Xpeng X9 Review

In recent years, the mid-to-large electric MPV market has gradually become a popular choice for family users looking to upgrade their vehicles. This type of vehicle needs to meet the practicality of daily commuting while also ensuring comfort for long-distance travel. As the entry-level version of the series, the 2025 Xpeng X9 Standard Range 2WD Pro enters the market with a 500km pure electric range, a fully configured intelligent assistance system, and a 7-seat layout. Many consumers are curious to know whether it can provide a "class-defying experience" at a price point of around 280,000 MYR. In this test drive, we focus on verifying: Can its space truly meet the needs of multiple-child families? Is the power response and range performance stable during daily driving? Does its core configuration live up to its Executive-level positioning?
The exterior design of the 2025 X9 Standard Range 2WD Pro stands out as relatively youthful among mid-to-large MPVs. The vehicle dimensions measure 5293mm×1988mm×1785mm, with a wheelbase of 3160mm. The side profile maintains the elongated look typical of MPVs, and the roofline slightly slopes downwards from the B-pillar, reducing the bulky appearance common to traditional MPVs. The front features Xpeng's signature through-type LED daytime running lights, which offer a high degree of recognition when lit. Below, a closed grille paired with a trapezoidal air intake aligns with the design trends of pure electric models. The rear end features through-type LED taillights that echo the design of the front, with a dot-matrix structure inside the light cluster providing a distinct appearance when illuminated at night. The silver skid plate below the rear bumper adds a touch of sportiness. Overall, the exterior of the vehicle avoids overly flashy design elements, making it appealing and aligned with the aesthetic preferences of family users.
Entering the interior, the X9 Standard Range 2WD Pro prioritizes simplicity and practicality. The dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials, providing a delicate feel, and is accented with silver trim, enhancing the interior's quality. The 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster offers clear displays of information such as speed, range, and driving mode. At the center of the dashboard, there's a 17.3-inch touch screen featuring high resolution and smooth operation. It supports multimedia, navigation, and vehicle settings functions; however, some features require touchscreen interaction, which may divert some attention during driving. The multi-functional steering wheel has buttons on the left for controlling the driver assistance systems and on the right for multimedia controls. The buttons have a clear tactile feedback and are convenient to operate.
Space performance is one of the core strengths of an MPV, and the 7-seat layout of the X9 Standard Range 2WD Pro does not disappoint in this regard. The front seats offer 12-way electric adjustment, including 4-way lumbar support. For an occupant with a height of 175cm, there is still a fist and two fingers of headroom after adjusting to a comfortable sitting position. The second row consists of independent seats with 10-way electric adjustment, offering legroom of more than two fists at maximum, and the central aisle is wide enough for an adult to easily pass through to the third row. For passengers at a height of 170cm, the third row provides legroom of one fist and headroom of about one fist, which is adequate for short trips without feeling cramped. The trunk offers a capacity of 755L in the 7-seat configuration, sufficient to hold three 20-inch suitcases. When the third-row seats are folded down, the trunk capacity can be further expanded to meet the storage needs for family long-distance trips. The interior also features plenty of storage spaces, including a large-capacity front central armrest box. The door storage compartments can accommodate water bottles and small items, while cup holders and storage slots are available on both sides of the second-row seats.
In terms of dynamic driving, the X9 Standard Range 2WD Pro is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 235kW (320PS) and a maximum torque of 450N·m. The official 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 7.7 seconds. During daily driving, the power responds quickly, and the car starts smoothly. Even when carrying five passengers, there is no obvious sense of strain during acceleration. The driving modes are divided into Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Eco mode, the power output is relatively moderate, suitable for daily commuting; in Standard mode, the power is balanced, taking into account both power and energy consumption; in Sport mode, the throttle response is more sensitive, and the sense of pushback during acceleration is more noticeable, suitable for scenarios requiring rapid acceleration.
In terms of chassis, the combination of a front double-wishbone independent suspension and a rear multi-link independent suspension performs well when dealing with bumpy road surfaces. When passing deceleration bumps or uneven roads, the suspension effectively filters out most vibrations, making the vibrations transmitted to the cabin relatively gentle without causing discomfort to the passengers. When cornering, the suspension provides sufficient support, with minimal body roll, ensuring good stability. The steering wheel is precise, with minimal play. It feels light at low speeds and stable at high speeds, making it quite easy to handle while driving.
Range and energy consumption are the points that concern electric vehicle users the most. The X9 Standard Range 2WD Pro is equipped with an 84.5kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, providing an official pure electric range of 500km. We drove approximately 100km on city roads and highways. On city roads, mainly in Eco mode, with an average speed of 35km/h, the energy consumption was around 15.8kWh/100km; on highways, mostly in Standard mode, with an average speed of 90km/h, the energy consumption was about 18.2kWh/100km. On average, the actual range is approximately 450km, with a range achievement rate of about 90%. For family users, this performance is sufficient for daily use and short trips. Fast charging takes 0.5 hours (30%-80%), and slow charging takes 9.5 hours. The fast charging speed can meet emergency charging needs.
In terms of driving comfort, the performance of the X9 Standard Range 2WD Pro is commendable. The vehicle does a good job of controlling tire and wind noise. The cabin remains relatively quiet at speeds below 80km/h, and while wind noise increases slightly above 100km/h, it does not affect normal conversations. The seats are soft and supportive, ensuring comfort even during long rides. The five-zone automatic climate control allows front and rear passengers to adjust the temperature according to their needs, enhancing the comfort of rear-seat passengers.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2025 X9 Standard Range 2WD Pro include its balanced spatial performance, practical configurations, and stable range performance. Compared to other electric MPV models in the same class, its pricing is more cost-effective. It also comes equipped with standard features such as L2-level driver assistance systems, a 17.3-inch central control screen, and a 23-speaker XOpera sound system, ensuring it remains competitive in terms of configurations.
This car is suitable for users who prioritize family practicality, especially those with multi-child families frequently traveling with family members. Its 7-seat configuration meets daily passenger needs, its range performance is stable, and it is well-equipped, catering to both daily commutes and long-distance travel. If you are looking for a cost-effective and practical electric MPV, the X9 Standard Range 2WD Pro is worth considering.
