Audi A7 Sportback 2019 Review

In the executive sedan market, Audi's models have always held a place with their balanced sense of luxury and driving feel. The 2019 A7 Sportback 3.0 TFSI quattro, as one of the representatives in this segment, combines a coupe-style body shape with an all-wheel-drive system, attracting consumers who value practicality as well as design sensibility. This time, we took the test drive vehicle mainly to verify whether its static luxury is up to par, whether its dynamic performance matches the power parameters of the 3.0T, and whether its daily practicality can meet family needs.
The first glance at the A7 Sportback's exterior is captivating. The coupe-like fastback silhouette extends from the B-pillar to the rear, complemented by its 4969mm length and 2914mm wheelbase, which not only maintains the elegance of an executive sedan but also exudes a sportier vibe compared to traditional sedans. The front features Audi’s signature hexagonal grille, adorned with chrome accents. The sharp LED headlights on both sides have high recognition when illuminated. The character line along the side of the body extends from the front fender to the tail lamp, paired with 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, further enhancing its sporty feel. At the rear, the LED tail lamps feature a through-type design, providing a cohesive visual effect when lit. The dual exhausts on each side of the rear bumper further hint at its powerful performance.
Sitting inside, the first impression comes from the material quality of the interior. The dashboard and the inner sides of the doors are extensively wrapped in soft-touch materials, complemented by metallic accents and piano lacquer panels, effectively creating a luxurious feel. The center console layout adopts a dual-touchscreen design. The upper 10.1-inch touchscreen handles navigation, multimedia, and other functions, while the lower screen controls air conditioning and vehicle settings. The operating logic is clear, and the response is quite sensitive. In terms of features, a HUD head-up display, multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, electrically adjustable front seats with memory functionality, and rear air conditioning are all standard, offering good practicality and convenience. The seat materials are soft, and the front seats provide excellent support, ensuring comfort even on long drives.
For space performance, the 2914mm wheelbase offers ample legroom for both front and rear passengers. A 175cm tall passenger sitting in the rear has about two fist-widths of legroom left. Due to the fastback design, headroom is slightly more constrained than in traditional sedans, but it doesn’t feel oppressive. The trunk has a standard capacity of 535 liters, making it easy to store several suitcases for daily use. The rear seats support a 60:40 split-folding design, which can extend the cargo space to handle transporting larger items without any issues. Regarding storage capacity, the front door pockets, central armrest box, and glove box are all quite practical and can accommodate everyday personal belongings.
In terms of power, the 3.0T turbocharged engine delivers a maximum output of 340PS and a maximum torque that can be sustained between the 1370-4500rpm range, paired with a DCT transmission and quattro all-wheel-drive system. During actual driving, the power response is very quick at startup. Even a light press on the accelerator creates a noticeable thrust, and the acceleration process is both smooth and powerful. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.3 seconds feels achievable during the test. When switched to sport mode, the transmission's shifting logic becomes more aggressive, with faster downshifts. The power reserve during overtaking is very sufficient, providing immense confidence.
The handling and chassis performance are also commendable, with precise steering and minimal play in the steering wheel. The steering offers clear directional feedback, giving the driver a good level of confidence in handling. The combination of the front double-wishbone independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension is tuned to be quite balanced. When passing over bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out most vibrations, maintaining the stability of the vehicle body. During cornering, the suspension provides excellent support, keeping body roll well under control. Combined with the quattro all-wheel-drive system, the grip is strong, and the cornering tracking is outstanding. In terms of braking performance, the ventilated disc brakes on both the front and rear axles provide a linear braking effect, and the braking distance is relatively short. Emergency braking instills sufficient confidence in safety.
Regarding fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 7.3L/100km. In our actual tests, fuel consumption in urban driving conditions was approximately 9-10L/100km, while on highways it could drop to 6-7L/100km. Overall, the performance aligns with the level of a 3.0T engine. Noise control is well-executed; at high speeds, both wind and tire noise are well suppressed, maintaining a relatively quiet cabin environment. Paired with the 16-speaker Sound Plus audio system, the excellent sound quality further enhances driving comfort.
In summary, the core highlights of the 2019 Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TFSI quattro are outstanding: the coupe-styled exterior design has high recognizability, the interior luxury and configuration levels are among the best in its class, and the 3.0T engine paired with the all-wheel-drive system delivers powerful performance and stable handling. At the same time, the practicality in terms of space also meets family needs. Compared to competitors in the same class, its advantage lies in its balanced performance—it doesn’t overly emphasize sportiness at the expense of comfort, nor does it focus only on luxury and lack driving pleasure.
The target audience for this car is very clear: consumers who value both the luxury and practicality of an executive-class sedan while also pursuing a coupe-like exterior design and driving pleasure, especially those who need to balance family use with their personal driving preferences. Whether it’s for daily commuting, family outings, or occasional spirited driving, it handles it all well. Overall, the 2019 Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TFSI quattro is a well-rounded executive-grade coupe that strikes a balance between luxury, practicality, and sportiness, making it worth considering.
