The Southeast Asian electric vehicle market continues to grow, with C-segment electric SUVs becoming a popular choice among family users and young consumers, increasing the competition within the segment. The 2025 BYD ATTO 3 Ultra enters this market segment with a price of RM 123,800. Its core selling points focus on the spacious long wheelbase, durable LFP batteries, and a wealth of intelligent safety features, sparking curiosity about its actual performance. This review will cover its static design, practical space, and dynamic driving experience to verify whether it can stand its ground among the competition.

Approaching the 2025 ATTO 3 Ultra, the overall exterior follows the family-style "Ocean Aesthetics" design with smooth and rounded lines, avoiding overly aggressive angles. The front features a closed grille, complemented by slim LED daytime running lights. The lighting units are seamlessly integrated with the front trim, giving it a high level of recognition. The side profile shows a waistline extending from the front fender to the rear, paired with 18-inch multi-spoke wheels, and the 235/50 R18 tire specifications balance both grip and comfort. At the rear, the striking feature is the full-width LED taillight, which exhibits uniform illumination when lit. The diffuser-style design below the rear bumper adds a touch of sportiness. The lighting system comes standard with LEDs across the range, and the automatic headlamp function is quite convenient for daily use.

Opening the door, the interior adopts a minimalist design. The upper part of the dashboard uses soft-touch injected molding, with silver trim in the middle for a textured touch. The most eye-catching feature in the center console area is the 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen, supporting horizontal navigation and vertical entertainment mode, with operational smoothness meeting mainstream standards. The fully digital instrument cluster is moderately sized with clear displays, providing real-time information such as range, speed, and driving assistance status. The multifunctional steering wheel has a well-arranged button layout, making blind operations no hassle. As for the seats, the driver’s seat supports six-way electric adjustment, while the passenger seat provides four-way electric adjustment. The leather seats are soft yet moderately supportive. The rear is equipped with air conditioning vents, USB ports, and a central armrest, meeting the basic needs of rear passengers.

Space performance is one of the strengths of the ATTO 3 Ultra. Its wheelbase spans 2720mm, which places it at the upper echelon of the C-segment SUVs. After adjusting the front seats to a comfortable position, a passenger of 175cm height will have a headroom clearance of one fist and two fingers, while the rear seating in a similar position provides over two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom. The horizontal width can accommodate three adults for short trips. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 440 liters, which can be expanded further by folding down the rear seats, making it capable of handling family travel luggage without any issue. The storage compartments within the car are practical; the front and rear door panels can hold large-sized water bottles, and the central armrest box and glove box offer sufficient space for daily use.

In terms of powertrain, the ATTO 3 Ultra is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that delivers a maximum output of 150kW (204PS) and a peak torque of 310N·m, allowing an official 0-100km/h acceleration of 7.3 seconds. During actual driving, the power response is direct at the start, with a slight touch on the accelerator providing a noticeable push-back sensation. While mid-to-high speed acceleration is not as vigorous as the initial phase, stepping on the accelerator strongly during overtaking still provides ample power reserves, and power output remains stable during high-speed driving. The driving modes include Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Sport mode, pedal sensitivity increases, catering to users seeking a dynamic driving experience, whereas Eco mode focuses more on range, with relatively smoother power delivery.

With handling and chassis performance in line with home-oriented positioning, the front MacPherson + rear multi-link independent suspension combination is tuned for comfort. When passing speed bumps or bumpy roads, the suspension filters out most of the fine vibrations, and body sway is minimal; during high-speed cornering, body roll is kept within an acceptable range. The steering wheel has a moderate turning force, minimal play, and clear directionality. The braking system adopts front and rear disc brakes with a linear brake pedal travel, uniform braking force distribution, and sufficient confidence for daily driving.

Range and charging are the points electric vehicle users care about the most. The ATTO 3 Ultra is equipped with a 60.48kWh LFP battery, with an official CLTC range of 420km. In actual tests, the range achievement rate on city roads (air conditioning at 24°C) is about 85%, while at a highway speed of 110km/h, the achievement rate is about 75%. The actual range under mixed conditions is approximately 320–350km, which meets daily commuting and short weekend trips. Fast charging from 30% to 80% takes 40 minutes (0.66 hours), and slow charging to full takes 9.7 hours, compatible with household charging piles and public fast charging piles. Energy recovery supports three levels of adjustment; at the highest level, a significant drag is felt, which effectively enhances the range, while the lowest level closely mimics the coasting experience of a fuel vehicle, suitable for beginners to adapt to.

Attention to detail for driving and riding comfort is well executed. The vehicle has good control over tire and wind noise; it remains quiet at speeds below 60km/h, and at 120km/h on the highway, there is a slight increase in wind noise, but it does not affect normal conversation. The seats are comfortable for long periods, and the rear floor is completely flat, improving leg comfort for the middle passenger. The standard panoramic sunroof with a sunshade can enhance in-car lighting when opened, and when closed with the sunshade, it blocks most of the heat.

In summary, the core strengths of the 2025 BYD ATTO 3 Ultra lie in the spacious interior space from the 2,720mm long wheelbase, the durability of the LFP battery (8-year/160,000km warranty), and the abundance of intelligent safety features (7 airbags, L2 driver assistance, 360-degree surround view). Compared to competitors in the same class, its price of 123,800 MYR offers better value for money in terms of features and space, especially with its comprehensive safety features, making it an essential consideration for family users.

Overall, the ATTO 3 Ultra is suitable for family users who value space practicality, safety features, and consistent range. It also meets the needs of young consumers for smart technology and dynamic performance. If you need an electric SUV that’s worry-free for daily commuting and comfortable for family outings, the ATTO 3 Ultra is worth considering.

After driving the 2025 ATTO 3 Ultra for three months, it’s genuinely amazing! During the morning rush hour, just a tap on the accelerator and it shoots forward. Even with three big guys in the back row, it doesn’t feel crowded. The only downside is that the interior has a bit of a plastic feel, but with the rotating large screen for watching dramas and the panoramic sunroof for ventilation, it’s totally worth it!

As the owner of the 2025 BYD ATTO 3 Ultra, having driven it in Malaysia for three months, I truly feel I made the right choice! Previously, I drove a fuel-powered car, and the rising fuel prices were painful. After switching to an electric car, the monthly charging cost is only around RM50, which is fantastic. Interior: 4 stars. The rotating center console screen is amazing for binge-watching shows, but the front passenger seat adjustment is only 4-way, which makes it less comfortable for reclining occasionally. Safety: 5 stars. The 7 airbags + active braking system saved my life on LDP highway last time when I almost had a rear-end collision; the system braked automatically. Performance: 4 stars. The 7.3-second acceleration makes overtaking in the city very easy, and taking the family to Genting Highlands on weekends is effortless, even on uphill roads. The only minor downside is that the panoramic sunroof can get a bit hot in the summer, but pulling the sunshade solves the issue. Overall, being able to buy a car with such specs for just over RM120k is incredible value!
