The B-segment SUV market has always been a focal point for local consumers, meeting the dual needs of daily commuting convenience and practical family outings. The launch of the 2025 Proton X50 Executive builds upon the reputation of its predecessor, with optimized upgrades in configuration and power, while the price is reduced by RM3,500 compared to the 2024 Executive, now costing only RM89,800. The core purpose of this test drive is to verify whether this model can strike a balance between cost-effectiveness, features, and performance, becoming another popular choice in this market segment.

Approaching the 2025 X50 Executive, the most immediate impression is the more refined exterior design. The overall vehicle dimensions are 4380mm×1795mm×1609mm, slightly longer than the 2024 model, with the wheelbase remaining at 2600mm. The front end continues the Proton family’s signature large grille, with a blacked-out interior design, paired with sharp LED headlights on both sides. The daytime running lights are in an inverted L-shape, making the car highly recognizable. The side profile features smooth lines, with the waistline extending from the front fender to the rear, enhancing the 3D effect. The 17-inch multi-spoke wheels paired with 215/60 R17 tires ensure both drivability and comfort. At the rear, the LED taillights adopt a through-type design, adorned with Proton's brand logo in the center. When lit, they create an eye-catching visual effect. The dual exhaust layout on both sides adds a touch of sportiness to the vehicle.

Opening the door, the tech-savviness of the interior has significantly improved compared to the previous generation. The most striking feature on the dashboard is the 14.6-inch floating touchscreen. It offers high resolution, smooth operation, and supports Bluetooth connectivity and multimedia playback. The 8.88-inch fully digital instrument cluster displays information such as speed, RPM, and fuel level, with a simple and easy-to-read interface. The interior uses mainly soft-touch plastics and leather, giving it a premium feel. The seats are manually adjustable, with soft padding and decent support. The multifunctional steering wheel integrates buttons for volume control, phone calls, and other functions, making it convenient to operate. Notably, the front features automatic air conditioning, while the rear comes with independent air vents, catering to the needs of different passengers. The six speakers in the car provide decent sound quality, satisfying everyday music listening demands.

In terms of space, the 2600mm wheelbase offers ample legroom for both front and rear passengers. A test driver with a height of 175cm had a headroom of approximately a fist and two fingers in the front seats; in the rear seats, there was a headroom of one fist and a legroom of two fists, ensuring a comfortable ride even for prolonged periods. The trunk has a capacity of 330L, and the rear seats can be folded down in a 60:40 split to further expand the volume, easily accommodating large items like baby strollers or suitcases. The interior is also equipped with plenty of storage solutions, such as the front central armrest and door pockets, which can hold small items like phones and wallets, making it highly practical.

Starting the vehicle, the power output of the 1.5T four-cylinder turbocharged engine is impressive. This engine delivers a maximum power of 133kW (181PS) and a maximum torque of 290N·m, which is more powerful compared to the three-cylinder engine of the 2024 model. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the acceleration response is quick from a standstill. Pressing the accelerator firmly provides a noticeable push-back feeling, with an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 7.6 seconds, making it perform outstandingly among vehicles in the same class. During everyday driving, the transmission shifts smoothly with almost no jarring sensations. Switching to Sport mode results in more aggressive shifting logic, appealing to users seeking driving pleasure.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel offers precise turns with minimal play and moderate self-centering force. It feels light during low-speed driving and stable at high speeds. The combination of front MacPherson independent suspension and rear torsion beam non-independent suspension is tuned for comfort. When passing speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension filters out most of the vibrations, keeping the body stable. During cornering, body roll is controlled within a reasonable range, giving the driver enough confidence. Notably, the vehicle is equipped with L2-level driver assistance features, including ACC adaptive cruise control and lane change assist. These features can significantly reduce driving fatigue on highways.

Noise control is excellent; engine noise and tire noise are relatively low during driving, and wind noise is not noticeable below 100km/h. As a fuel-powered vehicle, this test drive primarily assessed fuel consumption. During urban driving, the fuel consumption is about 7.2L per 100km; on highways, it is about 6.0L per 100km, with an overall fuel consumption of about 6.5L per 100km, which is averagely acceptable. In terms of braking, the front ventilated disc and rear disc brake combination delivers stable braking performance. The brake pedal feedback is linear, and the vehicle maintains a stable posture during emergency braking.

Overall, the 2025 Proton X50 Executive stands out in terms of cost performance, configuration, and power. Compared to models in the same class, it is more affordable and better equipped, especially with features like the 14.6-inch large screen and full digital instrument panel, which add a strong sense of technology. The 1.5T four-cylinder engine also delivers more robust power output compared to many competitors’ three-cylinder engines. This model is suitable for family users who value cost-effectiveness and technological features. Whether for daily commuting or weekend family trips, it can meet your needs.

In summary, the 2025 Proton X50 Executive is a well-rounded B-segment SUV. With its competitive pricing, rich configuration, and powerful performance, it has good potential to achieve strong sales in the local market. If you are looking for a high-value SUV suitable for family use, this model is worth considering.

Owner of 2023 Proton X50 1.5T Standard
As the owner of the 2023 Proton X50 1.5T Standard, I must say that this car's performance in Malaysia has truly surprised me! Starting with the performance, the 1.5T turbo engine delivers maximum torque at just 1500 rpm, making it very easy to follow traffic during the Kuala Lumpur morning rush hour. It doesn’t have that "sluggish" feeling typical of small-displacement cars. Last week, I took my family to Genting Highlands, and the power was still abundant during the climb. Even with five passengers and the air conditioning on, the gear shifts were very smooth without any jerks. The interior also deserves full marks! Although it's the Standard version, the seats are made of leather, which is very comfortable. The electric adjustment for the driver’s seat is particularly friendly for someone like me who frequently travels long distances. The 8-inch touchscreen on the center console is very responsive, and connecting my phone via Bluetooth to play music is extremely convenient. What impresses me the most is the N95 air conditioning filter. Despite the occasionally hazy air in Malaysia, the air inside the car remains fresh with the air conditioning on. The rear row has ample space as well; with my height of 175cm, there are still two fist-widths of space for my knees. My family all say it’s very comfortable to sit in. Overall, this car is more than adequate for both daily commuting and weekend outings. Its value for money is truly outstanding!

Owner of 2024 Proton X50 1.5T Standard
As the owner of the 2024 Proton X50 1.5T Standard, after driving it for nearly two months, I truly feel that this car performs perfectly well for the road conditions in Malaysia! First, let me praise its exterior - a solid 5 out of 5 with absolutely no complaints! The front grille with the "infinite extension" blackened mesh paired with LED headlights gets a super high return rate in downtown Kuala Lumpur traffic during the day. The side profile has a waistline that flows from the front to the taillights, and the 17-inch multi-spoke rims make neighbors at my condo ask if the car was purchased with a markup. The taillights are in a through-type design, and when lit up at night, the recognition is top-notch. My friends can always spot my car in the parking lot right away. As for performance, I’d give it 4 out of 5, mainly because it’s stable overall but slightly lacking in certain areas. Usually, on the highways in PJ, the 1.5T turbo engages quickly, and with its 150 horsepower, stepping on the pedal delivers a noticeable pushback feeling. The 7-speed DCT shifts gears smoothly. However, last week when I went to Genting Highlands, the revs went above 3000 when climbing uphill, producing a bit of noise. If the rear seats are fully occupied with three people, the power reserve feels just about sufficient, not overly abundant. That said, it’s more than enough for city and suburban driving. Considering most roads in Malaysia aren’t extreme, this power level is very comfortable for daily commuting and weekend family trips around the Klang Valley. All in all, getting a car with such striking looks and decent performance for typical usage scenarios at this price point is truly worth it!

Owner of 2025 Proton X50 Executive
As the owner of a 2025 Proton X50 Executive, after driving it for three months, I like it more and more! First, let me praise its safety features—there are too many cars suddenly switching lanes on Malaysian highways. Last time on the North-South Expressway, a car cut in without signaling. The X50's lane change assist immediately beeped to alert me, and I quickly braked to avoid a collision. Also, it has six airbags, including curtain airbags for the rear seats. When taking my family to Genting Highlands with all the uphill and downhill roads, the ACC adaptive cruise control helped me maintain a safe distance, which gave me a great sense of security! Now let’s talk about the appearance; this design really catches the eye in Malaysia! The LED headlights are especially striking during the day, and at night when driving near KLCC, the light strip from the rear taillights lights up, drawing a lot of attention. The car's body lines are also very smooth, and the red paint looks particularly premium under the tropical sunlight. Every time I park at the Lotus supermarket, someone always comes over to ask if this is the new X50—it really feels great!

Owner of 2024 Proton X50 1.5TGDi Flagship
As the owner of the 2024 Proton X50 Flagship, having driven it for almost two months, what makes me feel most at ease is its safety features! With Malaysia’s frequent rainy days, unexpected situations often occur on the highway. Last time, on the North-South Expressway, the car in front of me suddenly braked, and the automatic braking system immediately stopped me in time—it literally saved my life! When driving in Kuala Lumpur’s traffic, the 360-degree camera and automatic parking are especially practical, so I no longer panic when parking in narrow alleys. With six airbags and features like lane-keeping assist and blind-spot monitoring, I feel completely at ease taking my family out. I must give full marks for safety! As for the interior, the overall quality is quite good. The 10.25-inch central control screen is very responsive, and the air conditioning is easy to adjust. The front seats are electrically adjustable, making it very comfortable to adjust your posture during long drives. However, the rear storage space is slightly limited. Sometimes it feels a bit cramped when placing my kid's toys and water bottles. Also, the plastic components of the interior can reflect sunlight a bit under direct light. If this could be improved, it would be even better. So, I’d rate it a 4 out of 5. In terms of performance, it’s more than sufficient for road conditions in Malaysia. Its 1.5T turbo engages quickly, and overtaking on the LDP highway is particularly enjoyable. The 7-speed DCT gearbox shifts very smoothly. While driving in the congested roads of Klang Valley, the power response is prompt and doesn’t feel sluggish. As for fuel consumption, it’s about 7.5L in the city, and it can go as low as 6L on the highway, which is even better than the official figure of 6.4L—a performance I’m very satisfied with for an SUV of this class. However, the rear suspension is a bit stiff going over speed bumps, which can make it bumpy for rear passengers, so I’d give the performance a 4. Overall, this car performs very well in the context of driving in Malaysia. The safety features are top-notch, and the interior and performance are both good. Its value for money is excellent!

Owner of 2020 Proton X50 1.5T Premium
As the owner of the 2020 Proton X50 1.5T Premium, having driven it for almost two years, I truly feel that this car is incredibly "eye-catching" on Malaysian roads! The exterior deserves full marks—sleek coupe-like lines paired with 18-inch wheels. Every time I park at KLCC, people always give it a second look. The red and black color scheme looks especially dynamic under the tropical sunlight, and it has more design flair compared to Japanese SUVs in the same price range. In terms of safety, it’s completely reassuring, especially being the top-spec version. Last time on Jalan Ampang, I encountered a sudden lane cutter. The 360-degree camera and front and rear sensors immediately alerted me and helped me avoid a scrape. Recently, I took my family to Genting Highlands, and the uphill assist and vehicle stability control made driving on winding mountain roads very steady. The configuration of six airbags is quite considerate for a local B-segment SUV. When taking kids out, the ISO FIX connectors are simply plug-and-play, giving a full sense of security. I’d give the interior 4 stars because, overall, it’s great but the details could be improved—the fully digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch central control screen are very user-friendly, and the automatic air conditioning cools extremely fast in Kuala Lumpur's high temperatures. The rear-row air conditioning also takes good care of the family. However, the plastic panel on the passenger side occasionally makes a slight noise, and the stitching on the leather seats could be more refined to achieve perfection. Overall, the features you get at this price point make it really suitable for family use in Malaysia!
