Specs

In Malaysia's C-segment pure electric SUV market, the choices under RM200,000 are gradually increasing, but options that balance space, features, and practical range still require careful selection. The 2024 BYD ATTO 3 410km Standard Range, as a popular candidate in this segment, attracts considerable attention from family users and young consumers with its pricing of RM149,800, long-wheelbase space, and rich intelligent configurations. This test drive will focus on its static experience, dynamic performance, and daily practicality to see if this car can meet the core needs of most users.

In terms of exterior design, the 2024 ATTO 3 continues the family-style "Ocean Aesthetics" design, featuring smooth and flowing overall lines with well-proportioned body dimensions. The front face adopts a closed grille design paired with sharp LED headlamps on both sides, which integrate daytime running lights with high recognition when illuminated. On the side, the double waistline design extends from the front to the rear, while the 17-inch wheels have a simple design, with tire specifications of 215/60 R17, balancing comfort and grip. At the rear, the LED taillight strip is the visual highlight, with an internal unique dot-matrix design, and the diffuser-style rear bumper adds a touch of sportiness. Overall, the exterior design is youthful and stylish, catering to current mainstream aesthetics.

Stepping inside, the interior style focuses on simplicity, with the dashboard largely wrapped in soft-touch materials, giving a refined texture. The center console's most eye-catching feature is the 15.6-inch rotatable intelligent touchscreen, which supports horizontal and vertical screen switching, offering smooth operation. It comes equipped with the DiLink intelligent connected system, which includes navigation, voice control, online music, and other practical functions. The instrument cluster is a 5-inch full LCD display; though not large, it clearly shows information such as speed, range, and battery charge. As for the seats, the front seats offer electric adjustment with moderate wrapping and support, while the rear seats adopt a 60:40 split-folding configuration, making it convenient to expand the trunk space. Storage performance is decent, with door storage slots, a central armrest box, and other conventional compartments meeting daily use needs. The trunk offers a volume of 440 liters, capable of holding several suitcases with ease.

In terms of space, the vehicle dimensions are 4455mm×1875mm×1615mm, with a wheelbase of 2720mm, which falls in line with mainstream levels for C-segment SUVs. The front row provides ample space; with a seat adjusted for a 175cm-tall occupant, there is still one fist of headroom remaining. The rear space is equally impressive, with two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom, ensuring it won't feel cramped even with three adults in the back. Rear passengers are also provided with air conditioning vents and power outlets, enhancing their comfort.

For the powertrain, the vehicle is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a maximum power of 150kW (205.9PS) and a maximum torque of 310N·m. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 7.9 seconds. During real-world driving, the power response at the start is quick, and a gentle press on the accelerator provides a noticeable push-back sensation. While mid and late-stage acceleration is less aggressive than the initial burst, it comfortably meets daily overtaking needs. The driving modes include Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Eco mode, the power output is smoother, making it suitable for daily commuting, while Sport mode offers a more aggressive throttle response, catering to users seeking driving excitement.

In terms of handling and chassis, the front suspension is a MacPherson independent suspension, while the rear suspension is a multi-link independent suspension, with an overall tuning that leans towards comfort. When driving over bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out most vibrations, ensuring that passengers inside the car do not feel significant discomfort; when cornering, the body roll is kept within a reasonable range, and the steering is precise with minimal dead zones, offering good driving confidence. The braking system performs steadily, with a linear pedal feel, and during emergency braking, the body posture remains stable.

In terms of range and energy consumption, the official pure electric range is 345 km, with a battery capacity of 49.92 kWh. In actual tests, under conditions of 50% urban roads and 50% highways, with the air conditioning on throughout, the range fulfillment rate is about 85%, with an energy consumption of approximately 15 kWh/100 km, which performs averagely. For charging, it takes about 30 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% in fast charging mode, while slow charging takes about 7 hours, meeting daily charging needs.

In terms of driving comfort, the in-car noise control is commendable, with almost no motor noise at low speeds. At high speeds, wind noise and tire noise are slightly noticeable but remain within an acceptable range. The seat comfort is quite good, making long rides less tiring. The energy recovery system offers three adjustable levels, providing significant drag feeling when releasing the accelerator at the highest level, which can effectively improve the range; at the lowest level, it simulates the driving experience of a fuel-powered car, suitable for users accustomed to fuel vehicles.

In summary, the core advantages of the 2024 BYD ATTO 3 410km Standard Range lie in its spacious interior, rich features, and balanced performance. Compared to competitors in the same price range, its intelligent configurations and safety features are more comprehensive, including standard features such as 360-degree panoramic cameras, ACC adaptive cruise control, and 7 airbags, offering outstanding value for money. It is suitable for family users who prioritize space and features, as well as young consumers who pursue fashion and a sense of technology. Overall, this car is a well-rounded pure electric SUV that can meet the daily needs of most users.

Last Saturday, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain. As soon as we got on the winding mountain road, there was a rain shower. The rain-sensing wipers automatically activated, and the 360-degree camera imaging was clear. The body stability control was reliable during cornering, but the front wheels slipped a bit during sudden acceleration. The 7 airbags and lane departure warning gave me peace of mind, but the instrument panel is only 5 inches, so I had to glance at the central control to check the range. The actual range is about 300km, which is sufficient for the weekend, though charging takes about half an hour. Overall, it’s pretty good – I would rate the safety and performance 4 out of 5.

Every day in traffic, driving it is really worry-free, starts and overtakes effortlessly, and the highway ACC cruise control is very stable. The back row fits three buddies without feeling cramped, and the trunk still has room after placing a stroller and a backpack. The exterior design isn't that flashy, but the safety features are maxed out, with 7 airbags + automatic braking, making my wife feel at ease.
