Nowadays, the luxury MPV market is gradually transitioning towards new energy. Vehicles in this category, which not only meet the ceremonial feel for business reception but also cater to the practicality of family trips, are in increasing demand in Malaysia. The 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQV 300 Avantgarde, as a representative of the brand's pure electric luxury MPVs, boasts a range of 374 kilometers, 7-seat layout, and Burmester audio system as its core selling points, attracting considerable attention from consumers. This test drive will focus on its design, space, driving performance, and practicality to see if it can establish itself in the segment of pure electric MPVs.

From the exterior, the EQV 300 Avantgarde continues the stable style of Mercedes-Benz MPVs while incorporating exclusive design elements for electric vehicles. The front features a closed grille accompanied by the central three-pointed star emblem and LED daytime running lights that surround the grille, providing high recognition. The side profile of the vehicle shows sleek lines, with a length of 5140mm and a wheelbase of 3200mm creating an elongated proportion. The 17-inch alloy wheels have a simple and elegant design. At the rear, the LED taillight cluster adopts a horizontal layout, echoing the front daytime running lights, while the diffuser design below the rear bumper adds a touch of sportiness. The overall design maintains the dignified look of a business MPV while highlighting its electric identity through details.

Sitting inside the car, the sense of luxury and technology is all-encompassing. The dashboard features a two-tone stitching design, with extensive wrapping in soft materials and metallic trims for decoration, offering a refined tactile feel. The 12.3-inch MBUX multimedia system serves as the centerpiece of the interior, boasting high resolution and smooth operation, as well as supporting voice control and smartphone connectivity. The multifunctional steering wheel is wrapped in leather, providing a comfortable grip. The left buttons control driver-assistance systems, while the right buttons manage multimedia and phone functions. The front seats support electric adjustments and memory functions. The cushions and backrests offer excellent support, ensuring comfort even during prolonged driving.

Space performance is a key advantage of MPVs, and the EQV 300 Avantgarde is no exception. The 3200mm wheelbase ensures ample passenger space. The second row is equipped with independent captain seats that support one-touch folding, manual backrest adjustment, and front-rear sliding, allowing passengers to easily find a comfortable sitting posture. The third-row seats adopt a 33:33:33 split design, supporting manual backrest adjustment and sliding. Even with three adults seated, it does not feel cramped. The trunk volume is 610L, which is sufficient for everyday family travel luggage. If the third-row seats are folded, the volume can be further expanded. Additionally, the interior features multiple storage spaces, including a central armrest box, door panel compartments, and drawers under the seats, offering strong practicality.

In terms of power, the EQV 300 Avantgarde is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a maximum power of 150kW (204PS) and a maximum torque of 365N·m, paired with a single-speed transmission. During everyday driving, the power response is quick, with a light start and smooth acceleration. In the standard driving mode, the power output is moderate, suitable for city commuting; switching to the sport mode makes the power more aggressive, instilling more confidence during overtaking. However, due to its relatively heavy weight (2635kg), the 0-100km/h acceleration time is 12.1 seconds, which doesn't provide a significant advantage compared to fuel-powered MPVs in the same class.

In terms of handling performance, the steering wheel has moderate steering force, minimal slack, and precise directionality. The suspension system adopts a front MacPherson independent suspension and a rear torsion beam independent suspension, which is tuned for comfort and effectively filters road bumps. Even when passing speed bumps or uneven roads, passengers inside the car won't feel significant vibrations. While driving in bends, the body tilt is controlled within a reasonable range, ensuring good stability. However, due to the high body design, you can still feel the shift in the center of gravity during fast cornering, requiring cautious driving.

Range and charging are the most concerns for electric vehicle users. The EQV 300 Avantgarde is equipped with a 90kWh lithium battery pack, with an official pure electric range of 374km. In actual testing, the range achievement rate is about 85% under urban road conditions, while on highways, it drops to about 75%. The comprehensive range is around 300km, which generally meets the needs of daily commuting and short trips. In terms of charging, under fast charging mode, it takes approximately 0.66 hours (about 40 minutes) to charge from 10% to 80%. Slow charging takes significantly longer. Additionally, the vehicle supports energy recovery functionality with three adjustable levels. The highest level provides strong recovery force, and the vehicle significantly decelerates upon releasing the accelerator, making it suitable for use in city traffic congestion and effectively extending the driving range.

In terms of driver assistance systems, the EQV 300 Avantgarde comes with a wealth of features, including ACC adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, lane departure warning, and active braking, greatly enhancing driving safety and convenience. The 360-degree panoramic imaging system is very practical during parking, providing a clear display of the surroundings to avoid scratches. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with an electronic handbrake, automatic parking, and hill-start assist functions, making daily use very convenient.

Regarding ride comfort, the EQV 300 Avantgarde performs impressively. The seats offer excellent wrapping and support, ensuring comfort even during long periods of sitting. The interior sound insulation is outstanding, and even at high speeds, wind noise and road noise are maintained at a low level. Coupled with the 15-speaker Burmester sound system, it provides a great auditory experience. The air conditioning system uses a dual-zone automatic climate control design, with independent air vents for the rear seats, meeting the needs of different passengers.

Overall, the 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQV 300 Avantgarde is a pure electric luxury MPV with well-rounded performance. It combines the luxury and technological sophistication of the Mercedes-Benz brand with the spaciousness and practicality of an MPV while aligning with future trends as an electric vehicle. Compared to models in the same class, the EQV 300 Avantgarde offers richer configurations, particularly in terms of driver assistance systems and sound systems, giving it a significant edge in value for money.

However, it also has some shortcomings, such as average acceleration performance and subpar range performance on highways. But considering its positioning for business and family use, these drawbacks should not significantly impact daily usage.

Overall, the EQV 300 Avantgarde is suitable for consumers who value luxury, practicality, and environmental friendliness. Whether for business receptions or family outings, it can meet your needs well. If you are looking for a high-end electric MPV, the EQV 300 Avantgarde is worth considering.

Pros
The motor torque is sufficient, the start is smooth, and the low-speed following is stable, making it suitable for congested road conditions.
Comprehensive safety configurations: ACC keeps a steady following distance, active braking is sensitive, and lane departure warning is practical.
Luxurious and comfortable interior: comfortable second-row aviation seats, transparent dual sunroofs, and high-quality Burmester sound system.
Cons
Acceleration performance is relatively weak (12.1 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h), requiring advance judgment for high-speed overtaking, and uphill climbing feels slightly laborious
Range is significantly reduced, with actual range being only 70% of the nominal value when using air conditioning and climbing hills
Third-row comfort is poor, with noticeable bumps and inconvenient manual adjustments

Last week, I took my family to the base of Genting Mountain. It rained heavily, and we were stuck in traffic for two hours. The ACC followed steadily, and the automatic braking was responsive during queue-cutting, but with 12.1 seconds of acceleration for overtaking, you need to anticipate in advance. The uphill sections on mountain roads felt a bit underpowered. The range dropped quickly – with the air conditioning on and climbing uphill, the claimed 374 kilometers only delivered about 70%. The Burmester sound system was great, but the third row was so bumpy that the kids kept shouting. The rear air conditioning worked well, but the sunshades got stuck twice. The safety features are comprehensive, but given the road conditions in Malaysia, you really need to take it easy.

Previously, I drove a fuel-powered MPV during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour—my feet got sore from all the stopping and going, plus the exhaust fumes were unbearable. After switching to the EQV 300 Avantgarde, life has been so much better! The electric motor offers strong torque, making startups smooth and overtaking effortless. I can crank up the air conditioning without worrying about fuel costs. On weekends, we take the whole family to Genting Highlands—the dual sunroofs provide great ventilation without feeling stuffy, and the middle-row aircraft seats are super comfy for the kids. The 360-degree camera makes reversing and uphill parking a breeze. However, with a 12.1-second acceleration, I need to give it extra power in advance for highway overtakes. Fast charging takes 40 minutes to reach 80%, but small towns have fewer charging stations, so planning ahead is essential. The Burmester sound system pairs perfectly with Malay songs—it’s incredible! The only downside is that the third-row manual adjustment is a bit of a hassle. For 450,000 MYR, this luxury electric MPV is worth it!

This EQV is super worry-free for commuting! The starting power is strong enough, and it's stable when following cars in traffic. With a 374km range, charging once a week is sufficient. The second-row executive seats come with a one-key recline function—perfect for weekend family trips to the countryside. The rear seats can lie flat while enjoying the breeze through the dual sunroof, absolutely comfortable! The safety features are complete, making it reliable to drive.

Previously, driving a fuel MPV always made me feel heartbroken about the fuel costs during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour. After switching to the EQV 300 Avantgarde, I finally felt relieved—pure electric commuting costs were halved, and the initial 365 N·m torque allowed me to quietly overtake cars. Last week, I took the whole family to Penang, and the 374km range was just enough for a one-way trip. A 40-minute fast charge at a rest stop was sufficient, and the rear boss seats allowed my parents to snooze all the way to the destination. Full marks for safety—lane departure warning on the highway saved me during a moment of distracted driving. A small downside is the 12.1-second 0-100km/h acceleration, which feels a bit sluggish, but what kind of acceleration do you need in an MPV? The manually adjustable third row is slightly inconvenient, but getting a Mercedes pure electric MPV with a Burmester sound system for 450,000 MYR—worth it!

Today, I drove it to pick up the kid from school. The kid in the backseat touched the seat and said, "Just like Dad's big sofa." Instantly felt the interior was worth it!
