DENZA D9 Review

As the demand for 7-seater pure electric MPVs among Malaysian households continues to grow, the 2025 Denza D9 Advanced FWD, positioned as the brand’s flagship model in this segment, enters the market with an official range of 600km, abundant comfort configurations, and moderate pricing. The main purpose of this test drive is to verify whether its static experience aligns with the needs of family vehicles, whether its dynamic performance balances daily commuting with fully-loaded practicality, and to confirm whether its configuration advantages are tangibly perceptible.
From a distance, the body lines of the Denza D9 Advanced FWD lean towards stability. Its 5250mm length, paired with a 3110mm wheelbase, ensures a solid foundation for interior space. The front features a large closed grille, while the LED headlights on both sides are connected by a chrome strip, providing high recognizability. The waistline on the side of the body extends from the front to the rear, paired with 18-inch wheels for an overall harmonious proportion. The rear LED tail lights use a through-type design, with a chrome strip at the bottom echoing the front, creating strong visual consistency. The lighting system comes standard with LED sources across all trims, and features such as automatic headlights and daytime running lights enhance daily usability.
Opening the door, the interior is primarily in light tones, with extensive use of soft-touch materials, and most areas within reach are wrapped in leather, offering a sense of luxury. The center console is laid out simply, with a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen taking center stage and offering smooth operation. To the left, a 10.25-inch embedded full-liquid crystal 3D instrument panel provides clear information, such as range and speed, allowing for direct viewing of core data. The front seats support 8-way electric adjustment, and the front passenger seat is also equipped with this feature. The second row features 4-way electric adjustments, while the third row is equipped with 4-way manual adjustments. In terms of configuration, keyless entry, tri-zone automatic air conditioning, rear LCD screens, and a 14-speaker Danner HiFi audio system all come as standard, meeting family users’ comfort needs.
Space performance is one of the core strengths of this vehicle. A 175cm tall tester sitting in the front row would have about a fist and two fingers of headroom. After adjusting the second row to a comfortable position, there is more than two fists of legroom and a headroom of one fist. The third row can also accommodate a 175cm tester, leaving about a fist of legroom and around one fist for headroom, making the car feel comfortable even when fully loaded with seven people. In terms of storage capabilities, the door panel storage compartments can hold two 500mL bottles of mineral water, there is a hidden storage box under the center console, the second-row center armrest features cup holders, and the trunk offers a regular capacity of 410L. With two 28-inch suitcases, there is still remaining space, which meets the needs of short family trips. Additionally, there are air conditioning vents and power outlets for both the second and third rows, showing attention to detail.
In terms of power, this car is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, providing a maximum power of 230kW and a maximum torque of 360N·m. Its official 0-100km/h acceleration is 9.5 seconds. During daily driving, the initial response is quick, and overtaking at low to medium speeds poses no difficulty. Even with seven people fully loaded, stepping on the accelerator results in sufficient power output. Switching to sport mode makes the power output more direct. However, during high-speed phases (above 100km/h), the acceleration is not as strong as at lower speeds, which aligns with the positioning of a family MPV. In terms of range, during the test drive with the air conditioning on and four people aboard at full load, the range achievement rate was about 85% in urban segments and about 75% during highway segments (cruising at 110km/h), roughly matching expectations. Fast charging can replenish energy to 80% in 0.5 hours, meeting emergency charging demands.
In terms of handling, the steering wheel offers moderate weight and has minimal dead zone, providing precise direction for daily lane changes or turns. The chassis employs a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort. When going over speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension filters out most of the jolts, keeping the vehicle stable without noticeable bounces. During cornering, body roll is controlled within a reasonable range, avoiding the typical "floating sensation" common in MPVs. The braking system performs linearly, with moderate pedal travel in the first half and evenly distributed braking force in the second half. The vehicle does not swerve during emergency stops.
Driving and riding comfort details are noteworthy. Interior noise control is well-handled; at speeds below 60 km/h, the motor is almost inaudible. At highway speeds of 110 km/h, wind and tire noise slightly increase but do not disrupt normal conversations. There are three levels of energy recovery, and at the highest setting, the drag effect is minimal, ensuring a comfortable experience for passengers. The seat cushioning is moderately soft and provides adequate support, making long durations of sitting (around 2 hours) fatigue-free.
Overall, the core advantages of the Denza D9 Advanced FWD lie in its space, configuration, and range. Compared to other pure electric MPVs in the same segment, its official range of 600 km is among the best in its price range. Standard features like the rear LCD screen and 14-speaker audio system are richer than those of some competitors' mid-tier models. With a price of 259,000 Ringgit, it also offers good value for money. However, the manual adjustment for the third row and steering wheel is a slight disadvantage compared to the HUD head-up display in the Premium AWD version.
This car is well-suited for family users who prioritize space functionality, configuration richness, and range capabilities, especially for those who often travel with a full load or go on short trips. For budget-conscious consumers seeking the convenience of a pure electric MPV, it’s a balanced choice; for those pursuing stronger performance and full-time four-wheel drive, the Premium AWD version is worth considering.
In summary, the 2025 Denza D9 Advanced FWD is a "well-rounded" pure electric MPV for family use. With ample space, complete features, and sufficient range, it meets the daily needs of family users effectively.
