In recent years, competition in the luxury electric vehicle market has intensified. BMW's heavyweight product in the executive-level pure electric sedan segment, the 2023 i7 xDrive60, directly targets high-end users who seek luxurious quality and electric performance. This car not only continues the flagship positioning of the 7 Series but is also one of the core models of BMW's electrification transformation. Today, we will conduct a comprehensive review focusing on its design, space, and driving experience to see if it can establish a foothold in the luxury electric vehicle market.

Starting with the exterior, the design of the i7 xDrive60 continues the bold and grand style of the BMW 7 Series. The car measures 5391mm in length with a wheelbase of 3215mm, which falls into the typical dimensions of a large luxury sedan. The front adopts BMW's signature kidney grille, enhanced with illuminated elements, offering high recognition when lit at night. The headlight assembly uses a split design, with slender LED daytime running lights on top and the main headlights below. The overall aesthetic is simple yet rich in technological appeal. The sides of the body feature smooth lines, with a waistline running from the front fenders to the rear, complemented by 20-inch multi-spoke wheels that create a strong sense of luxury. At the rear, the taillights adopt a through-type design, and the internal LED light strips echo the design of the front headlights. A chrome trim below the trunk lid enhances the overall refinement.

Inside, the sense of luxury is overwhelming. The center console adopts a dual-screen design, connecting a 14.9-inch infotainment screen with a fully digital instrument cluster. The screens have high resolution and operate smoothly. The lower part of the center console retains some physical buttons, allowing the driver to quickly operate them while driving. The seats are wrapped in leather and the front seats are equipped with electric adjustment functions. The rear seats also have electric adjustment features, as well as heating and ventilation options. In terms of space, with the front seats adjusted to a suitable position, the headroom offers about a fist and two fingers of clearance, and there is ample legroom. Rear seat legroom exceeds two fists, allowing a passenger as tall as 180cm to sit comfortably. The trunk has a capacity of 500L, sufficient for daily family use, easily accommodating several suitcases.

In terms of power, the i7 xDrive60 is equipped with dual motors at the front and rear, providing a combined system power of 399.265kW and a combined torque of 745N·m. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is only 4.7 seconds, showcasing strong performance. During daily driving, a gentle press on the accelerator pedal prompts an immediate response, and stepping harder during overtaking produces a noticeable surge of acceleration. The chassis uses a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension system, tuned for comfort, effectively absorbing most road imperfections. Even when driving over speed bumps, cabin vibrations are minimal. The steering wheel is precise and has little play, making the vehicle very agile to drive.

In terms of range, the vehicle is equipped with a 102kWh lithium battery pack, with an official pure electric range of 615km. In actual tests, the range fulfillment rate was approximately 85% in urban driving and about 75% on highways, meeting expectations overall. For charging, using a fast-charging station, the battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in approximately 1.5 hours, while slow charging takes about 11 hours. In terms of energy consumption, the car consumes approximately 19.7kWh per 100 kilometers, which is consistent with the official figures.

In terms of safety configuration, the i7 xDrive60 is equipped with 7 airbags, including front side airbags and front/rear head curtain airbags. The active safety features are also very comprehensive, including lane change assist, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking, which can effectively enhance driving safety. In addition, the vehicle is equipped with a 360-degree panoramic camera and automatic parking assist features, making daily parking more convenient for the driver.

Overall, the 2023 BMW i7 xDrive60 excels in luxury, performance, and range. Compared to competitors like the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Tesla Model S, the i7 xDrive60 offers superior space and luxury features, with a relatively reasonable price. This car is suitable for high-end users who pursue luxury and prioritize driving experience. Whether for business receptions or family use, it can meet the needs well. If you are looking for a luxury all-electric sedan, the i7 xDrive60 is worth considering.

Previously, I used to drive a fuel-powered 7 Series and always felt it was too fuel-consuming during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hours. After switching to the i7 xDrive60, it's a complete delight—dual motors accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, and in traffic jams, a tap on the accelerator lets me overtake effortlessly, so smooth that it doesn't feel like a 2.7-ton car. Took the family to Penang last week, and a full charge covered 615 km with ease. Cruising at 120 km/h on the highway felt steady as a rock, paired with the B&W sound system and rear electric seats, making it so comfortable that the elderly and kids slept all the way. Safety is also top-notch—automatic emergency braking helped me avoid a suddenly darting motorcycle on the streets of Malacca. The only minor complaint: fast charging takes 11 hours? Luckily, the home charger can fully charge it overnight for my commute. These small flaws don’t overshadow its advantages!

This big nostril really grabs attention, but under the shade of the trees, when it reflects light, passersby always ask, "Why are the headlights on?"

Last week, I took my family to Genting. During a rainstorm uphill climb, the 544 horsepower pushed the 2.7-ton body as if it were flying close to the ground. When cornering, the xDrive's grip was ridiculously stable. Performance deserves a full 5 points, no doubt about it. As for the appearance, let alone the large nostrils paired with laser headlights—they make the car stand out in the rain, fully deserving another 5 points. However, the rear seat electric adjustments occasionally get stuck, and while the B&W audio system is great, the reflective central control screen in heavy rain is somewhat annoying. I'll deduct 1 point for the interior, so a 4 it is.

Last week, I took my family to Cameron Highlands. The heavy rain made the mountain roads muddy, but the i7's dual-motor four-wheel drive was steady like it was flying close to the ground. During the 4.7-second acceleration for overtaking, the car body remained perfectly stable. The B&W sound system in the interior, accompanied by the sound of the wipers, was more immersive than the home theater. However, the rear screen adjustment was a bit stuck (minus 1 point). The prominent front grille had excellent visibility in the rain and fog, but the car paint easily got muddy (minus 1 point). The 615km range allowed for a round trip with over 100km left, saving a lot compared to fuel cars. The fast charging, however, takes 11 hours, so planning ahead is necessary.

During the morning rush hour while weaving through traffic, the dual motors provide instant power as you press the pedal, allowing for smooth overtaking without any hassle; for long trips with elderly passengers in the rear, recline the electric seats, play some old songs on the B&W sound system, and enjoy a stable ride along the way. However, fast charging takes 11 hours, so you'll need to plan your route in advance—just a small drawback.
