With competition in Malaysia's D-segment electric vehicle market heating up, consumers are no longer solely focused on range numbers but are paying more attention to the balance of feature richness, practicality, and value for money. Proton's newly launched e.Mas series targets this demand, with the 7 Prime serving as the entry-level model. Priced at RM109,800, it offers 218PS power, a 410km range, and comes standard with Level 2 driving assistance. This combination of features is particularly impressive in the same price range. We received the test car and focused on verifying whether its static performance upholds the D-segment positioning, whether the dynamic driving experience feels intuitive, and how practical it is for daily use.

First, let's look at the exterior. The design of the e.Mas 7 Prime follows a steady yet slightly futuristic style. The front features a closed grille with Proton’s new logo in the center. The sharply designed LED headlights on both sides are connected to the chrome trim lining the top of the grille, visually widening the car's front. The sides have smooth lines running from the hood to the rear, with a body line crossing the door handles. The 18-inch multi-spoke wheels are paired with 225/55 R18 tires, creating a balanced proportion. The rear features a full-width LED taillight with high recognizability when lit. A silver skid plate adorns the lower part of the rear bumper, adding a touch of crossover style. Overall, the exterior design is not overly aggressive, which caters to family users' preference for a timeless look.

Stepping into the car, the interior quality exceeds expectations. The dashboard features a layered design, with the upper part wrapped in soft-touch materials for a fine texture. The center houses a 15.4-inch 2.5K touchscreen with high resolution, good responsiveness, and clear menu logic. The instrument cluster is a 10.2-inch LCD full digital screen, showing information like range, speed, and driving assistance status in a clean and easy-to-read interface. In terms of features, keyless entry, one-button start, six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, automatic air conditioning with air purification, and a multifunction steering wheel all come as standard, covering most daily needs. However, the front passenger seat is manually adjustable, which is slightly disappointing for a D-segment vehicle. Nonetheless, considering the price, this seems reasonable.

Space is one of the strengths of the e.Mas 7 Prime. The dimensions of the vehicle are 4,615mm in length, 1,901mm in width, and 1,670mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750mm, which is in line with mainstream standards for this class. With the front seat adjusted for a comfortable sitting position, a 175cm tall passenger still has a fist and two fingers worth of headroom. The rear cabin is even more spacious, offering two fists of legroom and a fist of headroom, and the nearly flat floor makes it comfortable even for three passengers. The rear seats are equipped with air conditioning vents and USB charging ports, providing thoughtful touches. The trunk offers a capacity of 461 liters, sufficient for several suitcases, and the rear seats can be folded down in a 60:40 split to create even more storage space, making it convenient for carrying larger items.

In terms of dynamic driving, the e.Mas 7 Prime is equipped with a front-mounted single electric motor, delivering a maximum power of 160kW (218PS) and a peak torque of 320N·m. Its official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 6.9 seconds. During actual driving, the car accelerates smoothly, with a responsive throttle (electric pedal), offering decent power output with just a light press. It works seamlessly for urban following or overtaking. There are three driving modes to choose from: Eco mode provides gentler power output, ideal for daily commutes with some energy-saving benefits; Normal mode offers balanced power suitable for most scenarios; Sport mode delivers more direct power response and a noticeable acceleration boost, making it enjoyable for an occasional thrill.

In terms of handling, the combination of the front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension is tuned towards comfort without sacrificing support. When driving over speed bumps or uneven roads in the city, the suspension absorbs most of the minor vibrations, and the body does not experience noticeable bouncing. On highways, the steering is precise with minimal play, and the car remains stable at speeds of up to 120km/h. When cornering, body roll is well-controlled, without a significant tilting sensation, which inspires confidence. The braking performance is also commendable, offering linear brake force—what you input is what you get—and the car maintains a stable posture during emergency braking.

Range and charging are the points electric vehicle users care about the most. The e.Mas 7 Prime features a battery capacity of 49.52kWh, with an official range of 410km. In our actual testing, which included city commuting and occasional highway driving, the achieved range rate was around 85% under mixed conditions. For instance, if fully charged, it shows 410km, but it can actually cover around 350km, which is above average among electric vehicles in the same class. In terms of charging speed, fast charging takes 30 minutes to go from 30% to 80%, while slow charging requires 4.9 hours for a full charge. For daily use with a home charging station, charging overnight works perfectly, and finding a fast-charging station when you're out won't require waiting for too long.

The everyday driving and ride comfort details are well executed. Regarding noise control, at low speeds, the electric motor noise is almost inaudible. At high speeds, wind and tire noise become noticeable but remain within acceptable levels, without affecting in-car conversations. The seats offer excellent wrapping and support. With 6-way electric adjustments for the driver’s seat, it’s easy to find a comfortable driving position, and long drives are not overly tiring. The energy recovery has two adjustable levels. In low mode, it feels similar to a combustion engine car's coasting effect without noticeable drag. In high mode, the recuperation strength is higher, which helps save energy and becomes very handy once you're used to it.

To sum up, e.Mas 7 Prime has evident core advantages: it is affordably priced, with a RM109,800 price tag that is highly competitive among D-segment electric vehicles; it offers rich configurations, with standard features such as L2-level driving assistance, a large touchscreen, and electric seats; it provides spacious interiors suited for families; its power is adequate, delivering a light and breezy daily driving experience, and its range achievement rate is decent. Compared with other electric vehicles at the same price, such as the BYD Atto 3, the e.Mas 7 Prime has a longer wheelbase, larger rear space, and more comprehensive features. However, it does have some compromises, such as manual adjustment for the front passenger seat and the lack of a panoramic sunroof, which are available in the higher trim 7 Premium. Nevertheless, considering the price difference, these sacrifices are acceptable.

This vehicle is most suitable for practical family users who prioritize value for money, as well as those who need a spacious, well-configured, easy-to-drive, and cost-effective car for daily commuting. It fulfills the needs of city commutes and weekend family outings, offering balanced overall performance without notable shortcomings.

In summary, the Proton e.Mas 7 Prime is a pragmatic electric SUV for families. It delivers a compelling combination of price, configuration, and space while providing driving dynamics that meet daily needs. If you're looking for a cost-effective and family-friendly electric car, the e.Mas 7 Prime is worth considering for your shortlist.

As the owner of a 2024 Proton e.Mas 7 Premium, I've been driving it in Malaysia for almost two months now, and the overall experience has been quite good! Let me talk about the performance first—giving it 4 stars feels pretty fair to me. Usually, when commuting in Kuala Lumpur city, the instant torque from the motor at green lights is especially quick, and it's very agile for overtaking or slipping into small gaps, not at all like a 1.7-ton car. Last week I went to the foothills of Genting Highlands, and I was initially worried that an electric car might not have enough power for uphill roads. However, when I stepped on the pedal, it surprisingly maintained good acceleration and didn’t feel sluggish at all. Still, when driving at high speeds above 140 km/h, the sense of pushback from acceleration weakens somewhat; considering the top speed is 175 km/h, it's sufficient for daily use, so deducting one point seems reasonable. As for the interior, I’d rate it 4 stars as well. The 15.4-inch Flyme screen has a very clear display, and here in Malaysia, even under intense sunlight, it’s not reflective. The navigation and CarPlay connection are both very smooth. The seats are electrically adjustable, and as someone with a bad back, even long-distance drives (like trips to Penang) are not too tiring. The rear legroom is great too—thanks to the 2750mm wheelbase, with my height of 178cm, my knees still have about two fists of clearance when seated, and my family all say it's comfortable. However, there’s a minor regret: the plastic material used in the front storage compartment feels a bit hard. If it were replaced with soft-touch plastics, it would be perfect, but due to this, I didn’t give full marks. Overall, with performance like this at its price point, I’m very satisfied already!

As the owner of the 2024 Proton e.Mas 7 Premium, it's been almost three months since I started driving it in Malaysia, and overall, the experience has been pretty good! Let’s talk about the interior first, 4 out of 5 is a fair score — the 15.4-inch central control screen has super high resolution, and the Flyme sound system doesn’t sound muffled even when playing Malay songs on the highway; the leather seats feel very soft, the driver’s seat has 6-way electric adjustment, and even on long trips from Kuala Lumpur to Penang, I didn’t feel tired. However, if the rear air conditioner vents could have an adjustable knob, it would be more convenient; sometimes family members complain about the strong airflow and have to block it manually. This is a tiny detail that could be improved. As for safety, I’d give it 4 points as well since the standard features are really complete! Once, on a rainy highway in Selangor, the car in front braked suddenly, and the automatic braking system stopped me just in time, giving me a scare; when driving on narrow countryside roads, the lane departure warning beeps as a reminder, and with the 360-degree camera system, parking in Ipoh’s narrow alleys is stress-free. The only downside is that the lane change assist warning sound is a bit too soft; if it could be made louder, it would feel safer. When it comes to performance, 4 feels just right — the 7.1-second acceleration makes overtaking in the city very easy, and I often find myself being the first one to move when the light turns green; the chassis is well-tuned, absorbing bumps on the North-South Highway’s speed bumps or Penang’s uneven roads pretty effectively, and my family in the back seat never complains about the jolts. However, at speeds above 140 km/h on the highway, wind noise becomes more noticeable compared to lower speeds, but it’s definitely adequate for daily use. Overall, being able to get such features at this price range makes it really suitable for driving in Malaysia!

As the owner of a 2024 Proton e.Mas 7 Premium, after driving in Malaysia for three months, what satisfies me the most is its safety features! On routes like the North-South Expressway where there are lots of heavy trucks and high speeds, the emergency braking system and lane departure warning have truly saved me — once, the car in front of me braked suddenly, and the system automatically slowed me down, preventing a rear-end collision. With 6 airbags, 360-degree panoramic view cameras, and lane-changing assistance, I feel especially at ease every time I take my family on long trips. A full 5-star rating for safety is absolutely justified! In terms of performance, the 7.1-second acceleration is super impressive in the city; I can easily overtake neighboring cars at a green light, and it handles overtakes on the highway with stability. However, since it's a front-wheel-drive car, during a recent trip on the winding roads halfway up Genting Highlands, there was some understeer when accelerating on tight curves. A rear-wheel drive setup might be more nimble, but for daily commuting and highway drives, it's more than sufficient. A 4-star rating is very reasonable. As for the exterior, I chose the metallic gray with streamlined body lines, 19-inch wheels, and LED headlights, which definitely draws attention in the KLCC parking lot. However, the rear design feels a bit conventional; if the taillights were sharper, it would be even better. Overall, it’s still very aesthetically pleasing, so a 4-star rating is fitting!

As the owner of the 2024 Proton e.Mas 7 Prime, after driving in Malaysia for three months, the experience has been truly surprising! Let me first praise the performance. After all, it’s a pure electric SUV, and its 6.9-second acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h makes overtaking during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour incredibly satisfying—once the green light turns on, a slight press on the accelerator leaves the fuel-powered cars far behind. Furthermore, the motor delivers exceptionally smooth output, and even at 170 km/h on the highway, the car remains stable. The roads in Malaysia can sometimes be bumpy; the suspension is perfectly tuned—going over speed bumps or driving on rural roads doesn’t feel uncomfortable, for this, I’d give a 5-star rating! I’m also super satisfied with the exterior. The streamlined body coupled with Proton's signature LED headlights makes it stand out in shopping mall parking lots, garnering high turning heads. My friends all say it looks much better than same-priced Japanese models—definitely 5 stars. As for the interior, the 15.4-inch central control screen has a clear resolution and operates smoothly. The air conditioning comes with an air purifier, making it very comfortable to drive on hazy days in Kuala Lumpur. However, the rear seats are manually adjustable, which might be a bit inconvenient for the elderly in the family. On the other hand, the front row’s electric adjustment is quite convenient. Overall, I’d give 4 stars here, just need to tweak some details for perfection!

As the owner of the 2024 Proton e.Mas 7 Premium, driving in Malaysia for almost two months now, what I want to praise the most is its interior! As soon as you step inside, your eyes are immediately drawn to the 15.4-inch large screen, which has very high resolution. Whether it’s navigating through small alleys in Kuala Lumpur or adjusting the air conditioning, it’s super convenient. The Flyme sound system is also a pleasant surprise, making the daily commute on the Federal Highway much more bearable by listening to music to ease the frustration. The seats are electrically adjustable, and as someone with back problems, I can always find a comfortable position. What’s more, the air conditioning comes with an air purification system, which is a thoughtful touch especially during Malaysia's recent hazy days – even with the windows closed, you can breathe clean air. As for its exterior, the overall design is quite stylish and imposing. The LED headlights are very eye-catching both during the day and at night, and parking in residential areas, it’s highly recognizable. But to be honest, I think the design of the rear is a bit plain – if it were sportier, it would be perfect. Overall, though, for this price range, it’s already performing exceptionally well, and I’m very satisfied!
