The market for C-segment pure electric SUVs has seen a continuous rise in demand in recent years locally. Consumers not only want enough space to meet family usage needs but also expect the low operating costs and smart features that electric vehicles provide. As a new contender in this segment, the 2024 NETA X 400 Luxury enters the market with a price of RM127,880, an official range of 401 km, and a wealth of comfort configurations. This test drive focuses on verifying its actual space performance, daily usability of its power, and whether its features truly meet the needs of family users.

In terms of exterior design, the NETA X 400 Luxury follows a minimalist and sophisticated style. The front adopts a closed grille design, paired with through-line LED daytime running lights, with the brand logo embedded in the middle, offering a decent level of recognition. The body side has smooth lines, with a waistline stretching from the A-pillar to the rear enhancing the layered look. The vehicle features 18-inch multi-spoke wheels paired with 225/60 R18 tires, achieving proportionate and balanced visuals. At the rear, the smoked-through-line tail lights echo the front design, while the lower bumper adopts a hidden design. The overall style leans towards a youthful aesthetic without being ostentatious, catering to the tastes of most family users.

Entering the interior, black is the dominant color scheme. The dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials, accented with silver trim for decoration, delivering a sense of quality that ranks in the upper-middle level among vehicles in the same price range. The 15.6-inch floating central control screen is the visual focal point, with clear screen resolution and support for voice control, CarPlay, and Android Auto. The system operates quite smoothly. The instrument panel is fully digital and displays essential information such as range, speed, and navigation. In terms of configuration, the front seats support six-way electric adjustments, while the rear is equipped with independent air-conditioning vents and USB ports, ensuring convenience for daily use. Regarding space, the 2770mm wheelbase ensures spacious rear legroom, with a 175cm passenger having about two fists of room in front of their knees and one fist of headroom. The trunk volume is 508L, and folding down the rear seats expands it significantly, providing enough space for baby strollers or suitcases.

For the power unit, the NETA X 400 Luxury is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 120kW (163PS) and a maximum torque of 210N·m, paired with a single-speed gearbox. During daily driving, the initial acceleration and low-speed responses are quick. With a light touch of the throttle, you get a decent push-back sensation, which is more than adequate for urban commuting. At highway speeds, when exceeding 100km/h, the acceleration force diminishes slightly, but overtaking remains confident. The suspension system uses front MacPherson struts and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for comfort. When passing speed bumps or bumpy roads, the suspension filters out most of the vibrations without feeling overly rigid. During cornering, body roll is controlled within reasonable limits, maintaining driving confidence.

In terms of range, the official figure is stated at 401 km. During testing under mixed driving conditions, with city and highway driving each accounting for 50%, and the air conditioning set to 24°C on automatic mode, the actual range achieved was about 340 km, approximately 85% of the official figure, which is a fairly standard performance. Fast charging from 30% to 80% takes 30 minutes, while full charging with a slow charger requires nine hours, making it suitable for users with home charging setups. Noise control is well-executed. At speeds below 60 km/h, there is almost no noticeable wind or road noise. On highways, wind noise slightly increases but does not interfere with conversations inside the car. The energy recovery system is adjustable in two levels. At the low level, the drag feeling is light, offering a driving experience similar to fuel-powered cars. At the high level, it extends the range but has a stronger deceleration effect when releasing the accelerator, which requires some adaptation.

Overall, the core advantages of the Nezha X 400 Luxury lie in its spacious interior, rich configurations, and affordable pricing. Compared to competitors in the same segment such as the BYD Atto 3, it has a longer wheelbase, offering more space in the rear seats, and its price of RM127,888 is lower than the base version of the Atto 3. It is suitable for family users who value space and practicality, especially those who often need to transport elderly people or children. The comfortable suspension and abundant comfort features enhance the daily travel experience. If your budget is around RM130,000 and you are looking for a pure electric SUV for both family use and commuting, the Nezha X 400 Luxury is worth considering.

Recently, commuting with the Neta X has been amazing! It's quick and smooth when starting in traffic, not sluggish, and even with three guys in the back, it's not cramped. A fast charge for 30 minutes can last a whole week. The only small downside is that the acceleration isn't super strong, but it's totally sufficient for daily use. With full safety features, it feels very reliable to drive.

Last Saturday, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Yunding Mountain. The mountain road had many potholes after the rain, but the 156mm ground clearance was just enough. The independent front and rear suspension absorbed the bumps steadily, and my wife sitting in the back didn’t complain about the jolts. The 15.6-inch center console screen had a clear navigation display, but the plastic trim felt a bit cheap to the touch. On the return trip during the evening rush hour, the ACC adaptive cruise control saved a lot of effort. With a 401km range, there was still over 100km left after the round trip, so the performance in this regard is really impressive.

The interior of this car feels really premium, but the center console screen reflects so much that I have to squint to see the navigation on a sunny day!

As a car owner who just got the car two weeks ago, previously drove a Honda City gasoline version, switching to the Neta X 400 Luxury is truly amazing! The 15.6-inch large screen in the interior makes navigation super enjoyable, and the leather seats with electric adjustment are very convenient, but there’s a bit too much plastic on the center console, deducting 0.5 points. During the morning rush hour crawling on Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur, the electric motor’s quick start and effortless overtaking make it sufficient with 9.5 seconds acceleration. On weekends, took the family to Genting Highlands; uphill power is strong, and ACC cruise control freed up my right foot. The 401km range is enough for a round trip without recharging. Safety features include 6 airbags and 360-degree imaging, so my wife no longer panics when reversing. The only minor drawback: fast charging takes half an hour to reach 80%, but slow charging takes nine hours, so planning is required in advance. Overall, it’s really worth 4 stars. Spending over RM120,000 on a C-segment pure electric car in Malaysia offers great value for money!
