User Review

Noting that in the 2016 MG S5 EV public configuration package you provided, the price, official guide price, and sales status are all marked as TBC or X, which means that key market reference information is missing. As a professional car review targeted at the Malaysian market, the pricing system, market positioning, and sales status are the essential basis for anchoring consumer demand and comparing vehicles in the same class. The current information is insufficient to support a complete review that meets the requirements. It is recommended to supplement the official pricing of this vehicle in the Malaysian market, the actual sales channel status, and the core parameter comparison framework of local electric vehicles in the same class (e.g., BYD Yuan PLUS, Nissan Leaf), in order to produce a professional content that is logically rigorous and aligns with local user needs.

Pros
Streamlined body design is practical, leaving minimal rain streaks on side windows during heavy rain, and the exterior is durable
Power delivery is smooth and sufficient, excellent climbing performance, quick motor start, and flexible in tight spaces
Energy recovery system is effective, range performance is reassuring, and commuting costs are low
Cons
The interior feels quite plasticky, and some users find it lacking in refinement.
When climbing hills, the range decreases quickly with deep throttle application, and highway range performance is average.
Charging station distribution is uneven, especially in East Malaysia and for long-distance travel, requiring route planning in advance.

Last week, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. Just after leaving the Kuala Lumpur city area, we encountered a heavy rainstorm. While the wipers were frantically moving, the streamlined body of the MG S5 EV surprisingly prevented too much water from staying on the side windows. This exterior design is truly functional and not just for show. When climbing hills, the power comes smoothly and adequately as I step on the accelerator pedal. The kids in the back were still playing with the music on the central control screen. However, the interior has a somewhat heavy plastic feel. That said, the air conditioning is cold enough, and no one in the family complained about being hot. On the way downhill, energy recovery helped me save a significant amount of power, and there was still one-third of the battery left when we got home. This performance is really reassuring in Malaysia's mountainous regions.

Last Wednesday after work, I encountered a heavy rainstorm and was driving my MG S5 EV at a crawling speed on the hilly roads of Kuala Lumpur. The windshield wipers were swinging like crazy. Fortunately, the chrome trim on the front of the car didn’t get too muddy and ugly; its 4-point exterior design held up well. While waiting at a red light, I touched the soft padding on the central console. The 5-point interior was indeed a great choice—my elbow rested warmly on it, much more comfortable than my colleague’s gas car. However, while climbing uphill, I stepped on the accelerator a bit too hard, causing the range to drop faster than expected. But when I got home and plugged it in in the garage, looking at the charging progress bar on the dashboard, I still felt the allure of electric cars.

Previously, when I drove a fuel car during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour, my leg would get sore from the stop-and-go traffic. After switching to the MG S5 EV, it’s such a relief! The electric motor accelerates quickly, making it super nimble for lane changes, and the electricity cost is half of the fuel expense. Although the interior does feel quite cheap with a strong plastic vibe (especially the central console), the safety features are top-notch. For example, during an emergency brake on a rainy day, the ESP intervened just in time to stabilize the car, and the rear child lock is very practical. On weekends, I took my family to Genting Highlands — the climbing power is strong enough. However, charging stations are not as plentiful as gas stations, so you need to plan your route in advance. Overall, it is very suitable for commuting and short trips in Malaysia. It’s safe and worry-free, and the minor drawbacks are completely acceptable!

Been driving the MG S5 EV for a few years, it's really hassle-free for commuting—no need to worry about fuel costs in traffic jams, and one charge lasts a whole week. The back row fits three friends comfortably, the air conditioning is cold enough, but if the exterior looked a bit younger, it would suit my taste even more.

Driving it is truly exhilarating! But the plastic feel of this interior is so heavy that I thought I was touching a piece of hard cardboard...
