Specs

In Malaysia's business vehicle market, the demand for 10-seater luxury MPVs has remained consistently strong. Corporate clients need models that balance brand reliability and passenger comfort, while family users prefer spacious options for group travel. The 2024 Toyota HIACE SLWB, as a popular contender in this segment, enters the market with reliable diesel power output, the spacious benefits of an extended wheelbase, and targeted configuration upgrades. Our core objective during this test drive is to evaluate its actual performance in daily business receptions and long-distance family travel scenarios to determine if it truly lives up to its "Luxury" positioning.

From an exterior standpoint, the 2024 HIACE SLWB maintains the classic square design of Toyota MPVs, with simple and clean lines devoid of overly intricate designs. The front features a large trapezoidal grille, accented with chrome trims, connected to the halogen headlights on either side. While it doesn't adopt the sharp designs currently in trend, it exudes a strong business feel with high recognition. The extended wheelbase (3860mm) on the side of the vehicle is a standout feature, with a straight waistline running from the front to the rear end. The sliding side door design makes it convenient for rear passengers to get in and out—especially practical for a 10-seater model. The rear portion maintains a minimalist style, with vertically arranged tail lights and rear fog lights, coupled with the square tailgate design, embodying the steady demeanor of a business MPV. In terms of lighting, the standard daytime running lights and front and rear fog lights provide decent visibility under Malaysia's variable weather conditions.

Opening the door to enter the interior, the overall style leans towards functionalism, with a dark interior paired with silver trims. The materials primarily consist of hard plastic, but the joints and finishes are relatively well-executed. The central control layout is clear, with the 7-inch central touchscreen positioned centrally. Although the screen is not very large, its operation is simple and easy to use. The front seats feature 6-way manual adjustment, allowing the driver to quickly find a comfortable position; the front passenger and second-row seats offer 4-way adjustment. The rear seats are equipped with adjustable backrests and headrests, ensuring that every passenger in the 10-seat layout has independent headroom. As for features, the multi-functional steering wheel, MID multi-functional dashboard, and 220V/230V power outlets are all standard equipment, particularly the rear-seat power outlets, which are highly convenient for business passengers working on the go or family users charging their devices. However, the front air conditioning is manually adjustable, and there are only two speakers, leaving some room for improvement in terms of luxury details.

Space is one of the core strengths of the HIACE SLWB. With a length of 5915mm and a wheelbase of 3860mm, the 10-seat layout ensures that each row offers sufficient legroom for adult passengers—passengers who are 175cm tall can sit in the last row with about a fist's width of space between their knees and the seat in front. In terms of storage, the front door panels are equipped with cup holders and storage slots, and there is a small storage compartment below the center console. Even with all 10 seats occupied, the trunk can still accommodate three 20-inch suitcases, and folding down the last row of seats allows for further expansion of the storage space.

In terms of power, the 2.8T diesel engine provides a maximum power of 177PS and a maximum torque of 450N·m, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. During daily driving, power output is smooth during start-up, without the typical "jerkiness" often associated with diesel vehicles. Upon acceleration to 60 km/h, the torque becomes more apparent, and stepping hard on the accelerator during overtaking sees the transmission shift gears responsively with smooth power transition. However, when fully loaded with 10 passengers and luggage, sufficient distance needs to be reserved for highway overtaking. The standard driving mode is adequate for city roads and highways, with light steering that makes it easy to handle, even for female drivers.

The chassis part adopts MacPherson independent suspension for both the front and rear. When driving on flat urban roads, the vehicle body stability is good; when passing speed bumps or bumpy roads, the suspension can filter out most of the minor vibrations, but rear passengers can still feel slight jolts. At high speeds, wind noise and diesel engine noise are within acceptable limits, but when the speed exceeds 100km/h, wind noise slightly increases. Regarding fuel consumption, the measured fuel consumption under mixed road conditions is about 9.5L/100km, which is slightly higher than the official figure of 8.2L, but considering the vehicle weight and fully loaded scenarios, this result is still reasonable. The braking system features front and rear ventilated discs, with a linear braking response, and the vehicle maintains a stable posture during emergency braking.

In conclusion, the core advantages of the 2024 Toyota HIACE SLWB lie in its spacious 10-seat capacity, stable diesel power output, and practical business configurations. Compared to competitors in the same class (such as the Nissan NV350), its brand reliability and resale value are more competitive. However, in terms of interior luxury details and entertainment configurations, it is not as strong as some emerging MPV players. This vehicle is more suitable for corporate business receptions, large families frequently traveling with multiple people, or individual operators needing to handle both passenger and light cargo transport. Overall, the HIACE SLWB is a "practical" MPV. It does not feature fancy designs, but it meets the core needs of its target users in terms of space, power, and reliability.

Pros
Seats are comfortable, front row has 6-way adjustment, rear row can recline with headrests, comfortable for long-distance rides
2.8T diesel engine is powerful, excellent low torque, confident in climbing and overtaking, fuel-efficient
Interior is practical with rich features, central control screen is easy to operate, 220V power outlet is convenient for camping or charging
Cons
The interior has an obvious plastic feel, with limited soft-touch materials in the door panels and lower dashboard areas, resulting in average texture.
The number of airbags is low, with only 3 present, lacking side airbags. Users hope to increase this to enhance safety.
When driving at high speed with a full load, the power feels slightly underwhelming, and acceleration is slow, requiring early downshifting, which affects the experience.

Owner of 2024 Toyota HIACE SLWB
As the owner of the 2024 Toyota HIACE SLWB, I’ve been driving it in Malaysia for nearly half a year, and the two points I’d love to discuss most are the interior and performance. Let’s talk about the interior first. Giving it a score of 4 because the overall performance is indeed commendable, but there are some minor regrets in the details. As a Luxury-level model, the comfort of the seats is beyond reproach—front row with 6-way adjustment, rear row with reclining seats that have headrests. Every time I take my family on long trips to Genting or Penang, everyone praises how comfortable it is. The 7-inch touchscreen is also very user-friendly, and the 220V power socket is a life-saver during camping trips, capable of powering an electric kettle and a mini fridge. However, the plastic feel of the interior is still a bit noticeable, especially in the door panels and the area under the center console. The texture is average when touched, and it would have been perfect if more soft materials were added. Now let’s talk about the performance—this deserves a full score! The 2.8T diesel engine paired with the 6AT gearbox is simply an unbeatable combination on Malaysian roads. Whether during rush hours in Kuala Lumpur, where the low-end torque performs exceptionally well, or during self-driving trips on the hilly roads of Sabah, the 450N·m torque provides abundant reserves, delivering instant power for climbing slopes and confident overtaking. The most surprising aspect is the fuel consumption—the official figure is 8.2L/100km, and in my actual driving experience, it’s about 9L. For such a large vehicle, that’s really fuel-efficient. With a full 70L fuel tank, it can run over 700 kilometers, which is much more efficient than my friends' vehicles in the same class. Moreover, the suspension tuning is also very balanced; it absorbs shock well over speed bumps and uneven roads without being too bumpy, while still remaining very stable at high speeds. Overall, while the HIACE SLWB’s interior has minor areas for improvement, its overall practicality and comfort are strong enough. In terms of performance, it far exceeds expectations, making it effortlessly handle both daily commutes and long-distance trips. It’s truly well-suited for use in Malaysia!

As the owner of the 2024 Toyota HIACE SLWB, having driven it in Malaysia for almost half a year, let me start with safety. I often travel on highways from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru, and sometimes encounter small cars suddenly changing lanes. The Vehicle Stability Control reacts quickly, keeping the vehicle steady without much wobbling. Although there are only 3 airbags, the basics like driver and passenger airbags are included, and with the standard ABS, it provides enough confidence to handle Malaysia's rainy and slippery federal roads—I'd rate it 4 stars because it would be perfect with two additional side airbags. Now about the interior, as a Luxury-grade 10-seater, the 6-way adjustable front seats are comfortable for long drives without causing back pain, and the rear seats can recline with headrests, allowing elderly and children to lie back and rest when taking family trips to Genting Highlands. This is quite considerate. The 7-inch central touchscreen is simple to operate, and in Malaysia's tropical climate, the manual air conditioning cools down quickly. While there are slightly more plastic components, the texture doesn't feel cheap and the overall practicality is quite good—4 stars would be fair, and adding a leather steering wheel would bring a more premium touch!

As the owner of the 2024 Toyota HIACE SLWB and having driven it in Malaysia for three months, I truly feel like I made the right choice! First of all, the performance deserves full marks — the 2.8T diesel engine works smoothly during the morning rush hour in Kuala Lumpur when starting and following traffic, and the 6AT gearbox shifts effortlessly; on weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands, the 450N·m torque handles uphill drives with ease, even when fully loaded with 10 people, it didn’t feel sluggish. The fuel consumption of 8.2L/100km is considered economical given Malaysia's fuel prices. I’m also very satisfied with the interior, especially since it’s the luxury version. The front row has a 6-way adjustable seat that keeps me from feeling back pain on long journeys, and the rear seats can recline and come with headrests, making it comfortable for both elderly family members and children in the back. The 7-inch central screen is simple to operate, the 220V power supply is very convenient for charging laptops at rest stops, and the MID dashboard displays information clearly enough. I’d rate safety at 4 points. It comes standard with ABS and vehicle stability control, and it feels stable when driving on the highway, but there are only 3 airbags. If there were 2 more side airbags, it would feel even safer. As for the exterior, it has the typical boxy HIACE design. While it’s not exactly stunning, it has great recognizability, making it easy to spot in the Klang Valley traffic — 4 points seem just right. All in all, this car is very practical on Malaysian roads, whether it’s for daily commuting or family outings, offering great value for money!

As the owner of the 2024 Toyota HIACE SLWB, after driving it for almost half a year in Malaysia, I am overall quite satisfied. In terms of appearance, although it's not a stunning design, the boxy shape fits well with its luxurious MPV positioning. Especially the chrome trim on the front, it looks very stable. Whether it's picking up clients or taking the family out for a trip, it feels quite prestigious. In terms of interior, the materials and craftsmanship are pretty good. The layout of the center console is very reasonable and convenient to operate, and the multifunctional steering wheel is very practical. The seat comfort is also commendable: the front row is adjustable in 6 ways, the rear row can recline, and there are headrests, so long-distance rides don't feel tiring. However, the central control screen is only 7 inches. If it were a bit larger, that would be even better. In terms of safety performance, it comes standard with ABS anti-lock brakes, vehicle stability control, and three airbags. These configurations are very practical on Malaysian roads. After all, traffic in Malaysia can be quite chaotic at times, and having these safety features gives me greater peace of mind. However, it would be perfect if there were more airbags. Overall, the 2024 Toyota HIACE SLWB performs well in appearance, interior, and safety. Although there are some small areas for improvement, it is still very much worth recommending.

Owner of 2024 Toyota HIACE SLWB
As the owner of the 2024 Toyota HIACE SLWB, after three months of driving in Malaysia, what I’m most satisfied with is its safety performance! Last month, an emergency situation occurred on the LDP highway in Selangor. The car in front suddenly braked, and I slammed on the brakes as well. The ABS and vehicle stability system reacted super quickly, and the vehicle stopped steadily without veering off course. At that time, there were five colleagues in the car with me; thinking about it now still gives me chills — this safety feature is truly not just for show and absolutely deserves a 5-star rating! As for performance, I’d give it 4 stars. After all, it’s a 10-seater diesel vehicle with a 2.8T turbo and a 6AT gearbox. Its acceleration in Kuala Lumpur city traffic jams isn’t particularly fast, but once on the North-South Expressway, it feels solid and confident when overtaking. The 450N·m of torque pulls the fully loaded vehicle effortlessly. However, when climbing long slopes up to Genting Highlands with a full load, the power reserve does feel slightly weaker compared to smaller cars, and it requires a preemptive downshift. But considering its design and weight, this performance is already more than sufficient. Whether for daily long-distance drives or carrying family and friends, it’s incredibly reliable!
