In Malaysia's sports car market, the two-door convertible sports car has always been a niche but highly appealing segment. The 2013 Jaguar F-Type Convertible, as Jaguar's representative model marking its return to the traditional sports car market, has drawn considerable attention since its launch due to its pure driving pleasure and classic British design. This time, we got our hands on the actual car for an in-depth test, with the core aim of evaluating whether this classic sports car from ten years ago can still meet consumers' dual demands for sportiness and style today.

In terms of appearance, the design of the 2013 F-Type Convertible revolves entirely around its "sports car" positioning. The front utilizes Jaguar's signature large-sized honeycomb grille, complemented by sharp LED headlights on both sides, creating a striking visual impact. The body side lines are sleek, with a waistline stretching from the hood to the rear, highlighting a muscular feel. The 19-inch alloy wheels paired with performance tires further enhance its sporty characteristics. At the rear, the dual round exhaust tips on either side are typical of performance cars, and the LED taillights adopt a wrap-around design, offering high recognition when illuminated. The soft-top convertible structure can be operated at speeds below 50km/h, completing the opening or closing process within 12 seconds. Once folded, it is fully stored in the rear storage compartment, maintaining an overall aesthetic appeal.

Sitting inside, the sporty atmosphere of the interior is immediately apparent. The center console is designed towards the driver, making operations convenient. The seats are made of genuine leather and offer excellent support, sufficient for spirited driving. The top of the center console houses a 7-inch touch screen, supporting navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and other functions, with clear operational logic. The air conditioning control area retains physical buttons, and the rotary knobs have a good damping feel, being quite convenient for daily use. The steering wheel features a three-spoke design, with a moderate size and comfortable grip. The left side also incorporates quick-access buttons for volume adjustment, phone answering, and other controls.

As a two-door sports car, the space performance of the 2013 F-Type Convertible meets expectations. The vehicle dimensions measure 4470×1884×1304mm, with a wheelbase of 2622mm. The front seating space is spacious, allowing a 180cm tall passenger to have ample headroom and legroom. The rear space is virtually negligible, suitable for only small items. In terms of storage space, the center armrest console and door storage slots at the front offer limited capacity but are sufficient for holding a phone, wallet, and other personal items. The trunk has a capacity of 315L with the roof closed, which reduces to 207L when open. It's enough to fit two carry-on suitcases, meeting the needs for short trips.

In terms of performance, the test car is equipped with a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine, delivering a maximum power of 340 hp and peak torque of 450 Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The throttle response is quick during takeoff, and a slight press of the pedal provides a noticeable push-back feeling, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of about 5.3 seconds. When switched to sports mode, the transmission's shift logic becomes more aggressive, with quicker downshifts, and the engine's roar becomes deeper. For daily driving, gear shifts are smooth, with almost no noticeable jolts.

The handling performance is a highlight of this car. The steering is precise with minimal play, and you can clearly feel the road feedback when turning the wheel. The suspension system is tuned on the stiffer side, providing strong body support and maintaining excellent control over body roll during cornering, giving the driver ample confidence. When dealing with bumpy roads, the suspension quickly absorbs minor vibrations, but larger bumps can still result in noticeable jolts inside the cabin, which is a common characteristic of sporty cars.

In terms of fuel consumption, our tests in mixed road conditions show that the fuel consumption is approximately 10.5L per 100 kilometers. In congested urban areas, it rises to around 13L, while during highway cruising, it drops to about 8L. For a 3.0T supercharged sports car, this performance is quite standard. The braking performance is excellent, with a linear pedal feel and evenly distributed braking force. During emergency braking, the car's posture remains stable without noticeable nose-diving.

In terms of driving comfort, when the convertible top is closed, the interior noise isolation is quite good. At high speeds, wind noise and tire noise are kept within an acceptable range. When the convertible top is open, wind noise increases significantly, but at speeds below 100 km/h, adjusting the wind deflectors on the seat headrests effectively reduces airflow disruption to the head. The seat comfort is also commendable, allowing for long drives without fatigue. The adjustable lumbar support caters to passengers of different body types.

Overall, the core strengths of the 2013 Jaguar F-Type Convertible lie in its pure driving pleasure and classic British design. Compared to its class competitor, the Porsche Boxster, it offers stronger performance parameters and is relatively more affordable. Compared to the Mercedes SLK, its handling performance is more aggressive, making it more appealing to driving enthusiasts. This car is suitable for consumers who seek an engaging driving experience and value the style of their vehicle, particularly those who enjoy the fun of convertible driving, whether they are young individuals or seasoned car enthusiasts. As a classic sports car from ten years ago, it still holds up well today. Whether for daily commutes or weekend getaways, it provides a great experience. If you're looking for a convertible sports car with both style and driving pleasure, the 2013 F-Type Convertible is worth considering.

Pros
The safety configuration is excellent, the active braking and ESP intervention are timely, and the body stability is good.
The interior feels premium, with exquisite leather and metal trim, while seat heating enhances comfort.
The engine sound is pleasant, and open-top driving provides a passionate and enjoyable experience with high attention from onlookers.
Cons
Soft-top roofs are noisy at high speeds and during heavy rain, with closure lines less smooth compared to hard tops.
Seams of soft-tops are prone to leaking during heavy rain, and the workmanship doesn't hold up well against extreme weather conditions.
The low seating position can cause leg discomfort during traffic jams, and large-displacement models have higher fuel consumption.

Last Wednesday after work, I encountered heavy rain and was stuck in traffic for half an hour on the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road while driving the F-Type. The rain pounding on the soft top was a bit noisy, but the heated seats and Meridian sound system made me less irritable. Suddenly, the car in front braked sharply, and the autonomous braking system intervened just in time to avoid a collision. The leather and metal trim in the interior feel great, although the soft top generates some wind noise at high speeds. The exterior design has a high head-turning rate, but the lines aren't as smooth as the hardtop when the soft top is closed. Overall, the safety and interior get full marks, but the exterior loses one point.

When driving on mountain roads with the top down, the roar of the engine mixes with the wind and drills into your ears, making you feel like you're floating!

Last Wednesday after work, I encountered heavy rain and was crawling slowly on a mountain road in Kuala Lumpur with the F-Type. I closed the convertible top quickly, but a little water still seeped through the leather seat seams — the interior craftsmanship is exquisite, but these details can't withstand Southeast Asia's torrential rain (4 points not undeserved). However, in the heavy rain, the car stayed as stable as if it were glued to the ground, and the ESP intervened timely during cornering, providing solid confidence in safety (4 points well-deserved). While waiting at a red light with the wipers going, a motorcyclist nearby turned to stare at my car badge. The sleek lines of this British sports car command attention, even in a rainstorm (5 points justified).

When stopping at a red light with the top down, the motorbike guy next to me leaned over and shouted, "Nice car!" Instantly felt that the attention it gets is totally worth it!

Previously, I drove an ordinary family car and always felt it lacked some excitement, until I came across this F-Type convertible. On weekends in Malaysia, driving it along the east coast with the top down, the sea breeze mixed with the roar of the engine — that feeling was simply unparalleled! The exterior turns heads wherever it goes, and the interior feels very premium. However, dealing with rush hour traffic can be a bit of a pain; the low seating position coupled with the traffic jams almost made my legs go numb. There's also the fuel consumption — it's a large-displacement engine, after all, so you need to go easy on the accelerator. But overall, the joy this car brings me far outweighs those minor flaws. Totally worth it!
