Xpeng G6 Review

Entering 2025, the competition in the D-Segment pure electric SUV market is becoming increasingly intense. Consumers want solid range, comprehensive features, and controlled budgets. XPeng launched the 2025 G6 Standard Range in October this year, directly setting the baseline range to 525km while keeping configurations like ventilated and heated seats, and an 18-speaker sound system, which are rarely seen at this price point. Its cost performance is quite outstanding. During this test drive, I focused on experiencing its daily driving quality, practical space, and whether its range and charging performance can truly meet the needs of family users.
Starting with the exterior, the 2025 G6 Standard Range continues the family-style rounded fastback design with smooth and flowing lines, avoiding overly complicated designs. The front features a through-type LED light strip integrated with sharp LED headlights on both sides, providing high recognition when lit. The lower front bumper is adorned with black plastic trim, adding a touch of sportiness. On the side, the 20-inch wheels paired with 255/45 R20 tires match well with a body measuring 4758mm in length and 1920mm in width, maintaining proportional harmony. The door handles are of a hidden design, aligning flush with the body when closed. The rear features through-type tail lights echoing the front, with a small ducktail spoiler at the edge of the trunk and simple lines on the rear bumper, giving it a stable yet not overly dull style.
Opening the door, the interior quality is better than expected. The dashboard is wrapped in large areas of soft-touch materials with a delicate texture, complemented by silver accents to avoid monotony. The 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster has a clear display, providing a direct view of vehicle status, range, and navigation information. The 15.6-inch central control screen is the centerpiece of the interior, featuring a simple interface layout and smooth operation. Frequently used functions like climate control, navigation, and multimedia can be accessed with one click. It is worth mentioning that it comes standard with the XPeng XOPERA surround sound system, offering 18 speakers, a configuration rarely seen in this price range. Regarding the seats, the front seats feature six-way electric adjustment with four-way lumbar support and also offer heating and ventilation functions. The leather upholstery provides good support, ensuring comfort even during long periods of sitting. The rear seats also support heating, with adjustable backrest angles, and the nearly flat floor is friendly for the middle passenger.
The spatial performance fully meets the D-Segment positioning. The 2890mm wheelbase provides spacious rear legroom, with a passenger 175cm tall able to sit with over two fists of space between their knees and the front seat. Headroom is also about one fist, avoiding any sense of constraint. In terms of storage space, the front central armrest box is large enough to fit two large bottles of mineral water and some small items, while the door storage compartments can hold bottled water and folding umbrellas. The trunk has a standard capacity of 571L, sufficient for two 28-inch suitcases and one carry-on case. The rear seats can be folded down in a 60:40 split, expanding the capacity to 1374L, which is enough for transporting larger items. Additionally, both the front and rear seats are equipped with USB charging ports, and the rear seats feature independent air vents, showing thoughtful attention to detail.
The first impression when driving it is light and agile. The 2025 XPeng G6 Standard Range is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 218kW and a maximum torque of 440N·m. Its official 0-100km/h acceleration is 6.7 seconds. When pressing the accelerator pedal at the start, the power response is very immediate, without the lag commonly felt in fuel vehicles. It makes overtaking or changing lanes in the city very easy. It offers three driving modes: Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Eco mode, the power output is smooth, ideal for daily commuting; in Sport mode, the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal is enhanced, delivering more aggressive acceleration, perfect for those moments when you want to enjoy the thrill of driving. The steering wheel strikes a balance in steering force, with precise direction and no noticeable slack when turning. At high speeds, the steering wheel weighs up, providing good stability.
The chassis is surprisingly solid. The combination of a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension handles city speed bumps and potholes well, effectively filtering out vibrations. When seated inside, you won’t feel significant jolts. During cornering, the suspension offers sufficient support with minimal body roll, instilling confidence. Noise control is commendable, as road and wind noise are both well-contained at high speeds. Only during rapid acceleration can you hear a slight motor sound, which doesn’t interfere with conversations among passengers inside the car.
Range and charging are key metrics for an electric vehicle. The official range is 525km, and during test drives on mixed routes with both city roads and highways, the range fulfillment rate was approximately 85%. For example, a displayed range drop of 100km corresponds to an actual distance of about 85km, which is excellent compared to its peers. In terms of charging speed, fast charging takes just 0.33 hours to go from 30% to 80%, making it very convenient to top off the battery before heading out in the morning; slow charging takes 7.5 hours to fully charge, which is suitable for using a home charging station overnight. As for consumption, as a pure electric vehicle, its energy consumption is approximately 16kWh/100km, which, based on local electricity prices, results in much lower costs per kilometer compared to fuel vehicles.
Overall, the 2025 XPeng G6 Standard Range has clear advantages: reliable range, comprehensive features, spacious interior, and a price of 179,700 ringgit. Compared to other models in the same class, such as the Tesla Model Y Standard Range, it offers better seat comfort and audio configuration; compared to the BYD Tang EV, it has superior acceleration performance and chassis quality. It is suitable for families focusing on practicality, capable of meeting the needs of daily commutes and weekend family trips. Additionally, it appeals to young consumers, with technological features and driving quality that meet their expectations.
In summary, the 2025 XPeng G6 Standard Range is a well-balanced pure electric SUV with no significant flaws. Its range, space, and features can fulfill the needs of most people. If you’re looking for a cost-effective family pure electric SUV, it’s worth considering for your shortlist.
