The C-segment sedan market in Malaysia has become increasingly competitive in recent years. Consumers value fuel economy while also demanding higher standards for technology features and driving quality. The 2022 Honda Civic e:HEV 2.0L RS, being the brand's first hybrid Civic introduced locally, is marketed with "efficient power + sporty design + smart features" as its core selling points. Can it stand out in its class? This review will provide a comprehensive analysis of the car's performance, from static features to dynamic driving experience, offering potential buyers useful references.

In terms of appearance, the 2022 Civic e:HEV RS continues the coupe-style design of the 11th-generation Civic with sleek and low-slung lines. The front fascia features a large black honeycomb grille paired with sharp LED headlights. The daytime running lights are designed in an L-shape, providing high recognition. The side profile boasts lines flowing from the front fender to the rear, with a slightly upward waistline. The 18-inch black multi-spoke rims paired with 235/40ZR18 tires enhance its sporty appeal. At the rear, the RS version's exclusive small spoiler and dual chrome-plated exhaust decorations (hidden in actual design) improve its visual appeal, while the LED taillights adopt a through-type design, creating a striking effect when illuminated.

Regarding the interior, the design adopts a simple and symmetrical layout with the center console tilted slightly towards the driver for ease of operation. High-quality materials are used, with soft-touch finishes on the top of the dashboard and the inside of the door panels, while silver accents enhance the overall texture, matching expectations for vehicles in this price range. The center console is equipped with a 9-inch floating touch screen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity with smooth operation. The instrument panel is a fully digital display, and a standard HUD (head-up display) system shows speed, navigation, and other information, enhancing driving convenience. For comfort, the front row features 8-way power-adjustable seats, while the rear seats have 4-way manual adjustments and provide moderate support. The rear seats are split-foldable in a 60:40 ratio. Automatic climate control with rear air vents, a 220V/230V power outlet, and practical features like keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers, and electrically folding outside mirrors are all standard, making the car highly practical.

In terms of space performance, the overall dimensions are 4678mm in length, 1802mm in width, and 1415mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2735mm. The front row offers ample space, with a 175cm tall passenger having about a fist's worth of headroom after adjusting the seat. The rear row provides approximately two fists of legroom and four fingers of headroom, sufficient for daily family use. For storage, the front center armrest box and door storage compartments offer generous space for items like water bottles and mobile phones. The trunk offers 497L of space, and folding down the rear seats further expands the storage capacity, making it suitable for carrying luggage during long-distance trips.

In terms of powertrain, the car is equipped with a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine combined with a dual-motor hybrid system, delivering a total output of 184PS and a combined torque of 315Nm, paired with an E-CVT transmission. During actual driving, the car is powered by the motor during initial acceleration, providing a quick response and smooth acceleration. At low to medium speeds, power delivery is linear, and the engine engages actively when the gas pedal is pressed for overtaking, offering a seamless transition of power. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 7.9 seconds, which meets the needs of daily commuting and occasional spirited driving. There are three driving modes available: Eco, Normal, and Sport, with Sport mode making the throttle response more sensitive and power output more direct.

In terms of handling and chassis performance, the front MacPherson independent suspension + rear multi-link independent suspension combination is tuned for comfort while retaining a certain level of sportiness. During daily driving, the suspension can filter out most small bumps, and when going over speed bumps or uneven roads, the shock absorbers suppress vibrations well, keeping the vehicle body stable. The steering wheel offers precise control with minimal play, providing a steady feel at high speeds and maintaining reasonable body roll during cornering. Overall handling performance is quite good among hybrid models of the same class.

In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 4L/100km. In actual tests, urban driving fuel consumption is approximately 4.5L/100km, while highway driving is around 5.2L/100km. The fuel efficiency is excellent, making it suitable for users who prioritize fuel economy. Regarding braking performance, the ventilated disc brakes at the front and rear, combined with the electronic parking brake, offer a quick response and a linear pedal feel. In emergency braking situations, the vehicle remains stable.

As for ride comfort, noise control inside the cabin is quite good. At low speeds, motor noise is not obvious, while at high speeds, wind and tire noise slightly increase but remain within an acceptable range. The seats are moderately supportive and well-cushioned, allowing for prolonged driving without causing fatigue. The energy recovery system offers three adjustable levels, with the highest level providing moderate recovery force, avoiding an obvious drag sensation, and enhancing driving smoothness.

In terms of safety features, it comes standard with the Honda Sensing safety system, which includes lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, collision mitigation braking system, and forward collision warning. In actual tests, the lane-keeping assist system is highly accurate, and the collision mitigation braking system effectively prevents collisions during low-speed urban driving. Additional safety features include six airbags (front dual airbags, front and rear side airbags, and front and rear curtain airbags), front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree panoramic camera system, further enhancing driving safety.

In summary, the core advantages of the 2022 Honda Civic e:HEV 2.0L RS lie in its efficient hybrid system, rich intelligent configurations, and commendable handling performance. Compared to competitors in the same class, its fuel consumption outperforms traditional gasoline vehicles, and its configuration level is slightly higher than competitors like the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid at a similar price. Its interior space is also comparable. This model is suitable for families who focus on fuel economy and technology features, as well as young drivers who appreciate a sporty feel and the combination of daily commuting with occasional driving fun.

Overall, the 2022 Honda Civic e:HEV 2.0L RS is a well-balanced hybrid sedan that performs well in power, fuel efficiency, features, and space. The sporty design of the RS version also caters to the aesthetic preferences of younger users. If your budget is around 160,000 MYR and you prioritize fuel efficiency and technology features, this model is worth considering.

Pros
The hybrid system is smooth and fuel-efficient, with an ECO mode fuel consumption of about 4L/100km. The electric motor provides quick and quiet starts.
The electric motor delivers strong torque (315N·m), offering sufficient power for climbing and overtaking, with an outstanding acceleration to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds.
The safety features are comprehensive, including 6 airbags and active braking, effectively avoiding collisions.
Cons
The floor in the middle of the rear row is relatively high, making long-term seating comfort poor
18-inch low-profile tires have poor shock absorption, making bumps over speed humps and rough roads noticeable
ESP intervention is slightly slow, with delayed response during cornering in heavy rain, affecting safety experience

Previously, I drove the old Vios, but after switching to the Civic e:HEV RS, it's like stepping into another world! During the morning rush hour on Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur, where the traffic is jammed like a parking lot, the electric motor starts quietly and smoothly. In eco mode, fuel consumption can really be pressed to around 4L, which is even more fuel-efficient than the Vios. On weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands, the electric motor's 315N·m torque is readily available as you press the pedal, so much more comfortable than the roaring of the old car. The interior 9-inch screen and head-up display look very high-tech, and the RS sports seats provide good support. However, the middle part of the rear floor is a bit high, so it's uncomfortable to sit for a long time. The 18-inch low-profile tires are quite bumpy over speed bumps, so you must be careful on Malaysia's rough roads. But overall, considering the price of over 160,000 Ringgit, this hybrid system plus safety configurations (6 airbags + active braking) are definitely worth the price!

Stuck in traffic during evening rush hour on Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur. When the car in front braked suddenly, the autonomous braking system gave a "beep-beep" warning, and before I could react, it automatically stopped—6 airbags combined with this safety system are indeed reliable. Unfortunately, during a sharp turn in last week’s heavy rain, the ESP intervened a bit too late, giving me a scare. A safety score of 4 seems fair. However, the e:HEV is truly powerful. As soon as the green light turned on, the electric motor delivered 315N·m of torque instantly, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds. Passing a slow-moving car was swift and effortless, and even climbing halfway up Genting Highlands, it didn’t falter. A performance score of 5 is well-deserved.

Every morning rush hour is a traffic jam, but this hybrid car starts super smoothly. When overtaking, just give some gas, and it’s powerful. The fuel consumption is only 4 liters, saving a lot of money! Three buddies can sit in the back without feeling cramped, and the trunk can fit two carry-on suitcases. However, the interior feels a bit plasticky, or else it would be perfect~

Previously, I was driving the old City model, switching to the Civic e:HEV RS really feels like an upgrade! Full marks for appearance, the fastback design + 18-inch wheels grab a lot of attention on KL streets. During rush hour traffic jams, the hybrid system is as smooth as an electric car, with fuel consumption of just 4L/100km, even better than my friend's Corolla Hybrid. Took the family to Genting Highlands over the weekend; the electric motor's 315N·m torque is super powerful on uphill drives, making overtaking effortless. However, the interior has a bit of a plastic feel, and the raised middle floor in the rear seats is a slight downside. But the safety features are packed, the HUD makes checking speed on highways super convenient, and the active braking system even helped me avoid a rear-end collision last time. At over RM160k, it's very worth it for a C-segment car!
