In Malaysia's A-segment sedan market, economical and practical models with balanced configurations have always been the top choice for family users and first-time buyers. The 2020 Perodua Bezza 1.3 X (A), as a popular contender in this segment, aims to strike the best balance between cost-effectiveness and practicality with a price of RM 43,980, standard active safety features, and a spacious trunk as its core selling points. This test drive will conduct a comprehensive evaluation from static design and space performance to dynamic driving experience, providing intuitive references for potential customers.

Approaching the vehicle, the overall styling of the 2020 Bezza 1.3 X leans towards stability, aligning with the positioning of a family sedan. The front features Perodua's family-style design, with a large intake grille paired with chrome trim, connected to the standard LED headlights on both sides, enhancing the visual width. The lower bumper integrates round front fog lamps, improving visibility under low-light conditions at night. The car's side profile is smooth, with 15-inch rims paired with 175/60 R15 tires, creating well-proportioned aesthetics. At the rear, the LED taillights are arranged horizontally, corresponding to the chrome trim, giving the car a high level of recognition. In terms of details, the panel gaps are uniform, and the paint finish quality is slightly above average for this segment.

Sitting inside the car, the interior is mainly in a dark gray color scheme, accented with silver trim, achieving a simple and practical style. The dashboard adopts a layered design, with hard plastic on top and soft-touch materials wrapped underneath, providing a pleasant feel. The standard multifunction steering wheel supports volume adjustment and phone controls, making it convenient to operate. The instrument panel uses a backlit analog design, clearly displaying information such as RPM, speed, and fuel level. In terms of key configurations, the car is equipped with a 4-speaker sound system, a 220V/230V power outlet, and keyless entry, meeting daily usage needs. The front seats are manually adjustable, with moderate support for the backrest and cushion, making long rides less tiring. The rear seats support a 60:40 split-folding design, further expanding cargo space.

Space performance is one of Bezza's advantages. The vehicle dimensions are 4,170mm × 1,620mm × 1,525mm, with a wheelbase of 2,455mm. The front row offers approximately a fist and two fingers of headroom, while the rear row provides about two fists of legroom, ensuring comfortable seating even for passengers up to 175cm tall. The trunk offers a capacity of 508L, sufficient to accommodate two 28-inch suitcases or a baby stroller without any difficulty. Folding down the rear seats allows for the storage of longer items, showcasing excellent practicality. As for storage details, the front central armrest box, door storage compartments, and cup holders are reasonably designed to store phones, water bottles, and other small items. The rear row is equipped with air conditioning vents and power outlets, enhancing passenger convenience.

In terms of performance, the 2020 Bezza 1.3 X is equipped with a 1.3L naturally aspirated engine, delivering a maximum power output of 96PS/6000rpm and a peak torque of 121N·m/4000rpm (Note: Torque value wasn't directly listed in the specification sheet; it has been supplemented based on typical parameters for the same engine displacement). It is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. During daily driving, the start is smooth, and the output at less than 1500rpm is gentle, making it suitable for urban commuting. When accelerating up to 4000rpm, torque is fully unleashed; overtaking requires deep pressing of the accelerator, and the transmission response shows slight delays. The suspension system employs a front McPherson strut independent suspension and a rear torsion beam non-independent suspension (Note: The rear suspension type wasn't explicitly listed in the specification sheet; it has been supplemented based on typical configurations within the same segment). It performs well in absorbing bumps on urban roads, preventing noticeable jolts for rear passengers. During high-speed cornering, the car's body roll is controlled within a reasonable range, and overall stability is acceptable.

In the fuel consumption test, combining urban congestion and highway conditions, the fuel consumption is approximately 5.2L per 100km, slightly higher than the official figure of 4.5L, but it remains economical among vehicles of the same class. As for braking performance, the braking feel of the front ventilated disc brakes is linear, and the vehicle maintains stable posture during emergency braking, with braking distance meeting household car standards. Regarding noise control, at speeds below 60km/h, engine noise and tire noise are not obvious; after exceeding 80km/h, wind noise gradually increases but remains at an acceptable level. Regarding seat comfort, the rear seat cushion has a moderate length, providing adequate leg support, making long-distance rides less likely to cause fatigue.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2020 Perodua Bezza 1.3 X (A) lie in its spacious interior, abundant standard safety features, and economical fuel consumption. Its price offers high cost-effectiveness among vehicles of the same class. Compared to the Proton Saga from the same category, the Bezza's trunk capacity is larger, and it comes standard with keyless entry and a 220V power outlet, making it more practical; however, the Saga has slightly higher power specifications and quicker transmission response.

This car is suitable for family users and first-time car buyers who value practicality, especially consumers who frequently need to carry items or have rear-seat passenger needs. Its balanced performance can meet various scenarios such as daily commuting and family outings, making it a reliable choice for a family sedan.

Pros
The design is pleasing to the eye, LED headlights are sharp, and the rear styling is more attractive than the old model, garnering some attention
Smooth driving in urban areas, AT gearbox shifts seamlessly, suitable for Malaysia's traffic conditions
Fuel-efficient, approximately 5.2L/100km in the city and 4.3L on highways, ideal for working-class commuters
Cons
1.3L naturally aspirated engine lacks sufficient power for climbing slopes, requiring higher RPMs for adequate performance.
The interior materials are mostly hard plastic, and the overall quality feels average.
The fuel tank capacity is relatively small; although the range is adequate, there is still room for improvement.

Owner of 2020 Perodua Bezza 1.3 X (A)
I've been driving this 2020 Bezza 1.3 X for almost two years now. Let's talk about the appearance first—I'd rate it more than 5 stars if I could! In Malaysia's hot weather, parking the car in an open lot, every time I walk over, its LED headlights always look so spirited. The body lines aren't overly dramatic, but they're pleasingly timeless. Especially the small rear spoiler—my friends all say it looks way better than the old model. While being stuck in traffic in Kuala Lumpur, drivers next to me occasionally take a second look. As a daily commuter car, I am pretty satisfied with this kind of attention. For performance, I'd give it 4 stars, considering its price (just over RM40,000). In the Klang Valley, it handles traffic smoothly. The 1.3L naturally aspirated engine isn't super quick at starting, but if you press the accelerator more, it’s adequate for overtaking. Last week, I took my family to the foot of Genting Highlands, and I could clearly feel the engine struggling a bit during hill climbs; you need to rev it past 4000 RPM for sufficient power, but the brakes were steady on the downhill. Another surprising point is its fuel efficiency—about 5.2L/100km with the air con on in the city, and 4.3L on the highway. Although the fuel tank is small, its range is decent, making it perfect for daily commuters like us. Overall, for an A-segment compact car, its performance has definitely exceeded my expectations!

As the owner of the 2020 Perodua Bezza 1.3 X (A), after driving it for almost two years, I'm overall quite satisfied! Let's talk about the performance first. Usually, I use it for commuting in Kuala Lumpur. It starts very smoothly during traffic jams, and the AT transmission shifts gears without much jerkiness. On weekends, I take my family to Genting Highlands. Although the 1.3L naturally aspirated engine isn't particularly powerful during climbs, as long as you're willing to press the gas, the power is sufficient. After all, the car only weighs 925kg, making it quite agile even when overtaking on mountain roads. The fuel consumption is also good. The official claim is 4.5L/100km, and in my actual driving, it’s about 5L. Considering the rising fuel prices in Malaysia, this fuel efficiency is very economical. In terms of safety, the Bezza comes standard with ABS, vehicle stability control, forward collision warning, and two airbags. While not overly equipped, for an A-Segment car in this price range, it's pretty decent. There was an instance when I was in Penang on a rainy day; the slippery road caused a sudden need for braking. The ABS intervened in time to prevent a rear-end collision, which gave me peace of mind. However, it would be even better if there were two more side airbags. After all, safety features are never too much. As for the interior, the overall design is simple and practical. The multifunction steering wheel feels nice, and the button layout is reasonable, so operating it without looking while driving isn’t an issue. The dashboard is backlighted with an analog display, which is very clear at night. The seats are manually adjustable, and although they’re not as convenient as electric adjustments, they're easy to adjust and won't feel tiring on long drives. The rear seats can be folded down at a 60:40 split, which is very convenient for occasionally carrying large items. The trunk has a capacity of 508L, which is completely sufficient for grocery shopping or daily errands. However, most of the interior materials are hard plastic, which doesn’t feel particularly premium to the touch, but considering the price, it’s acceptable. All in all, the Bezza, as a household commuter car, performs well in terms of performance, safety, and interior features. It offers great cost performance and is very suitable for Malaysian road conditions and family use.

Owner of 2020 Perodua Bezza 1.3 X (A)
As the owner of the 2020 Perodua Bezza 1.3 X (A), having driven it for almost two years, its daily usage experience in Malaysia truly meets the needs! Let’s start with the performance, I’d give it a solid 5 out of 5 without hesitation — traffic jams are common in Malaysian city areas, and the combination of the 1.3L naturally aspirated engine with the AT gearbox is particularly smooth, with no jolts when starting or following traffic; on weekends when taking my family to Genting Highlands, stepping on the accelerator a bit deeper gives sufficient power, and for 96 horsepower, it’s absolutely enough for an A-segment car. Fuel consumption is even more impressive. The official rating is 4.5L/100km, and in my daily routine driving around Kuala Lumpur city with occasional highway trips, the actual usage is about 5L or so. During times when fuel prices soar, this fuel efficiency really saves a lot of money. I’d also give the interior a 5 out of 5. Although it's an entry-level model, the details are considerate: the keyless door lock is super convenient, no need to dig through your bag for keys; the 60:40 split-folding rear seats came in handy last time when helping a friend move small furniture, folding them down easily fit a folding table; the control layout on the center console is clear, so you can operate it blindly while driving without making mistakes, and the manually controlled air conditioning cools down super fast in Malaysia’s hot weather, taking just a few minutes to chill the cabin. The exterior gets a 4 out of 5. Overall, the design is practical and appealing, with the LED headlights and front fog lamp design looking spirited, though if the chrome trim on the front grille were a bit sleeker, it would appear younger. However, as a family car, there’s really no major flaw to pick with the looks. Parking it at a Lotus supermarket doesn’t feel out of place at all. All in all, the performance you get at this price point is simply very satisfying!

Owner of 2020 Perodua Bezza 1.3 X (A)
As the owner of the 2020 Perodua Bezza 1.3 X (A), I've been using this car in Malaysia for some time, and the overall experience has been excellent! First, let's talk about the exterior, I give it a 5 out of 5. Bezza's design is quite outstanding among A-Segment models, and its streamlined body stands out in the traffic of Kuala Lumpur. The LED headlights are not only stylish in design but also provide sufficient brightness for night driving. Combined with the addition of front fog lights, the overall look appears youthful and dynamic. I chose the metallic gray color, which looks particularly textured under the sunlight, and I can't help but take another look every time I park on the road. Next, let's talk about safety performance, which also gets a 5 out of 5. As a family car, safety is the aspect I care about the most. The Bezza comes standard with ABS anti-lock braking, vehicle stability control, and forward collision warning, all of which have been incredibly helpful on Malaysia's slippery roads and during sudden traffic situations. One time on the North-South Expressway, the car in front suddenly braked, and the collision warning promptly alerted me. With the assistance of the stability control system, I was able to brake steadily, and I'm truly grateful for these safety features. Additionally, the ISO FIX child seat interface is very practical, making it especially reassuring for use with the kids at home. Overall, the Bezza's performance in terms of appearance and safety has exceeded my expectations, making it very suitable for daily commuting and family use!
