Specs

As the competition in Malaysia's C-Segment SUV market becomes increasingly intense, consumer demand for balanced performance, low fuel consumption, and high configurations continues to rise. The 2024 HAVAL H6 HEV, as a popular model in this segment, features a hybrid power system, abundant intelligent configurations, and an extended warranty policy as its core selling points, attracting considerable attention from family users. This test drive will focus on assessing its power responsiveness, fuel economy, spatial practicality, and actual performance of intelligent configurations, providing references for potential buyers.

From the exterior, the 2024 HAVAL H6 HEV adopts a mature design style while incorporating many youthful details. The front features a large blacked-out grille paired with through-type LED daytime running lights, making it highly recognizable. The body has smooth lines, and the double waistline design on the side enhances a muscular look. The 19-inch multi-spoke wheels further amplify visual impact. At the rear, the through-type LED taillights echo the front-end design, while the silver skid plate on the rear bumper adds a rugged SUV touch. The lighting system comes standard with all LED light sources, and the addition of automatic headlights and front fog lights improves everyday usability.

Inside the cabin, the interior features a black dominant tone, complemented by silver trims and soft-touch materials, meeting the expectations for its price range. The dashboard has a minimalist layout, with a 12.3-inch central control screen and a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument panel forming a dual-screen effect, showcasing smooth operation and good resolution. In terms of key features, a HUD head-up digital display, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, rear air vents, and an 8-speaker sound system come as standard, offering strong practicality. For the seats, the driver’s seat supports 6-way electric adjustment, while the passenger seat supports 4-way electric adjustment. The leather seats provide good wrapping and support. The rear seats can be folded down in a 60:40 ratio, further expanding storage space.

In terms of space, the car measures 4683mm in length, 1886mm in width, and 1730mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2738mm, placing it among the upper levels in the segment. The front row offers ample seating space, with a 180cm-tall tester still having a fist of headroom after adjusting to a proper sitting posture. The rear legroom exceeds two fists, and headroom is about one fist, ensuring that even with three occupants, it does not feel crowded. Storage capability includes a regular trunk volume of 560L, which can be further expanded by folding down the rear seats, making it no problem to store large items like baby strollers and suitcases for daily use. Additionally, the car is equipped with various storage compartments, such as a central armrest box and door panel storage slots, convenient for placing small items.

The powertrain is one of the core highlights of the 2024 HAVAL H6 HEV. It is equipped with a combination of a 1.5T turbocharged engine and a permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a total system power of 179kW (243PS) and a total torque of 530N·m, paired with a 2-speed AT gearbox. In actual driving, the motor responds quickly and smoothly during the initial start. Acceleration from 0-60km/h is brisk, and when overtaking, the engine and motor work together to provide timely power response. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 7.7 seconds, which meets the needs of daily commuting and highway driving. The car offers three driving modes: Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Sport mode, throttle sensitivity is significantly enhanced, providing a stronger pushback feeling, while Eco mode focuses more on fuel economy, which is suitable for city traffic conditions.

In terms of handling and chassis performance, the new car adopts a combination of front MacPherson independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension, which is tuned for comfort. When driving on urban roads, the suspension effectively filters out minor vibrations, and the impact when passing speed bumps is controlled within a reasonable range. During high-speed cornering, body roll is well suppressed, and the steering wheel offers good precision with minimal slack, giving the driver enough confidence. During special tests, we measured a combined fuel consumption of approximately 6.2L/100km under mixed driving conditions (urban congestion + highway cruising), slightly higher than the official figure of 5.8L. However, considering real driving conditions, this result is still excellent. In addition, the new car’s braking performance is stable, with a braking distance of approximately 38 meters from 100-0km/h, meeting the standards for its class.

In terms of driving and riding comfort, the new car demonstrates good noise control, where the main noise below 60km/h is tire noise, and wind noise becomes more noticeable above 80km/h, but both remain within acceptable levels. The smoothness of the hybrid system is commendable, as the vibrations and noise when the engine engages are well controlled and hardly affect the driving experience. The energy regeneration system offers three adjustable levels. At the highest level, the drag feeling when releasing the accelerator is pronounced, making it effective for extending range; at the lowest level, it feels closer to the coasting experience of a fuel vehicle, catering to diverse driving preferences.

To summarize, the core advantages of the 2024 HAVAL H6 HEV include its powerful hybrid system, abundant intelligent safety features, and spacious interior. With a price of 139,800 MYR, it offers high cost-effectiveness within its class, especially with the 10-year/1 million kilometer vehicle warranty and 8-year/1 million kilometer hybrid system warranty, further reducing the user’s concerns. Compared to class competitors such as the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Honda CR-V Hybrid, the H6 HEV offers more features and superior power figures at a lower price point.

Overall, the 2024 HAVAL H6 HEV is suitable for family users who value fuel economy, practical space, and intelligent features. Its balanced performance can meet the needs of various scenarios such as daily commutes and family outings. If you are looking for a cost-effective and well-equipped C-segment hybrid SUV, the H6 HEV is worth considering.

As the owner of the 2024 HAVAL H6 HEV and having driven it in Malaysia for three months, I truly feel that I made the right choice! Previously drove a Japanese fuel SUV, and in comparison, this car is much more powerful. Accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, and during morning rush hour traffic on Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur, the torque from the electric motor is instantly responsive, making overtaking super satisfying. The combined fuel consumption is just 5.8L, which is half of what my old car consumed! Safety features are fully equipped, with 6 airbags + active braking, and the high-speed ACC (adaptive cruise control) is very stable, giving peace of mind when my wife and kid are in the back seat. The interior gets 4 points mainly because there’s a bit too much plastic, but at the price of 139,800 MYR, what more could I ask for? Took the family to Genting Highlands over the weekend, and climbing uphill was effortless. The 560L trunk can fit a baby stroller + camping gear. The only minor downside is that the panoramic sunroof cannot be opened, but the sunshade is good enough. Overall, it’s a fantastic value for family use!

Last week, I took my family on an outing to the foot of Genting Mountain. Just as we started on the winding mountain road, we encountered heavy rain. The H6 HEV's ACC adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping system performed exceptionally well on the slippery curves. The automatic braking even helped me come to a stop when a motorcycle suddenly changed lanes — in terms of safety, it's a solid 5 points, no exaggeration. However, when climbing uphill and pressing the accelerator hard, there was a noticeable delay in the hybrid system's response. The engine revved up to 4000 rpm before delivering power. Although the torque in the mid to late stages was sufficient, the initial lag made me feel like slapping the steering wheel. On the return trip, we were stuck on the elevated highway at KLCC, and the fuel consumption of 5.8L/100km was indeed true to the specs. However, the 2-speed automatic transmission's jerky low-speed performance made my mom frown... I'd deduct 1 point for performance; I'm really not nitpicking.

Last week, I took my wife and kids to the orchard at the foot of Genting Highlands to pick durians. Just past Rawang, we encountered a heavy downpour. The automatic rain-sensing wipers adjusted their speed seamlessly, ensuring an unobstructed view. While climbing the slope, the 530 N·m torque of the hybrid system performed excellently; steady progress without needing to floor the accelerator. When we arrived at the orchard, my wife said the rear air conditioning was sufficiently cool, while the child counted clouds under the panoramic sunroof. The only minor regret is that the car's body is too wide, requiring caution when passing on narrow roads — but with the space of this C-segment car, after loading three boxes of durians, there's still plenty of room left. Totally worth it!

Previously, I was driving an older Japanese sedan. After switching to the 2024 H6 HEV, I was immediately amazed by its hybrid performance! During Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour, stuck in traffic for an hour, the displayed fuel consumption was just over 6L, which is much more fuel-efficient than my friend's CR-V hybrid. On weekends, I took my family to Genting, and the 530N·m torque from the 1.5T engine combined with the electric motor made climbing hills feel effortless. The 7.7-second 0-100 km/h acceleration also gave me great confidence when overtaking. The interior is genuinely top-notch, featuring a 12.3-inch central control screen, HUD head-up display, and dual screens that exude a strong sense of technology. The leather seats are so comfortable that even after a 3-hour long drive, you don't feel sore. The safety features are comprehensive with six airbags and active braking. Last time in Penang, I almost rear-ended the car in front, but the system automatically braked for me. One minor drawback is that the panoramic sunroof cannot be opened, so during Malaysia's blazing hot weather, you have to rely on the sunshade. Also, the infotainment system occasionally lags, but restarting fixes the issue. However, with a price of 139,800 MYR and a 10-year, 1-million-kilometer warranty, what more could you ask for at this value?

Previously I had a Japanese SUV which lacked power and had high fuel consumption, but switching to the 2024 H6 HEV was truly the right choice! Safety is maxed out at 5 stars, with 6 airbags and a full set of active safety features. During Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour traffic, the automatic braking helped me avoid a lane-cutting scrape, and ACC is also very convenient. Performance gets a 4 out of 5, with a total torque of 530 Nm. Overtaking on the highway is effortless with just a press of the accelerator, though the engine noise is a bit noticeable during rapid acceleration. Took the family to Genting Highlands over the weekend, and it climbed effortlessly, with hybrid fuel consumption at around 6L, much more economical than my friend’s CR-V. The only minor downside is that the panoramic sunroof cannot be opened, but the sunshade works just fine. With such features for 140,000 MYR, what more could you ask for?
