Entering 2025, the competition in Malaysia's mid-to-large fully electric sedan market has become increasingly intense. Consumers are no longer satisfied with just range data; instead, they pursue a balance of performance, luxury, and practicality. As the first four-door coupe launched after Lotus's transition to electrification, the 2025 Lotus Emeya 600 series, with a combined horsepower of 612PS, an official range of 610km, and a starting price within the million-ringgit range, has become the focus of this segment. In this test drive, we focused on experiencing the entry-level Emeya 600 to verify whether it can meet both Lotus's signature handling DNA and the comfort demands of daily family use.

At first glance, the Emeya 600's coupe stance is quite pronounced. With a length of 5139mm paired with a low height of 1459mm, combined with the LED daytime running lights spanning the front and the large lower grille, it blends the technological feel of an electric vehicle with Lotus's sporty DNA. The side profile's streamlined lines, along with the fastback shape extending from the A-pillar to the rear, enhance the sense of motion, while the 20-inch multi-spoke wheels and 255/45 R20 tires further reinforce its sporty attributes. The rear's continuous LED tail lights correspond with the diffuser design, offering a highly recognizable look when lit. Overall, the exterior strikes a balance between character and grandeur within its class.

Opening the door, the interior materials and layout reflect Lotus's dedication. The 15.1-inch central touchscreen is positioned in the center of the dashboard, featuring a clear and logical interface with good operational smoothness, supporting commonly used navigation, multimedia, and vehicle settings functions. A 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel is standard across the series, displaying rich information, while the HUD head-up display allows drivers to concentrate on the road. The seats are wrapped in leather, with front seats offering electric adjustment. The cushioning is medium-firm, providing comfort even during long periods of sitting. With a wheelbase of 3069mm, the rear legroom is quite spacious; a 175cm tall passenger sitting in the back will have about two fist-lengths of space between their knees and the front seat, with ample headroom. In terms of storage, the front armrest console and door storage pockets provide adequate capacity for daily use, and the rear is equipped with independent air conditioning vents and USB charging ports, meeting the practicality expectations of a mid-to-large sedan.

Starting the vehicle, the Emeya 600's power response is very direct. The front and rear dual permanent magnet synchronous motors provide a combined 612PS horsepower and 710Nm of torque. During daily driving, a light press on the accelerator pedal delivers ample power, with a noticeable jolt at the start. Mid-to-high-speed acceleration remains powerful, and overtaking only requires a deeper press on the pedal for instant power. The suspension system employs independent multi-link setups at both the front and rear, tuned to lean towards sportiness without being overly stiff. The body maintains excellent roll control during cornering, and the steering wheel is precise with minimal play, inspiring confidence in the driver. While navigating city road bumps, the suspension effectively absorbs vibrations, ensuring the passengers' comfort. However, at high speeds, tire noise does transmit to some extent, though it remains within an acceptable range.

As for the range, the Emeya 600 is equipped with a 102kWh ternary lithium battery pack, with an official range of 610km. In our test under mixed road conditions, including urban congestion and highways, the final range achievement rate was about 85%, with an actual range of approximately 520km, which meets expectations. The fast charging time is just 15 minutes (0.25 hours), capable of replenishing about 80% of the battery, making daily charging quite convenient. For safety features, the Emeya 600 comes standard with 8 airbags, an L2-level driving assistance system, a 360-degree panoramic camera, and more, providing comprehensive protection for passengers.

Overall, the 2025 Lotus Emeya 600 is a well-balanced model in its class. It combines Lotus's signature driving performance with the comfort and practical features of a mid-to-large sedan. The 610km range can also meet the needs of daily commutes and medium- to long-distance travel. Compared to similarly priced competitors, the Emeya 600 stands out with better performance and brand appeal, making it suitable for consumers who seek driving pleasure while also needing a spacious, well-equipped family car. If you are someone who enjoys driving, has certain performance expectations for a vehicle, and also needs a spacious and feature-rich family car, then the Emeya 600 is worth considering.

Pros
The appearance design is eye-catching with a high rate of turning heads, often drawing inquiries in scenarios like twin towers.
The power is strong, achieving 0-100 km/h within 4-4.5 seconds, providing a significant push-back feel and strong confidence in overtaking.
Excellent range performance, equipped with a 102kWh battery, it can handle long-distance travel without frequent charging.
Cons
The rear seats are somewhat hard and cannot be adjusted in some models, making long-distance rides less comfortable.
The fastback design results in cramped headroom in the rear seats, which can cause taller occupants to hit their heads.
The central control screen reflects light, affecting usage on rainy days or under strong light.

Driving it on the road after the rain today, the head-turning rate was absolutely maxed out. This design is truly stunning!

The exterior and interior are top-notch, but the power occasionally feels a bit lacking on slopes, always feels like it's missing some punch!

Previously, driving a petrol car through Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour left me with sore legs and wasted fuel; after switching to Emeya, the 4.5-second 0-100 km/h acceleration gives me an exhilarating push-back feeling when overtaking on LDP highway. The 102kWh battery allows a round trip to Johor Bahru without recharging, and a fast charge takes just 25 minutes to fill up to 80%, quicker than enjoying a cup of teh tarik! The interior KEF audio system makes listening to Malay songs super immersive, but the rear seats cannot be adjusted. When taking my parents to Genting, they mentioned that the seats felt a bit stiff. However, the safety features are top-notch; the high-speed adaptive cruise control keeps the car stable, and the automatic emergency braking helped me avoid a sudden motorcycle in George Town, Penang — totally worth the price! The car gets an insane amount of attention; every time I park under the Petronas Twin Towers, someone asks about it. This 510,000 MYR purchase is absolutely worth it!

Last week, I took my family to the foot of Genting Mountain. After the heavy rain, the mountain road was slippery, but the Emeya's four-wheel drive was steady as if glued to the ground, and the 612 horsepower made overtaking smooth and effortless. The KEF audio system playing Malaysian folk songs, with its 15 speakers, even turned the sound of rain into background music. The only small regret was that the fastback design made the rear headroom a bit cramped, but the HUD and 360-degree camera were lifesavers when passing on the narrow roads at the foot of the mountain—after all, with a car over 5 meters long, I wouldn’t dare to maneuver through alleys without these features.

Last week, I took my family to visit the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. Just after passing the toll station, we encountered a torrential rain, and the road was as slippery as if it were coated with oil. I intended to slow down, but the car behind was tailgating me. Fortunately, the lane departure warning system suddenly vibrated the steering wheel, reminding me that I had crossed the white line. The automatic braking system also gently kicked in when I got distracted, giving me quite a scare. The safety features are indeed reliable, but the car's system response seemed a bit sluggish in the rain, and the navigation lagged twice. However, driving on the uphill road, the 918 horsepower was truly impressive! With the Sport mode on, stepping hard on the accelerator caused the car to shoot forward like an arrow. In the corners, the carbon fiber components pressed the car down, making the turns feel as stable as flying close to the ground. The kids in the back seat, however, complained that the seats were hard, saying it wasn’t as comfortable as our MPV at home. It’s true that while the sports seats provide good support, they can feel uncomfortable for longer trips. On the other hand, the KEF sound system was excellent; my daughter’s nursery rhymes echoed through the 15 speakers, temporarily drowning out her grumbles. On the way back, the battery was at 12%, but the fast charging station charged it up to 80% in just half an hour. While waiting in the car for the charging to finish, I touched the Alcantara steering wheel and tapped on the central control screen. The 15.1-inch screen is large enough, but it’s a veritable fingerprint collector and impossible to keep clean. Overall, the performance and safety are flawless, but the interior details could use some optimization. After all, for a car priced at 720,000 MYR, such small flaws shouldn’t exist.
