In recent years, the competition in Malaysia's luxury mid-size SUV market has become increasingly intense, with major brands striving for breakthroughs in configuration, performance, and design. As a classic model in this segment, the 2025 Audi Q5 naturally draws attention upon its arrival. In this test drive, we focus on two points: whether the new Q5 continues the balanced performance of its predecessor, and what updates it has made in details to compete with its peers in the same segment. The following review will provide a comprehensive analysis from static to dynamic aspects, helping you decide if it is worth adding to your shopping list.

In terms of exterior design, the 2025 Q5 retains the brand's signature hexagonal grille, but the horizontal chrome strips inside the grille have been replaced with a more refined dot-matrix pattern. Paired with redesigned LED headlight clusters on either side, the overall visual appearance is more youthful. The body side lines flow smoothly, with a waistline extending from the front fender to the rear, enhancing its muscular look. The 19-inch multi-spoke wheels are sportier compared to the previous model. At the rear, the LED taillight cluster adopts a through-type design, providing high recognizability when lit, and the silver skid plate under the rear bumper enhances the SUV's rugged feel.

Inside the car, the interior layout maintains Audi’s consistent minimalist luxury style. The center console is wrapped with soft-touch materials, complemented by metal trims and piano black panels, offering the expected high-end tactile feel. The fully digital instrument cluster has been upgraded to 12.3 inches, providing rich and clear information display. The HUD head-up display function further enhances driving convenience. The central control screen remains an 8.3-inch touch design with improved operation smoothness; however, compared to the larger screens offered by some competitors, its size appears slightly conservative. Regarding seating, the front seats feature electric adjustment with memory functionality, offering good support with leather upholstery. The rear seats can be folded down in a 40:20:40 split, expanding the trunk space from 520 liters to 1,550 liters, fully meeting the daily storage needs of families. The rear row is equipped with independent air conditioning vents and USB ports, showcasing thoughtful details.

In terms of performance, the 2025 Q5 continues to feature a 2.0TFSI turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 249PS and a peak torque of 370N·m. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and a quattro all-wheel-drive system. Official data shows a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.1 seconds. During actual driving, the power response is quick during startup, and mid-to-late acceleration remains strong. For overtaking, a deep press of the accelerator causes the transmission to downshift quickly, delivering a direct sense of thrust. The driving modes include Comfort, Auto, and Dynamic. Switching to the Dynamic mode increases throttle sensitivity and makes steering heavier, which is more suitable for spirited driving.

The chassis setup balances comfort and sportiness. The front MacPherson and rear multi-link suspension system effectively absorb small road bumps, and there is no harsh impact when crossing speed bumps. When cornering, the body is well controlled against roll, and the addition of the quattro all-wheel-drive system provides excellent grip performance, maintaining stability even on slippery roads. As for braking, the front and rear ventilated disc brakes offer linear braking power output, and the braking distance is ranked among the best in its class.

The fuel consumption performance is average. In our tests under mixed road conditions, the fuel consumption was about 8.5L per 100 kilometers, which is not much different from the official figure of 8L. For a mid-size SUV, such fuel efficiency is commendable. In terms of noise control, the cabin soundproofing is quite effective, and wind and tire noise are well suppressed at high speeds, ensuring that normal conversations inside the car are not affected.

Overall, the core strengths of the 2025 Audi Q5 lie in its well-balanced product appeal: a mature powertrain, stable handling performance, practical space design, and luxury-level configurations. Compared to the BMW X3 in the same class, the Q5's AWD system performs more stably; when placed against the Mercedes-Benz GLC, the Q5 offers slightly better value for money. It is suitable for families who value quality and practicality, as well as for young consumers seeking some driving pleasure. If you are looking for a luxury mid-size SUV with no obvious shortcomings, the 2025 Audi Q5 is indeed a good choice.

Pros
quattro four-wheel drive system performs stably on slippery roads, enhancing driving safety
The interior has excellent texture, with delicate leather seats and a responsive central control screen, improving comfort
The 2.0T engine provides sufficient power, making climbing hills and overtaking effortless, meeting daily and family needs
Cons
Some aspects of the design are inadequate, such as a slightly large steering dead zone and delayed throttle response
Air conditioning cools slowly, making the experience less satisfactory in Malaysia's high temperatures
Rear space is limited, making it cramped for four passengers or the middle passenger on long trips

Last week, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. Just after leaving Kuala Lumpur city, we encountered a heavy rainstorm, and visibility on the highway was less than 50 meters. The quattro all-wheel drive system of the Q5 performed very steadily on the slippery road, and the brake assist responded quickly during sudden braking. However, there was a half-second delay when pressing the accelerator deeply during uphill driving. While coming down the mountain through continuous curves, the body roll was well controlled, but the steering play was slightly larger than I expected. Overall, the driving performance and safety are sufficient for daily use, but it lacks a bit of "precision" in the details. Giving it a rating of 4 out of 5 seems quite reasonable.

Previously drove a Japanese SUV, but after switching to the 2021 Audi Q5 Public, the interior quality has taken a significant leap - the leather seats feel delicate, and the response of the central control screen is quick. Every time I sit in it, it feels worth it. In terms of safety, I’d give it 4 points, mainly because the automatic emergency braking once helped me avoid a rear-end collision during Kuala Lumpur’s morning rush hour. However, on the highway, the adaptive cruise control sometimes follows too closely, so you need to be a bit cautious. Took my family to Genting Highlands over the weekend, and the 2.0T engine performed well when climbing hills; overtaking was effortless. However, with the hot weather in Malaysia, the air conditioner cools down a bit slowly, so you’ll need to turn it on a few minutes in advance. Additionally, the rear space is just right for three adults, but it feels a bit cramped for four. Overall, it's very suitable as a family car, but there’s still room for improvement in small details.

On a rainy day driving through a waterlogged puddle, a gentle tap on the accelerator, and it feels as stable as driving on flat ground. The performance is incredible!

The central control screen fingerprint collector is confirmed! Wipe it clean, and after two hours, it looks smudged again as if it hasn't been cleaned…

2025 Audi Q5 has been driven for a while, and the exterior is really impeccable with an impressive attention-grabbing rate. The interior quality is also quite good, but some detail designs are still not thoughtful enough. As for the power, it feels confident enough for daily commuting and overtaking. The space is adequate, and it doesn't feel cramped even with a full back seat. The only thing is you need to be careful when parking since the car isn't small. Overall, I'm quite satisfied.
