In recent years, Malaysia's new energy vehicle market has gradually extended to higher-end segments, particularly in the mid-size electric vehicle sector. Consumers are no longer solely focused on range; their demands for performance, configuration, and luxury have also been increasing. The 2024 ORA 07 Performance, as the brand's first D-segment pure electric performance model, directly targets users who value a balance between power and configuration. Its official acceleration time of 4.3 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and a range of 550 km are its core selling points. In this test drive, we mainly aim to verify whether its performance lives up to its claims, and also to assess whether its practicality and comfort meet the standards for a family car.

In terms of appearance, the ORA 07 Performance maintains the brand’s signature retro coupe style, but the details emphasize sportiness even more. The front end features a closed grille, paired with sharp LED headlights on both sides. The light group incorporates daytime running lights, which are highly recognizable when lit. The side profile of the car has smooth lines, with a fastback design stretching from the B-pillar to the rear, complemented by 19-inch multi-spoke wheels, giving the vehicle a low-lying and dynamic stance. At the rear, the through-type LED taillight group echoes the front design, and diffuser-style decorative pieces are added to the rear bumper to further enhance its performance attributes. The overall dimensions of the vehicle are 4871mm×1862mm×1500mm, with a wheelbase of 2870mm, putting it in the standard D-segment car range. From the side view, it appears sleek and steady.

Stepping inside, the interior design leans towards simple luxury. The dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch materials, complemented by piano lacquer panels and metallic accents, giving it a premium feel. A floating 12.3-inch central control screen is positioned in the center, featuring a clear interface, smooth operation, and support for phone connectivity and voice control. The 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster displays rich information and allows for theme customization. A head-up display (HUD) system also comes standard, helping reduce the need to divert one’s gaze while driving. The seats are wrapped in leather, with the front seats supporting electric adjustment. The side bolsters provide good support, and long drives do not easily cause fatigue. The rear seating space is excellent, offering ample legroom, with a nearly flat floor so middle passengers can sit comfortably. The rear also features air conditioning vents and USB charging ports, ensuring practicality. For storage, the front center armrest box and door storage compartments offer considerable space, and the trunk’s regular capacity is sufficient for daily needs. The rear seats support a 60:40 split-fold, allowing for expanded loading space.

In terms of power, the ORA 07 Performance is equipped with dual front and rear permanent magnet synchronous motors, delivering a total system output of 300kW (408PS) and a combined torque of 680N·m. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is just 4.3 seconds. During actual driving, the power response is immediate at the start. Lightly pressing the accelerator provides a strong thrust, and the acceleration remains powerful in the middle and later stages, making overtaking effortless. There are three driving modes to choose from: Eco, Normal, and Sport. In Eco mode, power output is relatively smooth, making it suitable for daily commuting. In Sport mode, the power becomes more aggressive, and the steering wheel also feels heavier, aligning better with its performance-oriented positioning. The chassis features a combination of front MacPherson independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned towards sportiness while retaining a certain level of comfort. During cornering, body roll is well-controlled, with sufficient suspension support. The steering is precise, giving the driver plenty of confidence. When driving over bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out most small vibrations, without causing a noticeable harsh feeling.

In terms of range and charging, the vehicle is equipped with an 83.5kWh ternary lithium battery with an official pure electric range of 550km and a power consumption of 15.5kWh per 100km. During our testing under mixed road conditions, with urban roads accounting for 60% and highways for 40%, and the air conditioning on throughout, the range achievement rate was about 85%, which meets expectations. In fast-charging mode, it takes only 0.53 hours to charge from 30% to 80%, offering decent convenience. Regarding noise control, wind noise and tire noise are slightly noticeable when driving at high speeds but remain within an acceptable range. Overall quietness is significantly better than same-class fuel vehicles. There are three adjustable levels of energy recovery; the highest level delivers a noticeable drag feeling suitable for one-pedal driving, while the lowest level closely resembles the coasting feel of a fuel vehicle, catering to different driving habits.

In terms of safety features, the ORA 07 Performance comes standard with 5 safety airbags, ABS, vehicle stability control, lane change assist, lane departure warning, and active braking. ACC adaptive cruise control, 360-degree panoramic cameras, and automatic parking are also included, ensuring solid safety performance. As for comfort features, the 11-speaker audio system has good sound quality, and automatic air conditioning, rain-sensing wipers, and power-folding rearview mirrors are all standard, making the overall configuration level among the best in its class.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2024 ORA 07 Performance lie in its strong performance, rich configuration, and decent range. Compared to models in its class, such as the Tesla Model 3 Performance, it is more affordable and better equipped; while compared to the BYD Han EV, it boasts superior acceleration performance. As a D-segment pure electric sports sedan, it is not only suitable for young consumers seeking speed and excitement but also meets the daily needs of family users, especially those with high demands for performance and features.

In summary, the ORA 07 Performance is a pure electric vehicle that balances performance and practicality. Its 4.3-second acceleration provides thrilling driving pleasure, its 550km range and fast charging solve range anxiety, and its abundant features and comfortable space ensure convenience for daily use. If you're looking for a powerful, well-equipped, and reasonably priced mid-size electric car, it's worth considering.

As a 2024 ORA 07 Performance owner, after driving in Malaysia for three months, I truly feel I made the right choice! I was previously deciding between the Model 3 Performance, but the space and features of the ORA 07 are much more practical. I’d rate safety 4 stars — 5 airbags + standard active safety (AEB, lane-keeping) provide great peace of mind during Kuala Lumpur’s morning rush hours, though it’s a minor regret that the rear row doesn’t have side airbags. Performance-wise, it’s an easy 4 stars — accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds makes overtaking on the North-South Highway effortless, while the dual motor AWD feels super stable on rainy days driving up Genting Highland roads. With a range of 550 km, I can take my family to Penang on weekends, and just a 30-minute fast charge at the rest stop halfway fills up more than enough, causing no delays at all. A minor drawback is the lack of information on slow charging times; the home charging station still needs compatibility adjustment, but the fast charging is indeed satisfactory. Overall, with this level of performance and features at this price point, driving an EV in Malaysia is truly worth it!

Last week, I took my family on the mountain road beside the East Coast Expressway. The heavy rain made the road surface slippery. When I pressed the accelerator deeply, the 408 horsepower dual motors instantly erupted, and the 680N·m torque pushed the car steadily up the steep slope. The four-wheel-drive system didn't let the tires slip even a bit. While cornering, the front MacPherson and rear multi-link suspension kept the car body very stable, and the 19-inch tires provided strong grip. However, during sudden acceleration, the kids in the back seat said the seat support was a bit lacking. The soft-touch interior was delicate, but the glovebox on the passenger side was a bit small. However, the HUD and 12.3-inch central control screen worked very well in the rain, and the 360-degree camera system helped me easily park in the narrow space at the foot of the mountain.

This appearance is absolutely stunning! Every time I park by the roadside, someone asks about it. If only the front design were a bit softer, it would be perfect!

Yesterday I drove on the highway in a heavy rainstorm, the car body was so stable as if it was glued to the road, giving a full sense of security!

Stuck in traffic during the morning rush and feeling frustrated? Step on the accelerator and go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds; overtaking feels even better than enjoying a cup of kopi! The rear seats comfortably fit three big guys without feeling cramped, fast charging gets you back on track in half an hour, and ACC adaptive cruise control frees up your right foot. Just keep in mind that the big battery means you'll need to find a wider parking spot, but the top-notch safety features give you peace of mind while driving!
