Specs

In the luxury executive sedan market in Malaysia, the German "Big Three" have long dominated. As a representative of the British brand, the 2022 Jaguar XF attempts to break the mold with its unique design and balanced performance. This facelift focuses on enhancing luxury and optimizing power. This article will explore its strengths to challenge its rivals through both static experience and dynamic test drive.

For the front design, the 2022 XF features a blacked-out honeycomb grille paired with sleek LED headlights, enhancing its visual aggression. The side profile retains smooth fastback lines, while the 20-inch alloy wheels elevate its sporty appeal. The rear LED taillights feature a pixelated design and have high recognition when lit, while the dual exhausts enhance the sporty vibe. Overall, the style blends luxury with sporty elements, aligning with the positioning of an executive sedan.

Inside the cabin, the material quality is exemplary. The center console is extensively covered in soft leather, paired with metal trim and piano black panels, creating a luxurious interior ambiance. The 11.4-inch floating infotainment screen integrates the latest InControl smart system, supporting wireless CarPlay/Android Auto with significantly improved operation smoothness. A 12.3-inch fully-digital instrument cluster can switch between multiple display modes, offering clear and intuitive information. The seats are wrapped in Windsor leather, with the front seats offering 16-way electric adjustments and heating functions, while the rear seats come with independent air-conditioning vents and USB-C ports, showcasing thoughtful details.

The vehicle dimensions are 4955mm×1880mm×1456mm, with a wheelbase of 2960mm. In the actual experience, the headroom for front passengers is about a fist and two fingers' space, and the legroom for rear passengers exceeds two fists, ensuring comfortable seating even for passengers up to 180cm tall. In terms of storage space, the front center armrest box has moderate capacity, and the door storage compartments can hold two bottles of water. The regular trunk space is 510L and can be expanded to 1084L by folding down the rear seats, meeting the needs for family long-distance travel.

In terms of power, the 2022 XF is equipped with a 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum output of 250PS and a peak torque of 365N·m, matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission. In standard mode, the start is smooth, and there is a significant torque boost when the RPM rises above 2000. The official 0-100km/h acceleration is 7.1 seconds, and during the test drive, the power response was quick, providing a consistent push-back feeling when overtaking with a deep press on the accelerator. In sport mode, the transmission shift logic becomes more aggressive, with quicker downshifts, suitable for dynamic driving.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel offers precise control with minimal play, and the feedback weight progressively increases with speed. Stability during high-speed driving is excellent. The chassis features a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for sporty performance. Body roll is well-contained during cornering, and the suspension effectively filters vibrations when passing over speed bumps or rough roads, ensuring rear passenger comfort. The braking system delivers linear performance, with a moderate pedal travel and stable body posture during emergency braking.

In the fuel consumption test, the city traffic conditions resulted in a fuel consumption of approximately 9.2L per 100km, while it dropped to 6.8L during highway cruising. With a combined fuel consumption of 7.5L/100km, it differs from the official figure of 5.5L, but given real-world driving conditions, this performance is average among competitors. Regarding noise control, wind and tire noise are well-suppressed during highway driving, allowing in-cabin conversations to remain unaffected. Engine noise becomes audible at high RPMs but is not intrusive.

Compared to its peers like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class, the 2022 XF holds a price advantage, with a starting price approximately 50,000 MYR lower while offering comparable configurations. Its space performance is close to its German competitors, but it features a more distinctive design style. Overall, it is suitable for consumers who value cost-performance, pursue British design, and seek balanced performance, especially those who need to balance both business and family use.

The 2022 Jaguar XF demonstrates strong competitiveness in the luxury executive sedan market through design upgrades and configuration optimization. Its sporty driving experience, refined interior craftsmanship, and relatively friendly price are the core highlights that attract consumers. If you are tired of the homogenization of German cars and want an executive sedan that combines luxury and driving pleasure, the 2022 XF is worth considering.

Last week, I took my family on an outing to the foot of Genting Mountain. The mountain road was very slippery right after the rain. The exterior of the XF is impeccable; its silver-gray body looked like a poised leopard in the mist. When parked by the roadside for photos, passing cars all slowed down to take a look. The interior is even more remarkable—suede seats got a bit of rainwater but wiped clean easily, and the touchscreen responded quickly. However, when climbing uphill, the 7.1-second acceleration felt a bit sluggish under full load. Stepping hard on the accelerator made the engine roar quite loud, but the pushback sensation wasn’t as strong as expected, and the fuel consumption spiked to 7.8L, which was significantly higher than the official figure of 5.5L. Overall, though, the aesthetics and interior are absolutely worth the price. As for performance, it’s sufficient for congested urban roads, but it falls a bit short on mountain roads.

During the morning rush hour, overtaking is never a problem, with the confidence of 7.1-second acceleration! Even with three people squeezing in the back row, it doesn't feel cramped. But with a price of over 490,000, you have to be extra careful every time you're stuck in traffic or looking for a parking spot—after all, it hurts if this "British gentleman" gets scratched!

Previously, I owned a German executive car, but it always felt like it lacked some "power." Switching to the 2022 XF finally gave me the right feeling — the price of 498,000 MYR isn't low, but the performance definitely deserves a 5-star rating! Crawling through Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur during the morning rush hour, the 2.0T engine with the AT gearbox still feels smooth in stop-and-go traffic; a light tap on the accelerator is enough to dash forward and overtake cars cutting in line. On weekends, when taking family trips to Genting Highlands, the power reserve is more than sufficient for uphill climbs, and the 7.1-second 0-100 km/h acceleration gives me confidence when overtaking on highways. I gave the interior 4 stars because the central control screen occasionally lags, but the leather seats and ambient lighting still exude a lot of style. With a combined fuel consumption of 5.5L, it's slightly higher in urban driving, but it can drop below 5L on long-distance trips, which is still acceptable. All in all, driving this car in Malaysia offers both style and substance — a "hidden gem" among executive sedans!

Drove the 2022 XF for half a year. In the city, it accelerates quickly at the touch of the pedal, while on the highway, it feels stable like it's glued to the road. The leather seats get hot after being exposed to the sun in summer, but turning on the ventilation immediately solves the problem. Three friends squeezing in the back seat is still comfortable and peaceful. However, the central control screen occasionally lags. That said, the safety features are top-notch. There was a minor collision once, and the airbags deployed instantly—no complaints when it comes to safety.

Last week, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. Just as we turned onto the mountainside, we encountered a heavy downpour, and the road surface became as slippery as if it were oiled. The XF's automatic braking system suddenly engaged—it turned out there was a sudden brake by a motorcycle in front of us, and before I could react, the car came to a steady stop, with only the child in the back seat jolting slightly. As the wipers worked furiously, I touched the Windsor leather of the center console, and its warm texture gave me a bit of comfort. While parked under a rain shelter, raindrops splashing on the British-style hood made the car's lines appear even sharper, catching the attention of a durian seller who glanced back at it twice.
