2024 BYD ATTO 3 Extend Range Review

In recent years, competition in Malaysia's C-segment electric vehicle market has been heating up. Consumers are no longer just looking at range figures; they are paying more attention to a balance of features, space, and driving experience. As BYD's core model in the local market, the 2024 ATTO 3 Extended Range enters the market with a 60.48kWh Blade Battery, an official range of 420km, and 204PS power parameters. The core purpose of our test drive this time is to verify whether it can surpass competitors at the same price point in terms of features, practicality, and driving quality.
At first glance, the 2024 ATTO 3 Extended Range continues the family-style "ocean aesthetic" design, but with more emphasis on sporty details. The sealed front grille paired with the through-light LED daytime running lights has high recognition; the trapezoidal air intake and guiding grooves on both sides of the front bumper optimize aerodynamics and make the front look wider. The body side features a fastback design, with a waistline extending from the A-pillar to the rear, complemented by 18-inch multi-spoke wheels, making the 4455mm length appear more elongated; the minimum ground clearance of 175mm retains the SUV's off-road capability. The through-light LED taillights echo the front and are striking when lit up, while the silver skid plate on the rear bumper adds a touch of crossover style. The lighting system is entirely LED, with automatic headlights and rear fog lights as standard, which are very convenient for daily use.
Upon opening the door, the interior design leans toward a simple, technological style. The center console is covered with large areas of soft-touch materials, accentuated by silver trim, making it feel pleasant; the 15.6-inch rotatable central control screen serves as a visual centerpiece, and the 8-speaker system supporting Dirac sound effects enhances the entertainment experience. In terms of features, keyless entry, an electric panoramic sunroof, front-row automatic air conditioning, and rear air conditioning vents are all standard, ensuring practicality. For the seats, the driver’s seat offers 6-way electric adjustment, and the front passenger seat offers 4-way electric adjustment. The leather upholstery provides good support, and sitting for extended periods doesn’t cause fatigue. The rear seats are manually adjustable, and with a wheelbase of 2720mm, legroom is ample. A passenger of 175cm height sitting in the rear still has two fist-widths of space between their knees and the front seat. In terms of storage space, the trunk has a capacity of 440L, which can easily fit several suitcases. When the rear seats are folded down, the space can be further expanded, and there are plenty of smaller storage spaces like cup holders and door panel compartments to meet daily needs.
In terms of performance, the 204PS permanent magnet synchronous motor is paired with a 60.48kWh Blade Battery, achieving an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.3 seconds. During actual driving, the power response at start is very direct, and a light press on the accelerator generates a noticeable sense of pushback. Switching to Sport Mode makes acceleration more aggressive, providing confidence when overtaking. In Economy Mode, the power output is relatively smooth, making it suitable for daily commuting. The chassis adopts a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort. When driving over speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension absorbs most of the shock, ensuring a smooth ride for passengers inside the car. When cornering, body roll is well-controlled, and the steering response is precise with no noticeable slack, providing a stable overall driving experience.
In terms of range and charging, the official pure electric range is 420km. During our test drive, which covered urban congested roads and highways with the air conditioning on the entire time, the actual range achieved was about 85% of the official figure, which meets expectations. Fast charging takes 0.66 hours (30%-80%), and slow charging takes 9.7 hours, meeting daily charging needs. Noise control is well-handled, with wind and tire noise barely noticeable at high speeds, keeping the interior relatively quiet. The energy recovery system has three adjustable levels. In the highest level, releasing the accelerator results in significant drag, while the lowest level is similar to the coasting experience of a fuel-powered car, making it easy to adapt to after some practice.
On the safety configuration front, 7 airbags, ESP body stability system, ACC adaptive cruise control, 360-degree panoramic imaging, active braking, and lane departure assist are all standard features, offering full safety performance. Overall, the 2024 ATTO 3 Extend Range excels in configuration, space, and power. Priced at 149,800 RMB, it offers high cost performance among C-segment electric vehicles in its class.
In summary, the core advantage of the 2024 BYD ATTO 3 Extend Range lies in its balance – sufficient range, comprehensive features, comfortable space, and stable driving feel, along with excellent safety configurations. Compared to competitors in the same price range, its features and space stand out, with obvious cost-performance advantages. It is suitable for families who value practicality and seek a well-rounded configuration, or young people who need a car for daily commuting and occasional long-distance trips. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, feature-rich C-segment electric car, the ATTO 3 Extend Range is worth considering.
