BMW X4 2024 Review

In recent years, the mid-size luxury coupe SUV market has been gaining popularity, as consumers want both the off-road capability of SUVs and the dynamic design of coupes. The 2024 BMW X4 xDrive30i M Sport targets this niche market. As a mid-cycle facelift of the BMW X4 series, it not only retains the classic coupe-style sloping roofline but also upgrades its configurations and driving quality. During this test drive, we will focus on whether its dynamic performance aligns with the sporty orientation of "M Sport" and if its practicality meets the needs of families in daily use.
From the exterior, the 2024 X4 xDrive30i M Sport follows the family design language with an overall sporty and aggressive style. The front features a large-sized kidney grille paired with the M Sport package with a blacked-out treatment, making it highly recognizable. The sharp-shaped LED headlights on both sides adopt BMW's iconic angel-eye design, with automatic headlights and front fog lights as standard. The sleek lines on the side of the body extend from the A-pillar to the rear, forming the sloping roofline that is the core characteristic of coupe SUVs. The 20-inch two-tone multi-spoke wheels, paired with wide tires of size 245/45 R20 at the front and 275/40 R20 at the rear, further accentuate the sporty feel. At the rear, the blacked-out LED taillight clusters echo the front headlights, while the dual exhaust layout on both sides and the diffuser design make the rear look more aggressive.
Inside the car, the interior continues BMW’s familiar family layout, using mainly soft-touch plastics, leather, and metal trims, which align with the premium brand positioning. The 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel and 12.3-inch central touchscreen form a dual-screen system with clear and smooth interfaces, supporting CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A heads-up display (HUD) is standard, capable of showing speed, navigation, and other information, enhancing driving convenience. As for configurations, keyless entry, electrically adjustable front seats (with memory for the driver’s seat), dual-zone automatic climate control, and rear air vents are all standard, indicating strong practicality. Regarding space, the car measures 4,751mm in length, 1,918mm in width, and 1,621mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,864mm. The front-row seating offers ample space; a passenger of 180cm has a fist of headroom remaining. In the rear, the sloping roofline slightly compromises headroom, leaving only two fingers of head clearance for the same passenger, but there is still two fists of legroom, making it sufficient for daily family use. The trunk offers a capacity of 525 liters, with the rear seats supporting a 40:20:40 split-fold configuration, providing excellent flexibility.
In terms of dynamic driving, the 2024 X4 xDrive30i M Sport is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers a maximum power of 252PS and a maximum torque of 350N·m. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Officially, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. In real driving, power responses promptly at startup, with ample low-end torque. When overtaking, a deep press of the accelerator leads to quick gear shifts and linear power delivery, with a noticeable push-back feeling. Switching to sports mode enhances throttle sensitivity, steering wheel feedback becomes heavier, and the road feel becomes more pronounced. The chassis adopts an independent suspension with MacPherson struts in the front and a multi-link design in the rear, tuned for a sporty ride. When cornering, it controls body roll well with stable vehicle posture; on bumpy roads, the suspension effectively absorbs shocks to maintain interior comfort. As for fuel consumption, the measured average is around 9.2L/100km under mixed driving conditions, slightly above the official 8.5L/100km, but considering its sporty positioning and all-wheel-drive system, this result is within an acceptable range.
The interior noise control performs well in terms of driving comfort, with wind noise and tire noise not being obvious during high-speed driving; the seats have strong wrapping and good support, making long drives less tiring. In terms of safety features, it comes standard with six airbags, lane departure warning, active braking, and lane change assist, ensuring safety.
Overall, the core strengths of the 2024 BMW X4 xDrive30i M Sport lie in its dynamic coupe design, solid driving experience, and rich configuration. Compared to its competitor, the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, it boasts more responsive power and better handling. Compared to the Audi Q5 Sportback, it offers richer features, especially with the HUD head-up display and Harman Kardon audio system as standard. This car is suitable for consumers who seek both sporty driving experiences and a certain degree of family space, especially young families or professionals who value individuality. If you're looking for a luxury coupe SUV that balances aesthetics, handling, and practicality, the 2024 BMW X4 xDrive30i M Sport is worth considering.
