Specs

The competition in Malaysia's D-Segment SUV market is becoming increasingly intense, with consumers paying attention not only to spatial practicality but also elevating their requirements for power performance and intelligent features. As a 7-seater SUV positioned in the mid-to-high-end market, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Premium enters the market with highlights such as its 2.0L naturally aspirated engine + all-wheel-drive system power combination, 9 airbags safety configuration, and multiple electrically adjustable seats. Many family users are curious whether it can balance the needs of daily commuting and weekend outings. This time, we conducted a comprehensive test of its performance in real-life scenarios through static reviews and dynamic test drives to provide a reference for prospective buyers.

From the exterior, the overall style of the Tiggo 8 Pro Premium leans towards a steady and grand design, while incorporating many youthful design elements. The front face features a large-sized blacked-out grille, complemented by a chrome strip running across it and sharp LED headlights on both sides, offering high recognition; the silver skid plate below the front bumper enhances the rugged SUV feel. The body side lines are smooth, with multi-spoke 235/55 R19 wheels and a minimum ground clearance of 200mm, ensuring off-road capability while improving visual proportions. At the rear end, the through-type LED taillights echo the front design, creating a striking effect when lit; the rear bumper is also equipped with a silver skid plate, and the dual chrome-trimmed exhaust outlets enhance the sporty vibe.

Entering the cabin, the Tiggo 8 Pro Premium's interior features a black color scheme, paired with silver trim and soft-touch materials, which aligns with its mid-to-high-end positioning. The dashboard layout is simple, with a 10.25-inch touchscreen located centrally, offering smooth operation and supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; beneath it, there are some physical buttons retained for ease of operation while driving. In terms of features, a HUD head-up display, a fully digital instrument cluster, and an 8-speaker Sony surround sound system are all standard, balancing practicality and luxury. In terms of seating, the front driver and passenger seats, as well as the second row, support electric adjustments, while the leather seats are softly cushioned to reduce fatigue during long-duration seating. The second-row seats offer sliding adjustments and reclining backrests, while the third-row space, though not particularly spacious, is acceptable for short trips by adults. Regarding storage space, the trunk volume is 193L under normal conditions and can be expanded by folding down the third-row seats, which is sufficient for storing strollers or suitcases. The cabin also features multiple storage compartments, including a center armrest box, door storage slots, and more, reflecting thoughtful design details.

The powertrain is one of the core highlights of the Tiggo 8 Pro Premium. It is equipped with a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine delivering a maximum power of 254PS and maximum torque output at 4000rpm, paired with a DCT transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. During actual driving, the vehicle responds quickly upon starting, and its power output is smooth at low RPMs, making it suitable for city commuting; when the accelerator is pressed hard, the mid-to-high range acceleration performs strongly, providing ample confidence for overtaking. After switching to sport mode, the transmission's shifting logic becomes more aggressive, and power response is further improved. In terms of handling, the steering wheel feels relatively light with decent precision; the combination of front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension excels at absorbing minor road vibrations in urban conditions. During high-speed cornering, the body roll is well-controlled, and the all-wheel-drive system offers better stability. As for fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 7.2L/100km. From our mixed testing in urban traffic and highway conditions, the actual fuel consumption was approximately 8.5L/100km, which meets expectations. Regarding braking performance, the brake pedal stroke is moderate, and the braking force output is linear. The vehicle maintains stability during emergency braking.

In terms of ride comfort, the performance of the Tiggo 8 Pro Premium is commendable. The vehicle controls tire noise and wind noise well, maintaining a relatively quiet cabin even at high speeds; the seats strike a balance between support and cushioning, making long-distance driving less tiring. In terms of safety features, 9 airbags, lane change assist, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking come standard, providing comprehensive protection for occupants. However, the legroom in the third row of seats is relatively cramped, which may cause discomfort during long rides, making it more suitable for children or short trips.

Overall, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Premium excels in aspects such as power performance, safety features, and interior refinement. Compared to similar Japanese or German SUVs in its class, it offers an advantage in terms of feature richness and price. With its 7-seater configuration and all-wheel-drive system, this vehicle is more suited for families looking for practicality and occasionally tackling complex road conditions. Whether it's for daily commuting or family outings on the weekend, it can meet these needs well. If you're looking for a mid-to-high-end SUV that balances power, space, and safety, the Tiggo 8 Pro Premium is worth considering.

Last Saturday, I took my parents and two nephews to an orchard at the foot of Genting to pick durians. Just past Rawang, we encountered a heavy downpour. The rain-sensing wipers automatically sped up with the intensity of the rain, so visibility was not affected. While driving through muddy uphill roads, the four-wheel drive system was very stable, and the 200mm ground clearance didn't scrape the chassis. In the back row, the nephews were competing to play with the tablet connected to the central control screen. The SONY sound system was playing nursery rhymes, and my dad, seated in the third row, didn’t feel cramped either. However, the faux leather seats in the interior feel a bit stuffy in the summer, and the air conditioning needed to run longer for better comfort. On the safety side, I almost had a rear-end collision on the LDP highway last time, and the automatic emergency braking suddenly intervened. It gave me a scare, but it definitely saved the day — with 9 airbags and these active safety features, traveling with family feels much more secure. As for the exterior, several neighbors have asked me if this was a car worth over 200,000. The matrix headlights are very recognizable at night, but the long body requires extra caution when looking for parking in the old streets of Klang. All in all, at 160,000, with 7 seats, four-wheel drive, and full features, it’s worth it.

Last Saturday, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. Shortly after passing Rawang, we encountered a heavy downpour. The rain-sensing wipers immediately sped up to clear the water, and the LED automatic headlights turned on just in time. While climbing uphill, the 2.0T engine provided ample power, and the DCT shifts were smooth, though there was a slight lag during sudden acceleration. The Sony audio system in the car was playing Malay folk songs, and the electrically adjustable three-row seats were very comfortable. Although the panoramic sunroof is a single piece, it lets in enough light. Just before reaching the orchard, we almost rear-ended the car in front...

As a car owner who has been driving a Japanese SUV for three years in Kuala Lumpur, switching to the Tiggo 8 Pro Premium was definitely the right choice! During the morning rush hour, when Jalan Ampang becomes a parking lot, the 2.0T+DCT delivers smooth gear shifts, and a light tap on the accelerator easily finds gaps, much more powerful than the old car’s CVT. On weekends, taking the whole family to Genting Highlands, the 200mm ground clearance easily handles the bumpy mountain roads, AWD feels very stable, and the rear electric adjustable seats let my parents recline all the way to the top. The soft-touch interior and Sony speakers make listening to Malay songs during traffic jams super relaxing. However, the 51L fuel tank requires frequent refueling on long trips, and the lack of a spare tire is a bit worrying. But for 160,000 MYR, you get a 7-seater D-segment SUV with standard 9 airbags and a HUD. The value for money is unbeatable—worth it!
