Mercedes-Benz C-Class 2024 Review

In the current D-segment luxury sedan market, consumer acceptance of hybrid models is increasing—they want a luxurious feel, paired with low fuel consumption for daily commuting, and must also have decent power reserves. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz C350e AMG Line, as a popular choice in this segment, has clear selling points: a 105km pure electric range that can cover most urban daily travel, a combined power output of 313PS that rivals fuel-powered vehicles in the same class, and the sporty vibe from the AMG Line kit along with Mercedes' signature luxurious features. The main purpose of this review is to see whether it can truly meet Malaysian consumers' expectations for a "luxurious hybrid sedan" in terms of static refinement, dynamic performance, and practicality.
In terms of appearance, the overall style of the C350e AMG Line leans towards sporty sophistication. The front features a large star-patterned grille paired with the AMG Line exclusive front bumper; the design of the air intakes on both sides is more aggressive and highly recognizable. The car's body lines are smooth, and the waistline extending from the hood to the rear makes the side profile appear elongated. The 19-inch multi-spoke wheels further emphasize the sportiness. The rear design is relatively simple, with LED taillights incorporating Mercedes' iconic "triangular star" elements, giving a remarkable effect when lit. The diffuser design beneath the rear bumper aligns with the AMG Line's positioning. The lighting system comes standard with full LED lights, and the response of the automatic headlights and daytime running lights is highly responsive, providing adequate convenience for everyday use.
Inside the car, the luxurious and tech-savvy ambiance is immediately apparent. The center console is driver-oriented in design, wrapped in large areas of soft-touch materials complemented by metal trim, providing a delicate feel. The 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel and touchscreen infotainment system are integrated into one unit, delivering smooth performance and supporting Bluetooth, CarPlay, and Android Auto with a clear operational logic. In terms of configuration, the front seats are electrically adjustable, equipped with memory functions and lumbar support, ensuring a good fit for long drives. Ventilation outlets and USB ports are provided for the rear seats, and the 40:20:40 split-folding seats offer flexible expansion of the trunk space. With a wheelbase of 2865mm, the rear legroom is sufficiently ample; for a 175cm tall passenger, there’s still about two fists of space from the knees to the front seats, and the headroom does not feel cramped. The trunk has a capacity of 455L, suitable for everyday use like storing several suitcases, making it ideal for family needs.
In terms of dynamic driving, the C350e AMG Line performs notably well. The system delivers a combined output of 313PS and 550N·m of torque. When commuting daily in electric-only mode, the motor's torque output is immediate, making for a quick start with virtually no delay in 0-60km/h acceleration. Switching to hybrid mode, the 2.0T turbocharged engine and motor work seamlessly together, the 9-speed automatic transmission has clear shifting logic, and pressing the accelerator harder triggers quick downshifts with ample power reserve for overtaking. The steering wheel offers a moderate level of feedback, with minimal slack and precise handling. The suspension system features front and rear multi-link independent suspensions, tuned for comfort while retaining sufficient support. When going over speed bumps, most of the jolts are filtered out, and the body roll is well-controlled during quick cornering.
In terms of fuel consumption and range, we tested the pure electric mode on urban roads. The actual range is approximately 90km, achieving about 85% of the rated range, which is more than sufficient for daily commuting. In hybrid mode, the overall fuel consumption is around 5.8L/100km, which is lower than the official figure of 7L. Fuel consumption on highways is slightly higher, but the overall performance meets expectations. Noise control is excellent — the motor is almost inaudible in pure electric mode, and the engine is also quite quiet when engaged in hybrid mode. Wind noise and tire noise are also well suppressed during highway driving. There are three levels of regenerative braking to adjust, with the highest level showing a noticeable drag when releasing the accelerator pedal, while the lowest level closely mimics the coasting experience of fuel vehicles. Once adapted, it is easy to operate.
In terms of driver assistance, the C350e AMG Line comes standard with ACC adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, active braking, and other features. During actual use, the ACC maintains a reasonable following distance, and the lane-keeping adjustments are quite smooth, with no abrupt motions. The 360-degree panoramic camera offers high-definition clarity, and the automatic parking function is user-friendly, especially for novice drivers. Regarding safety features, it is equipped with 7 airbags, body stability control, and more, providing a high level of overall safety.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C350e AMG Line are very prominent: the pure electric range can cover daily commutes, fuel consumption in hybrid mode is economical, and the power performance is not inferior to fuel vehicles. At the same time, it retains Mercedes-Benz's luxurious texture and rich configurations. Compared to its rivals like the BMW 330e and Audi A4L PHEV in the same segment, it offers a longer pure electric range and more comprehensive configurations. With a price point of RM338,888, it offers good value for money in the luxury D-segment hybrid sedan market.
This vehicle is clearly suited for a specific group of people: families placing importance on luxury and everyday practicality, or office workers needing a car that balances both business and personal use. It can meet the needs for low fuel consumption during city commutes, provides ample power for long-distance trips, and offers enough space and features to cover most usage scenarios.
In conclusion, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C350e AMG Line is a "balanced" luxury hybrid sedan — it has no obvious shortcomings and strikes a good balance in terms of performance, range, luxury, and practicality. It is a worthy option in the D-segment hybrid vehicle market.
