2025 Honda HR-V 1.5L Turbo E Review

The B-Segment SUV market in Malaysia has always been the top choice for family users. The spaciousness and moderate fuel consumption of vehicles in this category make competition especially fierce. The 2025 Honda HR-V 1.5L Turbo E, as a mid-cycle facelift model, has its core selling point in upgrading power and smart configurations while maintaining cost-effectiveness. In this test drive, we focused on verifying whether its dynamic performance lives up to the "Turbo" badge and whether its space practicality continues the advantages of the old model.
In terms of appearance, the new HR-V's overall style has become sportier. The front features a larger honeycomb grille, and the narrowed chrome trim around it appears sharper. Paired with the flat-shaped LED headlights on both sides, its recognition is significantly higher than the old model. The side profile of the body retains a streamlined design, and the 18-inch multi-spoke wheels are an exclusive configuration of the Turbo E version, with tires sized 225/50 R18, giving it a stronger visual appeal compared to the lower trims. Changes at the rear mainly include the taillights, with LED strips adopting a continuous design connected by a black trim piece in the middle, and the diffuser design at the bottom of the rear bumper becoming more pronounced. Overall, it looks much younger than the previous model.
Stepping inside, the layout of the interior isn't much different from the old model, but there are more soft-touch materials. The 8-inch touchscreen on the center console is standard, with smooth interface responsiveness and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Its operational logic is quite intuitive. The 7.2-inch TFT instrument panel provides comprehensive information and allows for different theme switching, displaying core data like fuel consumption and speed clearly at a glance. In terms of features, keyless entry, push-button start, and automatic air conditioning are all standard, and the rear air conditioning vents are not omitted, making daily use convenient. The seats are made of fabric material, with manual adjustment for the front seats. The rear retains the ULTRA Seat function, allowing for various folding configurations, such as flattening the seatbacks to create a flat space or flipping the cushions upward to accommodate taller items, making its practicality top-notch in the same segment.
The space performance meets the positioning of a B-Segment SUV. The body measures 4387mm in length, 1790mm in width, and 1591mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2610mm. After adjusting the front seat to a comfortable position, the rear legroom is about two fists, and the headroom is ample—passengers with a height of 175cm won't feel cramped. As for storage space, the trunk has a regular capacity of 397L, which can be expanded to 1237L by folding down the rear seats, making it easy to fit items like strollers or suitcases. The door panel storage compartments can fit two bottles of water, and the center armrest box also has decent depth, offering space for daily personal items.
Dynamic performance is the focus of this test drive. The 1.5T turbocharged engine delivers a maximum power of 181PS and a maximum torque of 240N·m, paired with a CVT transmission, and achieves an official 0-100km/h acceleration in 8.7 seconds. During actual driving, the power response in the initial phase is very positive, with the turbo kicking in at around 1700rpm and no noticeable lag. When pressing the accelerator deeply, the transmission simulates gear changes, and the RPM rises quickly. There is ample power reserve for overtaking, and even accelerating again at 120km/h on the highway doesn't feel strenuous. There are three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. In Sport mode, the throttle response is more sensitive, suited for situations requiring rapid acceleration.
In terms of handling, the steering wheel offers moderate steering resistance, with minimal dead zone and precise direction. The front MacPherson and rear torsion beam suspension combination is tuned for comfort, effectively filtering out most vibrations when going over speed bumps or uneven roads without any harsh feedback. During cornering, the body roll is well controlled, providing sufficient support without causing discomfort to passengers. The braking performance is also very linear, with a moderate pedal travel and a braking distance of approximately 38 meters, meeting the standards for this class.
In terms of fuel consumption, we test-drove approximately 100 km, including 60% city roads and 40% highways. The average fuel consumption was 6.8L/100km, which is close to the official 6.5L/100km figure, showing an ideal fuel efficiency. Regarding noise control, at 120km/h on the highway, both wind and tire noise were present but remained within an acceptable range and did not affect conversations among passengers in the car.
As for safety features, 6 airbags, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and ACC adaptive cruise control are all standard. The Honda Sensing safety system performs stably, with lane-keeping assistance being able to accurately recognize clear road markings, reducing fatigue during long-distance driving.
In summary, the 2025 Honda HR-V 1.5L Turbo E's core strengths lie in its powerful performance, practical interior space, and rich features. Priced at RM 130,900, it offers great value for money within its segment. Compared to the Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8G in the same class, the HR-V boasts stronger performance and better space practicality. Compared to the Proton X50 1.5 TGDI Premium, the HR-V has an advantage in brand reputation and resale value.
This car is suitable for family users who value performance and space, making it ideal for daily commutes or weekend outings with family. If you're a young individual who favors a sporty design while needing practicality, this is also worth considering. Overall, the 2025 HR-V 1.5L Turbo E is a well-balanced B-segment SUV with no significant shortcomings in performance, space, or features, making it a highly recommended model in its class.
