There are two driving modes to choose from, Normal and Sport. Handling performance is a strong suit of the Mazda 3, with precise steering and minimal play, giving the driver ample confidence when cornering. The suspension system is tuned towards sportiness while also taking comfort into consideration. It filters out most of the fine vibrations when driving over speed bumps or bumpy roads, ensuring the body remains stable without noticeable shaking. The chassis offers excellent stability at high speeds, and body roll is well-controlled during lane changes. The brake pedal feels linear, and the braking distance is among the top in its class.

In our actual test, the fuel consumption was about 7.5L/100km under urban road conditions, while on highways, it dropped to 5.8L/100km. This performance is considered fuel-efficient for a 2.0L engine. Regarding noise control, wind and tire noise become slightly more noticeable at high speeds, but they remain within an acceptable range. Engine noise can be heard inside the cabin when the RPM exceeds 3000, but it is not intrusive. The seats offer good support and cushioning, ensuring comfort even during long drives.

The previously owned Japanese sedan was as sluggish as a "turtle pace". After trying out the Civic, it felt too flashy, so I finally chose this Mazda 3—after all, the Kodo design speaks for itself. The red hatchback parked in the KLCC parking lot turned heads like crazy. During the Jalan Ampang morning traffic jam, the 2.0L naturally aspirated engine paired with the 6AT was as smooth as drinking white coffee; but when accelerating hard, it lacked a bit of push-back feeling (deducting 1 point is fair). Last week, I took my family to Genting Highlands, and the HUD heads-up display saved me from looking down at the navigation. The 7 airbags plus active braking made my wife feel at ease; the rear air conditioning was cool enough, but fitting three suitcases in the trunk was a bit tight. The biggest surprise was that cruising at 120km/h on the highway felt steady as a rock, with fuel consumption at only 6.5L, even lower than the official rating! The only downside: the thin 18-inch tires require slowing down over speed bumps, or else it feels as bumpy as a “bouncing car.”

Last Saturday, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. Just as we started on the winding mountain road, there was a heavy downpour. The 2.0 NA engine delivered power as soon as I stepped on the accelerator. The car body was very stable when cornering, and the 18-inch tires provided enough grip with no slipping. The HUD displayed the speed and navigation, so there was no need to lower my head to look at the screen. The memory seats helped me quickly adjust to a comfortable position. The kid in the back was clamoring for air conditioning, and the dual-zone temperature control came in handy. The only drawbacks were a slightly excessive use of plastic parts in the interior and somewhat loud tire noise at high speeds, but overall, I’m satisfied. The comprehensive safety features put my mind at ease while driving in the rain.

Last Saturday, I took my wife and kids to the orchard at the foot of Yunding Mountain. The rain-sensing wipers were quite handy in the morning rain. The 2.0 naturally aspirated engine provided power as needed when climbing the mountain. Body roll was well-controlled during cornering, and the 18-inch tires had sufficient grip. The HUD and electric seat memory were very useful in the interior, but the rear space felt a bit cramped when fully loaded. The central control screen can only be operated by touch and lacks a rotary dial, which is a bit inconvenient. The exterior's Kodo design is indeed pleasing to the eye, and it garnered a decent number of second glances on the road. Overall, I’d give full marks for performance, deduct one point each for the interior and exterior, but it's definitely sufficient for daily family use.
