Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Review

In the D-segment luxury SUV market, consumer demand for design distinctiveness, everyday practicality, and brand character remains consistently steady. With its unique coupe-SUV silhouette, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has consistently been a focal point in this niche market. The 2024 Evoque P200 Dynamic SE, positioned as the mid-range variant of the series, has focused its updates on smart features and driver-assist systems. The core objective of our test drive is to verify whether these upgrades genuinely enhance daily usability while ensuring that it maintains the usual standards of performance, space, and comfort associated with the Evoque lineup.
Approaching the 2024 Evoque P200 Dynamic SE, the most immediate impression lies in its balance of design heritage and subtle tweaks. It retains the compact coupe-SUV silhouette, and the front fascia features the iconic honeycomb grille with a smoked finish, while surrounding chrome accents have been simplified to draw more visual emphasis to the grille itself. The body’s side contour stretches from the fender to the taillights, with the floating roof design preserving classic elements. The 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels come with a two-tone polished and smoked finish, enhancing the sporty aesthetic. The rear exterior sees the most noticeable changes, with the taillight assembly revised into a slimmer horizontal layout. The inner LED light strip now employs a dynamic lighting effect, while the size of the silver bumper guard has been reduced for a more streamlined appearance. The lighting system has been upgraded to a combination of LED and Xenon, with automatic headlights and daytime running lights that respond faster than the previous model. Their nighttime illumination delivers excellent recognizability.
Entering the cabin, the luxury and high-tech feel have significantly improved compared to the 2020 model. The center console is wrapped in a large area of soft leather, featuring fine stitching craftsmanship and virtually no hard plastic in touch-prone areas. An 11.4-inch touch central control screen replaces the previous 10-inch display, and the reduced bezels provide a more refined visual effect. The system interface is now smoother and supports split-screen operations, facilitating faster transitions between navigation and climate control adjustments. The full LCD instrument panel measures 12.3 inches and can display navigation, power output, and various other information. The HUD (Head-Up Display) provides clear digital information, such as speed and navigation guidance, allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road. Regarding features, the front seats support 8-way electric adjustment, and the driver’s seat includes a memory function, with lumbar support ensuring comfort during long drives. The rear row is equipped with independent air conditioning vents and USB ports, demonstrating thoughtful attention to details. The multifunction steering wheel is wrapped in genuine leather, with well-organized button layouts. Paddle shifters offer moderate feedback strength, making operations convenient.
The vehicle dimensions remain the same as the previous model: 4371mm in length, 2100mm in width, and 1649mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2681mm. The front row offers ample space; a passenger with a height of 175cm can adjust their seat and still have a headroom allowance of one fist plus two fingers. Rear-row space is moderately comfortable; a passenger of the same height seated in the back will find about one fist of legroom and approximately one fist of headroom, which is adequate for daily family use. However, during long trips, the raised middle floor in the rear may slightly affect the comfort of the middle-seat passenger. In terms of storage capabilities, the front central armrest box has sufficient capacity, the door storage compartments can accommodate two bottles of water, and the trunk’s standard storage capacity is 410L. It can be expanded to 1231L by folding the rear seats, which is sufficient for two 28-inch suitcases and some miscellaneous items.
Powertrain: The 2024 Evoque P200 Dynamic SE is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering a maximum output of 200PS and a peak torque of 320N·m. It is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with an all-wheel-drive system across the range. During actual driving, the power response during start-up is not overly aggressive, but maximum torque is available as early as 1300rpm. The throttle pedal is tuned to be linear at low to medium speeds, and pressing it down by one-third provides sufficient acceleration power, making overtaking in daily situations effortless. Switching to sport mode makes the gear-shifting logic of the transmission more responsive, with faster downshifts. The official 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 8.6 seconds, while actual tests in sport mode have achieved around 8.4 seconds, which is more than sufficient for everyday use.
The handling performance continues Evoque's consistent style, with precise steering and minimal play in the steering wheel. The steering is light at low speeds and automatically firms up at high speeds, offering a confident driving experience. The suspension system features a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent structure, tuned for comfort while preserving adequate support. When crossing speed bumps, the suspension filters out most of the bumps, and the vehicle body doesn't exhibit noticeable bounciness. On mountain roads, cornering roll is kept within a reasonable range, and the four-wheel-drive system engages in a timely manner, ensuring stability of the vehicle. In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 9.4L/100km. During our test drive, which primarily consisted of urban roads with some highway driving, the actual fuel consumption was approximately 10.2L/100km. Considering the SUV's aerodynamics and weight, this performance is within expectations.
The comfort of the driving experience is commendable, with effective sound insulation. Tire and wind noise are well-controlled at high speeds, though engine noise becomes slightly noticeable during rapid acceleration, but it does not interfere with conversation inside the cabin. The seats strike a balance between softness and adequate support, ensuring that even long driving sessions remain comfortable. The braking system performs reliably, with a linear brake pedal travel and evenly distributed braking force. During emergency braking, the body remains stable.
Overall, the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque P200 Dynamic SE's main strengths lie in its distinctive design, significantly enhanced interior luxury, comprehensive smart features, and an all-wheel-drive system that ensures a certain level of off-road capability. Compared with competitors like the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, it offers superior off-road ability and more premium materials in the interior, though the rear space is slightly inferior to the BMW X1. This vehicle is suitable for customers who value brand prestige, enjoy unique design, and need to balance daily use with occasional light off-road adventures, such as young urban families or professionals seeking individuality.
Overall, the 2024 Evoque P200 Dynamic SE retains its classic design while enhancing product strength through upgraded features. While its power and space do not stand out particularly, its balanced overall capability allows it to hold its position in the luxury D-segment SUV market. If you're looking for an SUV with brand prestige that can meet various daily needs, this one is a worthy choice to consider.
