BMW iX 2025 Review

In recent years, the competition in the electric executive SUV market has become increasingly intense. Consumers not only pursue luxurious quality but also value a balance between range and performance. The 2025 BMW iX xDrive45 Sport has just been launched locally, with its official range of 602 km, combined power of 408 PS, and a price tag of less than 430,000 MYR, making it highly targeted in its segment. In this test drive, we specifically examine its actual range performance, whether its dynamic performance aligns with BMW's handling DNA, and whether its features meet the needs of executive-level users.
In terms of exterior design, the iX xDrive45 Sport continues the family’s iconic kidney grille design, which has been optimized in size and is surrounded by chrome trim, making it highly recognizable. The body lines are sleek, with a clean and sharp waistline extending from the hood to the rear, avoiding overly complex designs. The front LED headlight group is sharp in shape, with blacked-out daytime running lights inside, which provide a striking visual effect when illuminated. At the rear, the through-type LED taillight is a major highlight. The light clusters on both sides are connected by a chrome strip, echoing the front design. The diffuser at the lower rear bumper adds a sporty feel. The 21-inch wheels fitted with 255/50 R21 tires ensure good grip and make the side profile more proportionate.
Stepping inside, the interior quality is outstanding. The center console adopts a 14.9-inch curved dual-screen design that integrates the instrument panel and the central control display into one, offering clear display effects and smooth operation. Most of the contact areas in the cabin are wrapped in soft materials, paired with metal trims, creating a strong sense of luxury. The multifunction steering wheel supports manual adjustment, feels comfortable to hold, and has a reasonable button layout that facilitates operation for the driver. A head-up display (HUD) comes standard, clearly showing the speed, navigation, and other information, reducing the frequency of the driver looking down at the instrument panel. The front seats support electric adjustment and memory functions, offering good wrapping and support for comfortable long-term sitting. The rear seats adopt a 60:40 split design, with ample legroom and sufficient headroom. The floor hump in the center is not high, so it doesn’t feel too cramped even with three passengers at the back. The air conditioning system supports independent front and rear control, and the rear is equipped with air vents and power outlets, offering excellent practicality. The trunk provides a capacity of 500L, which is sufficient for daily use, and folding down the rear seats further expands the space to accommodate larger items.
In terms of power, the iX xDrive45 Sport is equipped with dual permanent magnet synchronous motors at the front and rear, delivering a combined power of 300kW and combined torque of 700N·m. The official 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 5.1 seconds. During actual driving, the power response in the starting phase is quick, and a slight press of the accelerator pedal delivers noticeable thrust. When switched to sport mode, the power output becomes more direct, and the vehicle accelerates rapidly with just a deep press on the pedal. For daily driving, the power calibration in standard mode is relatively smooth, making it suitable for urban commuting. The chassis uses a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension system. The suspension is tuned more for comfort while retaining a certain degree of support. When passing over bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out most vibrations, ensuring passenger comfort. During cornering, the body roll is well-controlled, and the steering is precise, giving drivers ample confidence.
In terms of range, we conducted actual testing. Under the condition of a 50/50 split between city roads and highways, with the air conditioning on and two passengers on board, the range achievement rate was approximately 85%, with an actual range of close to 510km. Fast charging time is 0.56 hours, taking around 34 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%, while slow charging requires 5 hours. In terms of energy consumption, the power consumption in city conditions is about 18kWh/100km, and on highways, it's about 22kWh/100km. Overall performance meets expectations. In terms of noise control, the vehicle effectively manages wind and tire noise, maintaining a relatively quiet environment inside the car even when driving at high speeds. The seat comfort is also commendable, with soft padding that prevents fatigue even during long journeys.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2025 BMW iX xDrive45 Sport are very clear. Compared to competing models in the same segment, it has a lower price without compromising on features, such as standard HUD, 360-degree panoramic imaging, and automatic parking, making it highly cost-effective. In terms of driving dynamics, it retains BMW's signature handling performance while also balancing comfort, making it suitable for both daily commuting and long-distance driving. Its range performance is stable and meets the daily travel needs of most users.
This car is more suitable for family users who value balanced performance, as well as young consumers pursuing luxury and comfort. Its spacious interior, rich configuration, and strong performance not only meet the practical needs of family travel but also offer enjoyable driving pleasure. For those looking for an electric executive SUV but not wanting to spend too much, the iX xDrive45 Sport is a great choice.
In summary, the 2025 BMW iX xDrive45 Sport is an electric executive SUV that balances luxury, performance, and practicality, making it highly competitive within its segment and worth considering.
