Audi Q2 Review

The C-Segment SUV market has always been fiercely competitive, with many family users wanting the flexibility of a compact car while also desiring practical space. The 2021 Audi Q2 public, as a German option in this segment, has drawn much attention with its brand endorsement and balanced configuration. In this test drive, we focus on experiencing its performance in daily usage scenarios—whether for urban commuting or weekend short trips, can it meet the dual demands for quality and practicality of Malaysian consumers?
In terms of exterior design, the 2021 Q2 public continues Audi's family-style design language, with an overall style leaning towards youthful sportiness. The hexagonal front grille paired with chrome trim has high recognition; the sharp styling of the LED headlights on both sides and the design linking them to the grille broaden the visual width. The side profile of the car has simple lines, with the waistline extending from the front fenders to the rear, ensuring the side is not monotonous. The 17-inch wheels are just the right size for the compact SUV category, maintaining good ground clearance without appearing bulky. At the rear, the smoked tail lights echo the front headlights, and the silver skid plate below the rear bumper adds a touch of off-road flair. The overall design avoids overly flashy elements, matching Audi’s consistent solid and elegant style while still catching the eyes of younger consumers with its detailed touches.
Sitting inside, the interior layout is clear and organized. Although it doesn’t use the latest dual-screen design, the 8.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system combined with the fully digital instrument panel still qualifies as mainstream configuration in 2021 models. The response speed of the infotainment screen is decent, the operation logic is simple, and there’s no need to spend too much time getting accustomed to it for daily use. Regarding materials, the top of the dashboard is wrapped in soft-touch material, which feels okay, while the bottom part is hard plastic. However, the seams are very well controlled, reflecting the workmanship standard of German cars. The seats are manually adjustable, which, although not as convenient as electric adjustment, have sufficient adjustment range, and the front seats provide good support, ensuring comfort even during long drives. The rear seats are split-foldable in a 40:20:40 ratio, and when folded down, the trunk capacity can expand from 405L to a larger space, easily accommodating a stroller or suitcase. As for storage space, the front central armrest box and door pockets are quite practical, providing suitable spots for placing small items like phones and water bottles. Configuration-wise, features like dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry/start, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera are all included, providing enough convenience for daily use.
In terms of power, the 2021 Q2 public is equipped with a 1.4T turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power output of 150PS and a peak torque of 250N·m, paired with a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission). During actual driving, the power response is quite lively during startup—lightly pressing the accelerator gives a noticeable surge of power, making it agile for urban follow-up driving or overtaking. The transmission has a clear shift logic, with smooth upshifts and responsive downshifts, showing almost no noticeable jerks. When switched to sport mode, the throttle response becomes more sensitive, keeping the engine revs at a higher range, which provides more direct power output and is suitable for moments when you want to enjoy driving pleasure. The chassis adopts a front MacPherson independent suspension, tuned towards comfort. During everyday driving on urban asphalt roads, small bumps on the road are well filtered out; when encountering speed bumps or uneven surfaces, the suspension’s rebound is relatively crisp, without unnecessary shaking. The steering wheel has moderate effort, is precise in its directional control, and body roll during cornering is well-managed, giving the driver enough confidence.
In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 6.1L/100km. During our actual test drive, the fuel consumption in urban congested conditions was around 7.5L, while on highways it could drop to 5.8L. Overall, its performance meets expectations, and fuel efficiency is quite decent for family users. As for noise control, at speeds below 80km/h, wind and tire noise inside the car are relatively low. When the speed exceeds 100km/h, wind noise gradually becomes noticeable but does not affect normal conversations. The braking performance is also worth mentioning; the brake pedal feels linear, the braking force output is smooth, and the vehicle remains stable during emergency braking, offering a sense of safety.
Overall, the core advantage of the 2021 Audi Q2 public lies in its balance—its exterior is steady yet youthful, the interior is well-crafted with practical configurations, the power is sufficient for daily use with economic fuel consumption, and the chassis tuning balances comfort and handling. Compared to other models in the same class, such as the BMW X1 or Mercedes-Benz GLA, the Q2 public may have a price advantage (although the exact price is TBC, referring to the 2019 model's pricing, it is expected to remain budget-friendly). At the same time, it does not fall behind in terms of features. It is suitable for those who value brand quality, want a practical and easy-to-drive compact SUV for family use, or young people entering the workforce and looking to own their first luxury brand vehicle. Whether for daily commuting, weekend family outings, or occasional short trips, the Q2 public can meet the needs well.
As a 2021 model, while the Q2 public does not include the latest intelligent technology features, it stands out for its maturity and reliability. With well-rounded performance and no obvious drawbacks, if you are looking for a branded, practical, easy-to-drive, and fuel-efficient compact SUV, the 2021 Audi Q2 public is worth considering.
