Specs

In 2024, the competition in Malaysia's D-Segment electric vehicle market is gradually heating up. Consumers want long range to alleviate range anxiety, as well as distinctive features, all while keeping the price reasonable. The ORA 07 Long Range Ultra is designed to meet these needs—it boasts a 640km official range as its core selling point, is equipped with features like 11 speakers and a HUD head-up display, and is priced at just RM 169,800. In this test drive, we focus on verifying its range accuracy, daily driving comfort, and whether these high-end features are truly practical.

At first glance, the ORA 07 Long Range Ultra exhibits an elegant coupe style without overly exaggerated design elements. The closed front grille, combined with the slender LED headlights on both sides, gives it good recognizability. The side profile features smooth lines, with a fastback design that extends from the A-pillar to the rear, maintaining the dynamic feel of a coupe without excessively compromising rear headspace. The rear LED light bar is a highlight—when lit at night, it offers a clear visual effect. Combined with a slightly raised ducktail spoiler, it prevents the rear from looking monotonous. The 18-inch wheel size is appropriate, and the tires are designed for low noise and comfort, aligning with its family-oriented positioning.

Stepping inside, the interior adopts a symmetrical layout with a generally calm color scheme. The materials used for the dashboard are impressive, with soft-touch materials covering frequently touched areas, making it feel refined. The 12.3-inch floating central control screen serves as the visual focal point, with satisfactory operational smoothness and support for basic functions like Bluetooth and CarPlay. The 10.25-inch fully digital instrument panel is clear, displaying real-time information such as range, speed, and driving assistance status. In terms of features, the HUD head-up display proves practical, allowing key data to be viewed without looking down. The front seats feature electric adjustment, with good support from both the backrest and seat cushion. The 11-speaker sound system delivers sound quality that is above average for this segment, sufficient for everyday music enjoyment. Regarding storage space, the front center armrest compartment is moderately sized, the door storage pockets can hold two water bottles, and the rear seats feature independent air vents and power outlets, showcasing thoughtful details.

In terms of body dimensions, it measures 4,871mm in length, 1,862mm in width, and 1,500mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,870mm—these figures are quite standard in the D-Segment. For actual seating experience, after adjusting the front row to a proper driving position, there is a headroom space of one fist and two fingers. The rear legroom is spacious, allowing a 175cm-tall passenger's knees to remain two fists away from the front seat, and the headroom leaves about one fist, despite the fastback design. This ensures the space doesn't feel oppressive. The rear seats support a 60:40 split-folding configuration, increasing trunk capacity significantly when folded down, making it more convenient for transporting large luggage.

In terms of power, it is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, offering a maximum power of 150kW (204PS) and a maximum torque of 340N·m, with an official 0-100km/h acceleration of 7.9 seconds. During daily driving, acceleration is smooth and responsive, with the throttle (accelerator) being linear; there's no jerking even at low speeds. Mid- to high-range acceleration isn't as aggressive as a performance model, but when the accelerator is pressed harder during overtaking, the power output remains sufficient to handle daily commuting and highway driving needs. There are three driving modes available: Eco, Normal, and Sport. In Eco mode, power output is more subdued, suitable for urban traffic. In Sport mode, power response becomes more aggressive, ideal for good road conditions.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel has a moderate level of resistance and is fairly precise, with no obvious slack; the suspension system uses a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension, which is tuned for comfort. When driving over speed bumps or bumpy roads, most of the vibrations are filtered out, avoiding any harsh impacts; when cornering, the body roll is well-controlled, and the stability is decent. The braking performance feels linear, not overly sensitive in the initial phase, with sufficient braking force in the latter phase, inspiring confidence when braking.

Range is a key test item, and the official figure is a 640km CLTC range. We drove equal distances in both urban and highway settings: urban routes were mostly in economy mode with a speed maintained at 40-60km/h; highway routes were primarily in standard mode with a speed maintained between 100-120km/h, and air conditioning and audio were on throughout. The actual range was approximately 550km, yielding a range achievement rate of around 86%. This is relatively realistic for a D-Segment electric vehicle, reducing the need for frequent charging. The electricity consumption per 100km was roughly 14.5kWh, slightly above the official figure of 13.4kWh, mainly due to the proportion of highway driving and driving habits.

In terms of driving comfort, the sound insulation is excellent, with almost no motor noise at low speeds. On the highway, there is some tire and wind noise, but it is within an acceptable range. The seats offer great wrap-around and support, making long drives fatigue-free. The regenerative braking has three adjustable levels, with no noticeable drag in the highest setting. When the accelerator is released, it feels similar to coasting in a fuel-powered vehicle and does not affect the passenger experience.

Overall, the 2024 ORA 07 Long Range Ultra has clear core advantages: the 640km long range alleviates range anxiety, and the high achievement rate makes it more practical; it comes with rich features like HUD, 11 speakers, a 360-degree panoramic view system, and more; its price is competitive among electric vehicles in the same class, being nearly RM 20,000 cheaper than some competitors. Compared to other models in the same class, such as the BYD Seal, the ORA 07 Long Range Ultra has advantages in range and price, with comparable features.

The target audience for this car is quite clear: families who emphasize long range and practicality, or office workers who need a car for daily commuting and occasional long-distance travel. It does not have overly aggressive performance or flashy design, but it is well-balanced in key aspects like range, features, and space. If you are looking for a reliable all-electric family car without spending too much, the ORA 07 Long Range Ultra is worth considering.

Owner of 2024 ORA 07 Performance
As the owner of the 2024 ORA 07 Performance and having driven it for almost three months in Malaysia, I sincerely feel that this car is very well-suited for local road conditions! First, let me praise the safety features, and they definitely deserve full marks! Malaysia has a lot of highways and unexpected situations, and the car's automatic braking and forward collision warning have saved me once — it happened on the North-South Expressway when the car in front suddenly braked hard, and before I could react, the system automatically decelerated. It really gave me a fright. The 360-degree camera is super practical for parking in narrow alleyways in Kuala Lumpur, and the ACC adaptive cruise control makes long-distance driving much easier, giving a full sense of security. As for the interior, I'd give it 4 stars. The overall design is very tech-savvy, and the 12.3-inch floating central control screen operates smoothly. The HUD head-up display is also very clear even under Malaysia's strong sunlight, so there's no need to look down at the dashboard. However, there's a small downside: while the leather on the front seats is comfortable, it gets a bit hot after being exposed to the sun in summer. If there were a ventilation feature, it would be even better. For the exterior, I'd also give it 4 stars. The retro design with a dash of sporty vibes stands out among the sea of Japanese cars on Malaysian streets! Every time I park at a shopping mall, people come over to ask what car it is. But the paint feels a bit thin — last time on the road, a small stone hit it and left a little scratch, which is a bit heartbreaking. All in all, this car performs really well in terms of safety and aesthetics, and the interior is comfortable enough. It's really suitable as a household electric vehicle!

Owner of 2024 ORA 07 Performance
As the owner of a 2024 ORA 07 Performance, I've been driving it in Malaysia for almost three months, and I'm quite satisfied with both the interior and performance. In terms of the interior, the overall quality is impressive—the 12.3-inch floating central screen is very responsive, paired with the 10.25-inch fully digital instrument panel, creating a strong sense of technology. The seats are electrically adjustable, and the leather feels soft and comfortable; even during Kuala Lumpur traffic jams, sitting for long periods isn’t tiring. However, the slight bump in the middle of the rear floor causes a bit of discomfort for the middle passenger when carrying three friends. If this could be optimized, it would be perfect. A 4 out of 5 is very reasonable here. As for performance, I must commend the dual motors! Overtaking on highways in Malaysia is particularly enjoyable. The officially stated 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds is no exaggeration; when you press the accelerator hard, the push-back feeling directly pins you to the seat. On heavily trafficked roads like Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur, lane changing and accelerating are very smooth. Moreover, the all-wheel drive performs very well in rainy conditions on the LDP highway, maintaining stable grip without skidding. The only minor drawback is that the rear seat experiences slight bumps at low speeds over speed bumps. Nevertheless, for daily driving, it is more than enough. A 4 out of 5 rating is fair here as well.

Owner of 2024 ORA 07 Long Range Ultra
As the owner of the 2024 ORA 07 Long Range Ultra, after driving in Malaysia for almost three months, what I want to praise the most is its appearance! Every time I park near KLCC, it always manages to catch people's attention—its retro and rounded body lines paired with a low stance make it stand out on streets full of boxy SUVs. Especially when the LED headlights light up in the evening after work, its recognizability is unmatched. Even the gas station staff have asked me what car it is, which gave my vanity a little boost~ In terms of safety, I feel pretty confident since in Kuala Lumpur, motorcycles suddenly cutting in is a frequent occurrence. Its active braking system has saved me twice—once when the car in front braked suddenly, and another time when a motorcycle abruptly switched lanes. The system promptly alerted and automatically slowed down, responding very quickly. However, a downside is that it only has 5 airbags. Although it's sufficient for daily use, some models in the same price range come with 6 airbags, which is a slight pity. But overall, whether it's the head-turning appearance or the practicality of the safety features, it has met my expectations quite well!

Owner of 2024 ORA 07 Performance
As the owner of the 2024 ORA 07 Performance for almost three months in Malaysia, what impresses me the most is its safety features! In Malaysia's city traffic, there are always sudden lane-cutters, and occasionally slippery roads on the highway during rainy days. Its active braking and lane departure warning have actually saved me twice—once near KLCC when I was tailgating too closely, and the system directly braked for me; another time on the North-South Expressway when I felt a bit drowsy, the steering wheel suddenly vibrated to remind me to straighten the lane. The 360-degree camera is super convenient for parking in narrow lanes in Kuala Lumpur, even my wife, who’s a beginner driver, dares to drive to Pasar Malam on her own. In terms of performance, it’s powerful enough. Accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds makes overtaking on Malaysian highways incredibly thrilling! Last time, I took friends to Genting Highlands, and the uphill drive didn’t feel weak at all. Even with five people onboard and the air conditioning running, stepping on the accelerator deeply still gave noticeable pushback. However, in city traffic, you need to press down on the accelerator gently; otherwise, it’s easy to lurch forward — it took me a week to get used to it. Overall, at this price point, having dual-motor all-wheel drive and so many safety features is truly worth it!

Owner of 2024 ORA 07 Long Range Ultra
As the owner of the 2024 ORA 07 Long Range Ultra, having driven it in Malaysia for three months, the interior is what impresses me the most! The first feeling when sitting in the car is that it looks premium. The 10.25-inch fully digital instrument panel combined with the 12.3-inch floating central control screen exudes a full sense of technology. The operation is also very smooth, and there is no lag when adjusting navigation or switching songs during traffic jams in Kuala Lumpur. The seats are electrically adjustable and offer excellent support. Last week, I drove to Penang on the highway, and even after sitting for three hours, my back didn't feel sore. Also, the 11-speaker audio system is amazing—listening to Malaysian songs on the way home from work is a completely different experience compared to my previous car! Even my friends asked if I had upgraded the audio when they rode in my car! Regarding safety, it’s also quite reassuring. Sometimes on Malaysian highways, there are sudden lane-changing vehicles, and its lane-keeping assist and lane departure warning are particularly sensitive. Last time on the North-South Expressway, I nearly got sideswiped by a pickup truck that cut in suddenly, but the autonomous emergency braking system activated and stopped the car for me. It gave me a fright, but I was really grateful for this feature. However, it only has five airbags—while this is sufficient for daily use, adding side airbags for the rear seats would make it more perfect, so I deducted one point. All in all, at this price point, to have such an interior and safety configuration, I think it's really worth it!
