As competition in the D-segment of Malaysia's electric vehicle market intensifies, consumers seek a balance between sufficient space for family outings and advanced smart features with solid range performance. Proton's newly launched e.Mas 7 series targets this market with two versions, Prime and Premium. Among them, the Prime version, priced at RM109,800, offering an official range of 410km, and standard L2 level assisted driving across the lineup, has become the focus for many budget-conscious buyers seeking practicality. The main purpose of this test drive is to verify whether its static experience is comfortable enough for daily use, whether its dynamic performance meets the needs of family users, and whether its range can match the official figures.

In terms of appearance, the e.Mas 7 Prime adopts a simple yet elegant design approach, aligning with the robust positioning of D-segment vehicles. The front features a closed front grille paired with a through-type LED daytime running light, offering decent recognition when illuminated. The air intake design on the lower bumper is simple, without excess complicated lines. The side profile features smooth lines, with a waistline extending from the front to the rear, making the body appear more elongated. The 18-inch multi-spoke wheels, combined with 225/55 R18 tires, strike a visually balanced proportion. At the rear, the smoked LED taillights echo the daytime running lights at the front, and a silver protective panel under the rear bumper adds a touch of crossover style, yet the overall design remains understated and visually appealing.

Inside the car, the interior of the e.Mas 7 Prime features a dark color scheme, with the dashboard covered in soft-touch materials. The texture may not be exceptionally refined, but it is acceptable for this price range. The 15.4-inch floating central control screen serves as the visual focal point. Its resolution reaches 2.5K, delivering clear display quality and smooth operation, and it supports both CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The instrument panel is a 10.2-inch LCD screen, capable of displaying range, speed, driving assistance status, and other information in an intuitive layout. In terms of configurations, the front seats support 6-way electric adjustment, enabling the driver to quickly find a comfortable seating position. The rear row is equipped with independent air conditioning vents and USB charging ports, offering convenience for daily use. As for space performance, the 4615mm length and 2750mm wheelbase provide ample rear legroom, with approximately two fist-widths of space for a 175cm-tall passenger sitting in the back. The 461L trunk capacity can accommodate two 28-inch suitcases with room to spare, making it suitable for short family trips.

In terms of power, the e.Mas 7 Prime is equipped with a front-mounted single motor, with a maximum power of 160kW (218PS) and a peak torque of 320N·m, accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in an official 6.9 seconds. During actual driving, the initial response is quick, and a light press on the accelerator delivers noticeable push-back acceleration, making mid-to-low-speed overtakes very effortless. It offers three driving modes: Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Eco mode, power output is more restrained, suitable for daily commuting; while in Sport mode, the throttle sensitivity is increased, ideal for scenarios requiring rapid acceleration. The chassis features a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned towards comfort. When crossing speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension absorbs most vibrations, preventing any noticeable stiffness. During cornering, body roll is well-controlled, ensuring passengers won't feel significant swaying. Steering wheel weight is moderate with minimal dead zones, making it easy to handle during daily driving.

During the range test, we drove half the distance on urban roads and the other half on highways, with the air conditioning set to 24℃ throughout the trip and the driving mode set to standard. The official range is 410 km, but the actual distance traveled was 372 km before the battery was depleted, achieving approximately 90.7% of the claimed range, which is fairly realistic. As for fast charging, it only takes 0.3 hours (18 minutes) to charge from 30% to 80%, making emergency recharging for daily use very convenient. Slow charging takes 4.9 hours, which is suitable for overnight home charging. In terms of noise control, the motor noise during low-speed driving is minimal; on highways, tire noise becomes slightly more noticeable but does not affect in-car conversation, maintaining an average level among electric vehicles of the same class. The energy recovery system is adjustable in three levels, and the highest level of drag is not too strong, so passengers won’t feel uncomfortable. This setup is suitable for daily use.

Overall, the core advantages of the e.Mas 7 Prime lie in its value for money and features. Compared with other electric vehicles in the same class, it offers a price of less than RM110,000 and comes standard with six airbags, Level 2 driving assistance (including ACC, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, etc.), a 360-degree panoramic camera, and a 15.4-inch screen, with a level of configuration surpassing some higher-priced models. Additionally, the space performance meets the needs of family users, the range reliability is stable, the fast charging speed is impressive, and it is highly convenient for daily use. However, it also has some minor drawbacks, such as average interior material quality and slightly noticeable tire noise at high speeds.

On the whole, the e.Mas 7 Prime is suitable for family users who value practicality and cost-effectiveness, especially for those who need an electric vehicle as their primary vehicle for daily commuting and family outings. With comprehensive configurations, spacious interiors, reliable range, and balanced capabilities for daily use, it is a great option. If you have a limited budget but want an electric D-segment vehicle with decent features, the e.Mas 7 Prime is a worthy choice to consider.

Pros
Comprehensive and practical safety configuration, multiple accident avoidance with active braking and lane-keeping assist, strong sense of security.
Excellent interior texture, 15.4-inch 2.5K central control screen is smooth and clear, Flyme sound system offers good audio quality.
Outstanding power performance, fast and smooth acceleration, suitable for urban overtaking and climbing, convenient single-pedal mode.
Cons
The seat has some shortcomings, such as the leather being stuffy or hard, making long-distance rides tiresome, and some models having poor lumbar support.
Storage space design is unreasonable, with a small passenger-side glove box that easily gets stuck when storing items, and practicality needs improvement.
Some function details have flaws, such as unsuitable lane change assist alerts, occasional radar false alarms, and lack of automatic parking.

As the owner of the 2024 Proton e.Mas 7 Premium and having driven in Malaysia for nearly three months, the two aspects I want to talk about the most are the interior and safety. Giving a 4-star rating for the interior is really fair—the overall quality is decent, the 15.4-inch 2.5K center console screen is super smooth for navigation and connecting CarPlay during local traffic jams, and the bass of the Flyme sound system is strong enough when listening to local Malaysian songs; plus, the panoramic sunroof is a great feature—parking halfway up Genting Highlands on weekends with my family and opening the sunshade to enjoy the mountain scenery is particularly pleasant. However, there are minor shortcomings: while the material of the front seats feels soft to the touch, sitting for a long time (like driving from Kuala Lumpur to Penang) can feel a bit stuffy, and the glove compartment on the front passenger side has a small opening, making it easy for phone charger cables to get stuck. When it comes to safety, it deserves a full score! Highways in Malaysia often have cars that change lanes abruptly, and this active safety system has truly saved me—last time on the North-South Expressway, the car in front suddenly braked hard, and my car immediately activated the automatic emergency braking system and stopped steadily, avoiding a collision; plus, the lane-change assist is great in busy alleyways near KLCC—when the indicator light on the side mirror flashes, I know there's a motorcycle nearby, which gives me an immense sense of security. Overall, the performance of these two aspects is really sufficient for someone like me who often travels with family!

As an owner of the 2024 Proton e.Mas 7 Premium who has been driving it in Malaysia for almost three months, the experience has been truly surprising! First of all, the exterior deserves full marks. The sleek body coupled with Proton's signature "Infinite Weave" front grille catches everyone's attention, especially under the sunlight in KL. Every time I park along Jalan Bukit Bintang, people turn their heads to look. In terms of performance, the 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.1 seconds is super satisfying when overtaking on Penang's mountain roads. The torque of the electric motor is excellent, making uphill drives effortless. However, after hitting 160km/h on the highway, the acceleration feels a bit soft, but it's totally sufficient for daily use. The interior has a nice quality feel. The 15.4-inch central control screen boasts high clarity, and the Flyme sound system makes listening to music during traffic jams a real pleasure. However, the leather seats can be a bit stifling in summer. Safety features are very comprehensive; last time on the Selangor highway, the ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) helped me avoid a rear-end collision. The 360-degree camera is also super handy in Kuala Lumpur's narrow parking lots. The only regret is that the automatic emergency braking occasionally misjudges situations. Overall, being able to buy such an EV at this price is absolutely worth it. Highly recommended for friends in Malaysia who are thinking about switching to an electric vehicle!

As the owner of the 2024 Proton e.Mas 7 Premium for nearly two months, the interior and safety are the two points I’m most satisfied with! The interior really exceeded expectations. The 15.4-inch 2.5K central control screen is very clear and doesn’t reflect light even under the blazing Malaysian sun. For complicated roads like Jalan Bukit Bintang, navigation is particularly convenient. The Flyme 16-speaker sound system is incredible when stuck in traffic; playing the Malaysian song "Raya Raya" delivers impeccable sound quality, and even family members in the backseat praised it for being like a small concert. The seats are electrically adjustable, and when driving two hours of mountain roads to Genting Highlands, my back didn’t feel sore. The leather feels very delicate and doesn’t have that pungent smell some new cars have. It also comes with an air purifier, ensuring clean air even on occasional hazy days in Kuala Lumpur. Safety is even more reassuring. There are many motorbikes in Malaysia, and they often dart out unexpectedly. The automatic braking system has been triggered twice, both times stopping in time to avoid scrapes. Last week on the North-South Expressway using ACC cruise control, the lane departure warning beeped to remind me. Plus, with the 360-degree cameras, I wasn’t worried about scraping motorbikes while parking. With six airbags and vehicle stability control, when taking my family to Penang and crossing the sea bridge, the car remained stable even in side winds, providing a maximum sense of safety! In summary, these two aspects are truly impeccable and deserve full marks!

As the owner of the 2024 Proton e.Mas 7 Premium, my driving experience in Malaysia has been quite pleasant! In terms of appearance, I give it a full score of 5. The design of this car is really eye-catching, with a sleek body, LED headlights, and taillights. It stands out on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, especially at night when lit up, with particularly strong recognition. For the interior, I give it 4 points. The overall craftsmanship and materials are very solid. The 15.4-inch central control screen operates smoothly, and the Flyme audio system has excellent sound quality. However, the slight downside is that the front seats' wrapping could be better, as driving long distances on highways (for example, from Kuala Lumpur to Penang) can become a bit tiring. Additionally, the position of the rear air conditioning vents is slightly low, which is not particularly convenient for rear passengers. Overall, this car performs very well on Malaysian roads, especially with its pure electric range of 470 kilometers, which fully meets my daily commuting and weekend travel needs.

As the owner of a 2024 Proton e.Mas 7 Premium, after three months of driving in Malaysia, I’m quite satisfied with the safety and interior experiences! Giving a score of 4 for safety seems fair. In Malaysia, sudden road conditions are common — like motorcycles darting onto the highway or slippery roads during rainy days that make it hard to brake. I once encountered an emergency stop on the North-South Expressway; the car’s automatic braking system intervened and brought me to a safe stop, which really gave me a scare! When driving on urban expressways, the lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist are very responsive. Together with the 6 airbags, it gives a strong sense of safety. However, there was one instance on a rural road where the radar mistakenly detected roadside weeds a few times, but this minor flaw doesn’t affect the overall reliability, which is still very dependable. I’d also rate the interior a 4. The 15.4-inch display doesn’t reflect sunlight even under Malaysia’s intense sun, and the Flyme sound system makes listening to Malay songs super enjoyable! The seats are electrically adjustable, and even after driving an hour to and from work every day, the lumbar support feels perfect and doesn’t cause any fatigue. On weekends, opening the panoramic sunroof for my family to enjoy the scenery en route to Genting Highlands is especially pleasant. The only minor downside is that the glove box on the passenger side is a bit small, so it can’t fit a large phone holder. However, the overall material quality and design feel premium, much better than Japanese cars in the same price range!
