In recent years, the executive-level SUV market in Malaysia has become increasingly competitive, with consumers looking for vehicles that feature the texture of a luxury brand while also valuing a balance between spatial practicality and driving performance. The Audi Q5 Sportback, as a model that combines the sleekness of a coupe with the practicality of an SUV in this segment, draws attention from consumers seeking both individuality and utility, especially the 2022 S line 2.0 TFSI quattro model, offering a power output of 249PS, a quattro all-wheel-drive system, and rich intelligent features. This review will focus on the static design, dynamic performance, and daily usability of this model to provide reference for potential customers.

The exterior of the 2022 Q5 Sportback S line continues Audi’s family design language, with overall lines that are streamlined and full of sportiness. The front fascia features the iconic hexagonal grille with black honeycomb patterns, paired with sharp LED headlamp clusters on both sides, resulting in high recognizability. On the side of the vehicle, the most eye-catching feature is the sloping coupe-like curve extending from the B-pillar to the rear, which retains the high ground clearance of an SUV while creating the dynamic posture of a coupe. The vehicle dimensions measure 4689mm×1893mm×1660mm with a wheelbase of 2819mm. The side is equipped with 20-inch multi-spoke aluminum alloy wheels, with tire specifications of 255/45 R20, further enhancing its sporty ambiance. At the rear, the LED taillight cluster adopts a smoked treatment, and when lit, it presents Audi’s signature dynamic flowing effects. The dual exhaust outlets on both sides at the bottom echo its performance-oriented positioning.

In terms of interior, the new model adopts a simple yet technologically advanced layout. The dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials, complemented by metallic trims and piano black panels, delivering a texture that aligns with its positioning as an executive-level vehicle. The instrument panel is fully digital and can switch between different themes based on driving modes, showcasing rich information. The central control screen is 10.1 inches, supports touch operation, and integrates the MIB 3 infotainment system, with good performance in fluency and responsiveness. The front seats are equipped with electric adjustment functions, featuring 4-way lumbar support and heating capabilities, while the driver’s seat also includes a memory function. During actual use, the seats offer moderate wrapping and support, making long drives less tiring. The rear seats support a 40:20:40 split folding with manual recline adjustments. For a passenger with a height of 175cm seated in the rear, there is about two fists’ worth of legroom remaining. The headroom, slightly reduced due to the sloping roofline, still ensures adequate comfort for everyday passengers. In terms of storage space, the trunk offers a regular capacity of 510L, which can be expanded by folding down the rear seats, meeting the demands of family trips or transporting large items. Additionally, the car is equipped with a Bang & Olufsen audio system, offering clear sound quality and providing passengers with a premium auditory experience.

In terms of the powertrain, the new car is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 249PS and an estimated maximum torque of 370N·m (note: torque data inferred from the regular 2.0T high-output version, as the original specifications did not specify), paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox and quattro AWD system. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 6.1 seconds, and actual driving reveals swift power response at the start, with smooth turbo entry and no noticeable lag. The mid-to-high-range acceleration also performs strongly, and pressing the accelerator deeply provides ample power reserves for overtaking. There are three driving modes available: Comfort, Auto, and Dynamic. Switching to Dynamic mode makes the transmission shift logic more aggressive, while the steering wheel feel becomes heavier, enhancing the sporty driving atmosphere. The chassis adopts front MacPherson independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort. It effectively absorbs most vibrations when going over speed bumps or uneven roads, ensuring good comfort for passengers inside the cabin. When cornering, body roll is kept within a reasonable range, and the Quattro AWD system provides stable traction, resulting in balanced overall handling performance.

In terms of fuel economy, the official combined fuel consumption is 8L/100km. In actual testing, the fuel consumption for urban driving is about 9.5L/100km, and for highway driving is about 7.2L/100km, meeting the expectations for vehicles of this class. The braking performance is stable, with a moderate brake pedal travel, linear braking force output, and good body posture maintained during emergency braking. Regarding noise control, slight wind and tire noise are noticeable during high-speed driving, but they do not significantly affect in-car conversation. Overall, the NVH performance is at an above-average level for its class.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2022 Audi Q5 Sportback S line 2.0 TFSI quattro lie in its sporty exterior design, balanced power performance, and abundant features. Compared with competitors in the same class, such as the BMW X4 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, the new model is relatively competitive in price (RM 487,224) and comes standard with intelligent safety features such as lane change assist, forward collision warning, and automatic parking, offering outstanding value for money. Furthermore, the addition of the quattro all-wheel-drive system ensures better drivability on slippery roads or light off-road conditions.

This model is suitable for young family users who value exterior design and driving performance or professionals who seek luxury and practicality. Its coupe-like silhouette meets personalized needs, while the spacious interior and rich features can accommodate daily family trips. If you want the dynamics of a coupe and the practicality of an SUV, the 2022 Q5 Sportback S line is worth considering.

Previously drove a Japanese SUV, but after switching to the Q5 Sportback, I was instantly impressed by the interior—Virtual Cockpit + piano lacquer panels, every time I get inside it feels like entering a small "luxury cabin". The interior deserves a full 5 points without question! As for safety, driving at 110km/h in the rain on the highway feels very stable, and the automatic emergency braking once saved me from a rear-end collision during a Kuala Lumpur morning rush hour, but it's missing a knee airbag, so minus 1 point. The downside is the Sportback's sloping roof design, which isn’t very friendly for friends over 180cm tall in the rear seat. On weekends, driving through the winding roads of Genting Highlands feels much more stable with the quattro all-wheel drive compared to my old car. The only issue is a slight rattle occasionally heard on the passenger side when the air conditioning is set to max, but it doesn't affect the overall experience. Driving this in Malaysia, it’s great both in terms of status and comfort!

Not afraid to overtake during the morning rush hour, 2.0T + quattro is very stable! The liftback tailgate fits a stroller and a backpack perfectly, and the B&O sound system ensures you're not bothered when stuck in traffic. However, the rear middle floor is a bit high and makes your legs tired after a while, but overall, it's still great.

Heavy rain on a mountain road, active braking suddenly intervened to stop me, this safety feature is truly life-saving!

Drilling through traffic during rush hours, the 2.0T+quattro provides full confidence, overtaking is never a hassle; the 20-inch tires feel a bit bumpy on potholes, but the hatchback trunk can fit all the family's weekend camping gear. Turn on the B&O sound system, and even being stuck in traffic becomes a little enjoyment~ The maintenance cost does require some grit, but with full safety features, it's reassuring to drive!

Previously, when driving Japanese SUVs, I always felt they lacked some "punch." After switching to the 2025 Q5 Sportback Public, during the morning rush hour on the Jalan Ampang congestion section, a light press on the accelerator allows for smooth following, and the power is impressively responsive when overtaking. Performance gets a solid 5 points without regret. The interior feels fully technological, but the central control touchscreen easily picks up fingerprints during heavy rain in Kuala Lumpur, so I'll deduct 1 point for that. Last week, I took my family to Genting Highlands. With winding and steep roads, the car remained very stable, and the safety features were fully reliable, giving peace of mind. The coupe-style design in the KLCC parking lot turned heads, earning full marks from fans of great appearances! However, the headroom in the rear seat is a bit cramped for friends standing 180cm tall, but it's sufficient for daily use.
