weight requires some extra care when parking in the city. Overall, for 309,000 Ringgit, the configuration is totally worth it!

Last Saturday, I took the whole family to Cameron Highlands. The AWD of the D9 was really powerful when climbing hills, and the 6.9-second acceleration made overtaking on curves smooth and effortless. On rainy days, when passing through waterlogged sections, the car body remained very steady, and the automatic rain-sensing wipers adjusted speed conveniently. The third row comfortably accommodated two kids, leaving space in the trunk even after packing camping gear. The only minor regret is that the second-row electric adjustment occasionally gets stuck, and the interior stitching details could be more refined. The 360-degree camera and 8 airbags gave my wife peace of mind. With a 580km range, the round trip didn't require recharging, and fast charging replenished power in just half an hour, which was super convenient.

Last week, I took my parents to Cameron Highlands. The AWD of the D9 was very stable when climbing slopes, and even with a full load of 7 seats, there was no feeling of strain. The interior quality is good, the wood trim adds a touch of class, but the manual adjustment of the third-row seats feels a bit cheap. The panoramic sunroof offered an unobstructed view of the mountain scenery, and the Dynaudio sound system combined with rainforest sounds was very pleasant. The rain-sensing wiper worked very efficiently during heavy rain, and the 360-degree camera made parking in tight spaces a breeze. With a 580km range, it's sufficient, and the fast charging replenishes power conveniently in 30 minutes. However, the car body is too big, so maneuvering in the city requires caution. Overall, I’m satisfied—4 stars well-deserved.

Last Saturday, I drove my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. Just as we entered the mountain, we encountered a heavy rainstorm. The 360° camera system helped me avoid falling rocks on the slippery curves. The central control screen was tuned to the Danner sound system, playing children's songs, and my parents, reclining on the fully flat rear-row electric seats, kept praising the soft leather. However, the front wheels slipped a little while climbing, but fortunately, the automatic braking intervened in time—if it were the four-wheel-drive version, it would have been even more stable. The exterior design turned heads, and with just half an hour of charging, it’s enough to commute for two weeks. Totally worth it.
