Nowadays, the competition in the C-segment SUV market in Malaysia is becoming increasingly intense. When choosing a car for family use, users not only value space practicality but also place higher demands on intelligent features and driving quality. As the flagship SUV's top-of-the-line version, the 2022 Proton X70 1.8 TGDi Premium 2WD not only continues the high value-for-money advantage of its predecessors but also makes targeted upgrades in terms of safety configurations and comfort features. During this test drive, we will focus on its daily driving performance, space utilization, and the actual experience of intelligent configurations to see whether it meets the multi-scenario needs of family users.

From the exterior, this X70 maintains the family-style design language, striking a balance between ruggedness and agility. The large-sized blacked-out front grille combined with a transverse chrome strip enhances its visual width and makes it highly recognizable. The sharp design of the LED headlights on both sides, connected to the grille, adds to the overall cohesiveness. The side profile of the vehicle features a dual-waistline design extending from the front fender to the tail, paired with 19-inch multi-spoke wheels, showcasing a dynamic flair. At the rear, the floating roof and the horizontal tail lamps stand out. The LED light source inside the tail lamps provides clear visibility at night, while the silver skid plate under the rear bumper adds a robust touch to the SUV's character.

Sitting inside, the overall layout of the interior is simple yet rich in layers. The center console is wrapped in soft-touch materials, paired with piano black panels and silver trim, giving it a texture that is above average for its class. The 12.3-inch full LCD instrument cluster displays clear information and supports multiple display modes, including speed, fuel consumption, navigation, and more. The 8-inch central touchscreen is conveniently located at the top of the dashboard, offers smooth operation, and supports CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. In terms of amenities, the front seats are electrically adjustable and come with a ventilation function. The passenger side is also equipped with a shoulder adjustment switch, making daily use very convenient. The rear seats support a 60:40 split fold down and have adjustable backrest angles. When folded down, they create a flat space with the trunk, which has a standard capacity of 515 liters, making it more than adequate for family trips. The dual-zone automatic air conditioning system includes an ionizer, and there are independent air vents for the rear seats. Adding to the conveniences are a 220V power outlet and thoughtful attention to detail.

In terms of power, this X70 comes equipped with a 1.8T turbocharged engine that delivers a maximum power output of 184 PS and a peak torque of 300 N·m, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. In daily driving, the power response during acceleration is relatively brisk, and there is no obvious jerkiness at low speeds. When switching to Sport mode, the gas pedal becomes more responsive, the acceleration provides a stronger push-back sensation, and overtaking feels confident. The official 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 9.5 seconds, which is considered average among 1.8T models in its class. As for fuel consumption, after driving equal distances in urban traffic conditions and on highways, the combined fuel economy was about 8.5L/100km, which is commendable for an SUV weighing around 1.6 tons.

Regarding handling, the X70 uses a front MacPherson independent suspension and a rear multi-link independent suspension, with a chassis tuning that leans towards comfort. When going over speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension filters out most of the fine vibrations, ensuring that passengers inside the car don't feel significant bumps. While cornering, the body exhibits good roll control, and the steering is precise with no obvious slack, instilling confidence in the driver. The braking system performs reliably, with a moderate pedal travel. During emergency braking, the vehicle maintains its posture well without noticeable nose-dive effects.

The safety configuration is a major highlight of this X70. It is equipped with 6 airbags, ABS anti-lock braking system, vehicle stability control, lane change assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and other functions as standard across all models. The 360-degree panoramic imaging has very high clarity, allowing clear visibility of the vehicle's surroundings during parking, making it very friendly for new drivers. During daily driving, the lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking system respond promptly, effectively avoiding potential dangers.

Overall, the 2022 Proton X70 1.8 TGDi Premium 2WD performs well in terms of space, configuration, power, and safety. Compared with competitors in the same class such as the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, it has a lower price but is more richly equipped, making it highly cost-effective. This car is suitable for consumers who value family practicality and have requirements for intelligent configurations and safety features. Whether for daily commuting or weekend family outings, it can meet the needs well. If you are looking for a well-balanced, cost-effective C-segment SUV, this X70 is worth considering.

As the owner of a 2022 Proton X70 1.8 TGDi Premium 2WD, after driving it in Malaysia for almost a year, let me start with the performance—4 stars because it's adequate for daily use but not particularly impressive. During Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour, the 1.8T power combined with the DCT gearbox occasionally experiences slight jerks when following cars at low speeds. However, when hitting the LDP highway or the North-South Expressway for overtaking, stepping on the throttle deeply still delivers responsive power. The 184 horsepower handles Malaysia's hilly roads (like the Genting foothills section) effortlessly. The fuel consumption is about 9L/100km during city traffic and can drop to around 7L on the highway, which overall is fairly satisfactory. When it comes to safety, it deserves a full score! With Malaysia's frequent rainy weather, there was a time in Penang on a slippery road where an emergency brake was needed, and the Autonomous Emergency Braking system intervened immediately, saving me from almost hitting the Myvi in front. Another time on a country road in Johor, the Lane Departure Warning suddenly beeped—turns out I was distracted and had crossed the white line. These two features indeed saved me. Moreover, the six airbags, 360-degree surround-view camera system are particularly practical for parking in Kuala Lumpur's narrow alleys. Together with the Vehicle Stability Control, I also feel very secure taking my family on road trips to the east coast. The safety configuration is definitely top-notch.

As the owner of the 2022 Proton X70 1.8 TGDi Premium 2WD for almost a year in Malaysia, I feel quite satisfied with its safety and exterior features! First, let's talk about safety. I'll rate it 4 stars as it really feels reliable. Highways in Malaysia sometimes have a lot of big vehicles, and in Kuala Lumpur's traffic jams, there's always someone suddenly cutting into your lane. The X70's automatic braking and forward collision warning system have saved me a few times—once on the LDP highway, the car in front suddenly braked, and the system immediately applied the brakes for me, avoiding a collision. Also, the 360-degree camera helps a lot when parking in Penang's narrow old streets, where even motorcycles parked on the roadside can be seen very clearly, making it easy even for beginners. However, if it could add lane-centering assist, it would be perfect. Currently, the lane departure warning only alerts you, but it would be much more reassuring if it could actively correct the steering. As for the exterior, I would also give it 4 stars. The design aligns well with Malaysian aesthetics. The LED headlights are particularly bright at night, making it easy to see while driving on the East Coast's dark roads; the car’s body lines are also very bold, and neighbors in the community ask if it’s an imported car when it’s parked. The only small regret is that the paint is a bit thin—last time I drove on a rural road in Ipoh, a tree branch scratched it and left a mark. If the paint were thicker, it would be more durable. All in all, these two aspects exceeded my expectations, making it really reassuring as a family car!

As the owner of the 2022 Proton X70 1.8 TGDi Premium 2WD, I must say its performance truly amazed me! In Malaysia's traffic-congested conditions with occasional highway drives, the 1.8T engine of this car performs exceptionally well. It accelerates briskly, and the turbo involvement is very smooth, without any abrupt feeling at all. The last time I drove my family to Genting Highlands, the car climbed hills effortlessly and overtaking was smooth, completely unlike the sluggish feeling one might expect from an SUV. The transmission's response is also very responsive, with almost unnoticeable shifts, making the driving experience exceptionally smooth. Speaking of safety, I think the X70 is very well-equipped. It comes with a full set of active safety systems, such as lane-keeping assist and autonomous emergency braking, which have been very helpful during my daily commutes. Especially in high-traffic areas like Kuala Lumpur, the forward collision warning system reminded me several times to maintain a safe following distance, helping to avoid potential dangers. However, I deducted one point because, on one occasion during a rainy highway drive, I felt the stability control system intervened slightly late. Although it eventually managed to regain stability steadily, it would be even better if it were more sensitive. All in all, this car's safety configurations are absolutely worth its price, giving me great confidence while driving.

As the owner of the 2022 Proton X70 1.8 TGDi Premium 2WD, having driven it in Malaysia for almost a year, the experience truly aligns well with local needs! The exterior gets 4 stars because the overall design is grand, and the LED headlights along with the 19-inch wheels stand out in KL traffic. However, the chrome strips on the front could be slightly less for a more understated look—I personally think it would age better. That said, every time I park at Jaya Grocer, passers-by still take another look, which definitely adds points. The interior deserves full marks! The full LCD instrument cluster and 8-inch infotainment screen are very user-friendly. The dual-zone air conditioning with ion purification works wonders in Malaysia's hot and humid weather; within two minutes of starting the car, it cools down completely, and the rear air vents are also powerful. When taking family members to Genting, the elderly and children in the backseat don't complain about the heat. My favorite feature is the ventilated seats—under the scorching 3 PM sun in Kuala Lumpur, the seats don’t burn when sitting down, which is an absolute lifesaver! The performance is unquestionable and well-deserving of 5 stars! The 1.8T engine provides a thrilling experience for overtaking on the LDP highway, and its 9.5-second acceleration is more than sufficient for local roads. It doesn’t feel sluggish when starting up again after being stuck in traffic. The DCT gearbox shifts smoothly, and while navigating the hilly roads in Penang, it climbs with confidence and ease, with no pressure at all. Moreover, on Malaysia's poorly maintained roads (such as some bumpy village roads), the suspension does a great job of absorbing shocks without making the ride uncomfortable. Overall, driving this car in Malaysia is an excellent experience. The interior and performance are spot on, and with slight adjustments to the exterior, it would be perfect!

As the owner of the 2022 Proton X70 1.8 TGDi Premium 2WD, I've been driving it in Malaysia for almost a year, and what I’m most satisfied with are its safety features and interior! Let’s talk about safety first. With frequent rain and traffic jams in Kuala Lumpur, the X70's autonomous braking system has honestly saved me once — there was a time when the car in front suddenly braked, and before I could react, the system automatically stopped the car, giving me quite a scare! The 360-degree camera is especially handy when parking in narrow alleys in PJ; I can clearly see even small motorbikes by the roadside, so there’s no worry about scratches or bumps at all. The six airbags and electronic stability control give me great peace of mind on the East Coast Highway, especially when facing unexpected situations — these features can be lifesaving! The interior is even better. The dual-zone automatic air conditioning with ion purification keeps the air inside fresh even during the haze-filled days in Kuala Lumpur. The ventilated front seats are particularly practical during summer; no more getting my seat burning hot! The leather seats feel very premium, and the rear seats can recline and fold down. Last time, when I took my family to Cameron Highlands, my parents sat in the back and said it was really comfortable. The fully digital instrument cluster and the 8-inch central control screen operate very smoothly, and even the elderly in my family could quickly get the hang of it. In conclusion, for this price range, being able to get a car that’s both safe and comfortable is really worth it!
