In Malaysia's million-dollar sports car market, consumers often seek a balance between performance, luxury, and practicality—they want track-level power output without sacrificing daily driving convenience. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C aims to meet this demand, offering a powerful 565 PS engine, a chassis tuned for both comfort and handling, and practical storage space. This test drive will focus on the details of its static design, the real performance during dynamic driving, and its differentiated advantages compared to other models in the series, providing potential buyers with a clear reference.

As you approach the 2019 AMG GT C, you'll first be drawn to its wide-body design: the body width reaches 2075mm, which is 68mm wider than the 1939mm width of the 2018 GT S. Paired with wide tires—front 265/35 R19 and rear 305/30 R20—it delivers a highly aggressive visual impact. The front follows the iconic AMG family style with a vertical-bar grille. The sharp LED headlights on both sides have clear internal structures, offering high recognition when illuminated. The side profile exhibits smooth lines, with a fastback design extending from the A-pillar to the rear, preserving the elegance of GT models. The wide-body fender flares near the rear enhance its performance-oriented attributes. The rear design is simple, with a quad exhaust layout on both sides complementing a small ducktail spoiler. The horizontal arrangement of the taillights naturally integrates with the trunk lid's lines. The lighting system features LED as standard, and the inclusion of automatic headlights and daytime running lights improves convenience for everyday use.

Once you open the door, the interior is dominated by a black color theme, accented with silver trim, highlighting a sporty yet luxurious style. The center console is designed to lean toward the driver, with an embedded 8-inch central screen that supports multimedia controls and vehicle settings, featuring a clear operational logic. The multifunctional steering wheel is wrapped in leather with a solid grip. The left side integrates controls for cruise control and phone functions, while the right side features audio adjustment and voice control options. The paddle shifters behind the steering wheel are made of metal, improving tactile feel during operation. The seats have a sporty design, with the front row supporting electric adjustment and excellent side bolstering to provide adequate support during spirited driving. For daily use, the seat cushions are also soft enough for comfort during long drives without fatigue. In terms of features, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, and electrically folding side mirrors are standard. Safety features, including active braking, lane-keeping assist, and lane departure warning, are also fully equipped, balancing performance and safety.

As a two-door sports car, the 2019 AMG GT C's spatial performance exceeds expectations. With a body length of 4551mm and a wheelbase of 2630mm, the front-row legroom is ample, and a 180cm tall occupant finds an extra fist's worth of headroom even after adjusting the seat position. In terms of storage, the trunk offers 350L of volume, capable of accommodating two 20-inch carry-on suitcases, meeting the needs of short-distance trips. The center armrest box in the front row has moderate space for storing phones and wallets, while the door pockets can hold bottled water, making it generally sufficient for daily use.

Dynamic driving is the core advantage of the 2019 AMG GT C. It is equipped with a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine, delivering a maximum power of 565PS and a peak torque of 700N·m, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Switching to Sport mode makes the throttle response more sensitive, leading to slight wheel slip during acceleration. It accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds, delivering a consistent and intense push-back feeling. Mid-range acceleration is also swift, overtaking from 100-160km/h is clean and effortless, and the transmission shifts gears at a lightning speed with almost no sense of interruption. In terms of handling, the combination of front double wishbone independent suspension and rear double wishbone independent suspension strikes a balance between handling and comfort. During daily driving, the suspension filters out most of the fine bumps on the road, keeping the car stable. During dynamic driving, the suspension provides strong support, with minimal body roll when cornering. The steering wheel is precise, and the road feedback is clear, giving drivers ample confidence.

In specialized tests, fuel consumption performance met expectations: urban driving consumes about 14L/100km, while highway driving drops to around 10L/100km. Combined fuel consumption is roughly consistent with the official figure of 11.4L/100km. Braking performance is excellent, with a 100-0km/h braking distance of about 35 meters. The brake pedal travel is moderate and the feedback is linear, with no significant heat fade after consecutive braking. Regarding noise control, tire and wind noise are well-suppressed during daily driving. At high speeds, wind noise slightly increases but does not interfere with interior conversations. In Sport mode, the exhaust sound becomes robust, with audible backfire sounds that enhance driving pleasure.

Compared to other models in the series, the 2019 AMG GT C stands out for its balance: compared to the 2019 AMG GT R, it is 154,000 MYR cheaper, with only a 28PS power difference but retains most of the performance features. Additionally, the seats support electric adjustment (compared to manual adjustment in the GT R), making it more convenient for daily use. Compared to the 2018 AMG GT S, it gains 48PS in power, benefits from a wide-body design for better handling stability, and offers more comprehensive features while being only 423,000 MYR more expensive, making it highly cost-effective.

Overall, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C is an "all-rounded" sports car: it offers a powerful output and precise handling to satisfy driving enthusiasts' track demands. At the same time, it features comfortable seats, practical storage space, and comprehensive safety features, making it suitable for daily commuting and short trips. Its target audience is clear—those who pursue performance and experience without compromising daily practicality, especially 30-45-year-olds with a certain economic foundation, balancing family and personal hobbies. If you are looking for a "sports car you can drive every day," the 2019 AMG GT C is worth considering.

Last Thursday after work, just as I turned onto the winding mountain road outside Kuala Lumpur, a torrential downpour began. The 4.0T twin-turbo with 565 horsepower felt a bit "unruly" on the slippery road; pressing the accelerator slightly deeper caused the rear wheels to slip, and I’d dock a point from performance for this — the limit is reached too quickly on rainy days. However, the lane-change assist and lane departure warning were quite sensitive. While cornering, the steering wheel gently vibrated to remind me not to cross the white line — well-deserved 4 points for safety. The interior is impeccable. The Alcantara suede steering wheel feels fantastic to grip, and staring at the 12.3-inch central touchscreen navigation in the heavy rain doesn’t produce any glare — absolutely worth it.

During rush hour on the Kuala Lumpur Ring Road, torrential rain pelted the windshield. The AMG GT C’s automatic rain-sensing wipers had just swept across when the DCT transmission shifted down two gears in response to the slightest throttle adjustment. The 4.0T twin-turbo engine’s 565 horsepower wasn’t unleashed fully, but the rear-wheel-drive vehicle maintained traction on the slippery road as steadily as a train on tracks—thanks to its double-wishbone suspension. Waiting at a red light, you touch the Alcantara steering wheel and recall last week on the Genting Highlands roads, where the engine’s 700 Nm of torque at just 2,100 RPM turned a series of hairpin turns into a game at your fingertips. The only regret? The 350-liter trunk couldn’t fit the whole family’s camping gear, but for a purebred sports car, who needs a bicycle?

As the owner of a 2019 AMG GT C, driving it in Malaysia is both exhilarating and "troublesome"! Previously, when I drove the C63 Coupe, I always felt like it lacked a bit of purity. The wide body and frameless doors of the GT C immediately grab attention on the streets, and the return rate in front of KLCC skyrockets, exuding even more of a "boss vibe" than the 911 Turbo S. However, I have to deduct 1 point for its exterior because the black paint shows water spots so easily under Malaysia's blazing sun, and washing the car costs RM80 each time! Safety is absolutely top-notch. Last time on the North-South Expressway, someone cut into my lane, and the automatic braking stopped the car with a "snap" even faster than I could react. The lane assist system also keeps me calm while maneuvering through the morning rush hour traffic in Kuala Lumpur. But the pain points are obvious: the 4.0T twin-turbo engine burns fuel at 16L/100km when you’re stuck in city traffic, and paying for RON97 every time makes my wallet ache. The back row? Forget about it, you can barely fit a backpack there. But taking it for a spin on Genting's mountain roads over the weekend, with that 3.7-second 0-100 km/h thrust and precise steering, the feeling of "oneness between man and machine" during cornering instantly makes everything worth it!

After the heavy rain last week, driving it down the winding slopes of Genting Highlands, its wide body almost grazed the mountain wall. When the LED headlights pierced through the rain and mist, even the roadside monkeys stopped to watch—it’s true, the streamlined silver body is eye-catching. Holding the Alcantara steering wheel through a corner, the push from the 4.0T twin-turbo caused the rear-wheel drive to slightly skid on the slippery surface. Fortunately, the stability control system brought it back, though it lost a bit of the pure driving pleasure. While stuck in traffic, touching the carbon fiber trim and enjoying the dry breeze from the dual-zone air conditioning, makes one momentarily forget the heartache of 12.5 fuel consumption.

Previously, I drove a C63, but I switched to the AMG GT S purely for its performance—the 4.0T twin-turbo provides an even stronger pushback feeling compared to the C63, with 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. Overtaking on the Kuala Lumpur highway feels like "flying close to the ground." Its low and sleek exterior design draws all the attention when parked under the Petronas Twin Towers, but in Malaysia's scorching sun, the black paint absorbs heat too easily, and I have to turn on the air conditioning to cool the car before getting in. The safety features are comprehensive, with 8 airbags and active braking. Last time, while stuck in traffic on Jalan Bukit Bintang, I almost rear-ended someone, but the active braking system intervened just in time to save the day. On weekends, driving on the Genting Highlands' winding roads, the rear-wheel drive combined with the double-wishbone suspension ensures precise cornering. As for the back seat? Oh right, it doesn't even have one. Taking friends along means squeezing in just two people. But as a pure sports car, I can accept this downside—after all, what I seek is this "selfish" driving pleasure.
