The competition in the Southeast Asian B-segment pure electric SUV market has become increasingly intense in recent years. Consumers not only value range and practicality but also have high demands for smart features and space performance. The 2023 Peugeot e-2008, as a new contender in this segment, focuses on "balanced configuration and recognizable French design" while targeting daily family commutes with its official range of 403 kilometers. The main purposes of this test drive are to verify whether its static quality meets expectations, whether its dynamic performance is suitable for urban and intercity travel, and whether its configuration cost-effectiveness is competitive.

In terms of appearance, the e-2008 continues Peugeot's family design language, with an overall style biased towards refined sportiness. The front face features a large seamless grille adorned with dotted trim strips, paired with sharp LED headlight groups on both sides that achieve high recognition when illuminated. The lower front bumper is equipped with black plastic cladding, adding a touch of toughness to the SUV. The body side showcases smooth lines, with 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and 215/55 R18 tires creating a harmonious match. Chrome trim along the window line extends from the A-pillar to the rear, enhancing the visual layering. At the rear, the standout design is a full-width LED taillight group integrated with the Peugeot logo in the center, delivering a striking effect when lit. The rear bumper also features black cladding, echoing the front design. Overall, the e-2008 exterior retains the uniqueness of French design while balancing the gravitas of an SUV.

Inside the cabin, the e-2008 adopts the "i-Cockpit" interior design, with the center console tilted towards the driver, improving operational convenience. Regarding interior materials, the upper part of the center console is wrapped in soft plastic material, complemented by piano black trim and metallic accents, providing a refined touch. As for core features, a 10-inch touchscreen is positioned centrally on the dashboard, with a clear interface layout supporting Bluetooth, CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. The fully digital instrument cluster is moderately sized and capable of displaying information such as range, speed, and driving modes. Together with the HUD head-up digital display, drivers can access key data without looking down. For seating, the front seats are electrically adjustable with good wrapping, while the rear seatbacks are foldable in a 60:40 ratio. The trunk capacity measures 434L and can be further expanded to accommodate family storage needs. Additionally, features like rear air vents, 220V/230V power outlets, and a panoramic sunroof are all standard, combining practicality with comfort.

In terms of space, the e-2008's wheelbase is 2605mm, aligning with mainstream standards for B-segment SUVs. The front-row offers ample seating space; a passenger 175cm tall can adjust the seat and still have a fist's space above their head. Performance in the rear row is average, providing the same height passenger with two fist-lengths of legroom and four fingers of headroom, meeting the needs of daily family outings. For storage space, the door panel storage slots, central armrest box, and front cup holders are sensibly designed and can hold phones, water bottles, and other small items. The trunk features a large opening and a flat interior, ideal for placing luggage or strollers.

In terms of power, the e-2008 is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, with a maximum power of 138PS and a maximum torque of 260N·m, paired with a single-speed transmission. During daily driving, power response is quick at startup, and a light press on the accelerator provides a noticeable push-back feeling. Acceleration from 0-60km/h is smooth, making it suitable for congested urban road conditions. When switching to Sport mode, power output becomes more direct, and pressing the pedal deeply during overtaking results in immediate torque release. Acceleration remains adequate in high-speed ranges (80-120km/h), ensuring stress-free intercity highway trips. The drive modes offer three options: Eco, Standard, and Sport. The power output characteristics vary significantly between modes, allowing flexibility based on road conditions.

In terms of handling and chassis performance, the e-2008 uses a combination of front MacPherson independent suspension and rear torsion beam non-independent suspension. On urban roads, the suspension effectively filters out minor bumps, and vibrations inside the car are minimal. When crossing speed bumps or uneven roads, rear suspension rebounds are slightly noticeable but remain within acceptable limits. The steering wheel provides precise turning with minimal dead zones. Steering is light at low speeds and progressively heavier at higher speeds, offering good stability. When cornering, body roll is well-controlled, and the vehicle maintains steady postures, providing drivers with ample confidence.

As for range and charging, the e-2008 is equipped with a 50kWh lithium battery pack, with an official range of 403km. This test drive covered scenarios such as urban congestion and highway cruising, with the air conditioning on throughout the trip. The actual range completion rate is about 85% (with highways accounting for 30%), meeting expectations. In terms of charging time, the fast charging mode takes about 7.5 hours to charge from 30% to 80%, while slow charging takes approximately 11 hours, suitable for home slow charging or public fast charging. Additionally, the energy recovery system offers three levels of adjustment. At the highest setting, there is noticeable drag when releasing the pedal, effectively extending the range. The lowest setting is closer to the driving feel of fuel-powered cars, accommodating different driving habits.

Regarding driving comfort, the e-2008 performs well in NVH control. Below 60km/h, cabin noise mainly comes from the tires, while wind noise becomes more noticeable above 80km/h. However, overall noise levels are above average for its class. The seat cushioning is moderately soft, ensuring comfort for long periods without fatigue. The rear floor's center hump is relatively low, causing minimal impact on legroom for the center rear passenger. Standard safety features include automatic parking, lane change assist, and lane departure warning, further enhancing convenience and safety during driving.

To sum up, the key advantages of the 2023 Peugeot e-2008 lie in its balanced features and unique design style. Compared with its peers, it stands out with standard configurations such as HUD head-up display, electric seats, and a panoramic sunroof, offering exceptional value for money. The official range of 403km combined with an 85% range achievement rate meets the needs of daily family commutes and short intercity trips. Regarding its target demographic, the e-2008 is suitable for families prioritizing design aesthetics and practical configurations, particularly for those primarily using the car for urban commuting with occasional intercity travel.

In conclusion, the 2023 Peugeot e-2008 is a "no obvious shortcoming" B-segment pure electric SUV. Its French design enhances product distinctiveness, and its balanced features and range performance align with the core needs of family users, making it reasonably competitive in the highly contested pure electric SUV market.

As the owner of a 2023 Peugeot e-2008, after driving in Malaysia for half a year, I truly feel I made the right choice! Previously driving a fuel-powered SUV, fuel consumption surged to 12L during Kuala Lumpur’s morning rush hour. After switching to the e-2008, the instant torque response is amazing with one push of the accelerator—260N·m torque makes overtaking super satisfying. The electricity cost is only one-third of what I used to spend on fuel. On weekends, taking my family to Ipoh, the 403km range is just enough for a round trip, and fast-charging stations at highway rest stops are also convenient. I’d give the exterior design 4 points because the claw-shaped taillights are very eye-catching, but the front grille feels a bit understated. I’d rate the performance 5 points; it’s agile in handling and stable in side winds when crossing the Penang Bridge. A minor complaint is the 434L trunk space, which doesn’t leave much room after putting in a baby stroller, but it’s sufficient for daily use. The safety features are comprehensive, and the HUD head-up display is super practical in Malaysia’s intense sunlight, while the LED lights are bright when driving on rural roads at night. In conclusion, driving a fully electric SUV like the e-2008 in Malaysia offers great value and an excellent experience!

Last week, I took my family on an outing to the foot of Cloud Top Mountain, and we encountered a heavy rain on our return trip, causing visibility to drop sharply. The LED headlights of the e-2008 automatically turned on, and the lane departure warning gently vibrated the steering wheel to remind me to correct my path. The active braking system also intervened when the car in front braked suddenly, providing a full sense of safety (deducting 1 point because I feel the lane-keeping assist alert sound could be a bit softer). The leather seats in the interior didn’t feel stuffy even when damp, the 10-inch touchscreen central display was smooth to operate, and the HUD head-up display allowed me to look at the navigation without lowering my head. During uphill driving, the 260 N·m torque of the motor responded instantly, the chassis was stable on winding roads, and the family in the backseat slept soundly. The only small regret is that fast charging takes 7.5 hours, but the 403km range for city commuting is completely sufficient.

Been driving the e-2008 for half a year, it accelerates instantly in traffic, making overtaking super enjoyable! The back row comfortably fits three guys over 170cm tall, and the trunk can pack all the gear for a family weekend picnic. The fast charging takes 7.5 hours requiring advance planning, but home slow charging is sufficient. Overall, very satisfied!

This little body is surprisingly powerful when it runs! The moment the green light turned on, it immediately overtook the car beside it. The way pedestrians look at me has completely changed 🤣

As the owner of the 2023 e-2008 and having driven it in Malaysia for half a year, I genuinely feel I made the right choice! I previously drove a fuel SUV, but now switching to a pure electric vehicle, I save half of my monthly fuel expense directly (Kuala Lumpur traffic jams consume too much fuel). The exterior design really hits me, with the lion claw headlights and floating roof. When parked near the Petronas Twin Towers, the car gets a super high rate of second glances. During morning rush hour commutes, the 260N·m torque takes off with just a tap, navigating through traffic is much more agile than a fuel-powered car. The safety features are comprehensive, with 6 airbags + autonomous braking. Last time on a mountain road in Penang, I almost rear-ended another car, but the system automatically stopped for me, giving me a big scare but also full of a sense of safety. However, the fast charging takes 7.5 hours, which is a bit slow, so traveling on the East Coast Highway requires planning charging stops in advance. The rear space is just right for my height of 175cm, and when taking the family to Genting Highlands on weekends, the power doesn’t feel weak climbing up slopes. Overall, I’m very satisfied, just hoping Malaysia can build more fast charging stations!
