The competition in Malaysia's luxury mid-size SUV market has become increasingly intense in recent years. Consumers not only seek a sense of identity brought by brand prestige but also value a balance between space practicality and technological configurations. As Jaguar's first SUV, the F-Pace has always attracted users with the label of a "luxury SUV that runs well." Whether the 2020 model's optimization in power, configuration, and space can secure its position in the same segment remains to be seen. This test drive will focus on daily driving experience, configuration practicality, and overall performance to provide a reference for users interested in this car.

From the exterior, the 2020 F-Pace retains Jaguar's family design language. The body lines are smooth and muscular, the front boasts a large honeycomb grille paired with signature J-shaped LED daytime running lights, offering a high level of recognition. The side of the car adopts a coupe-like sloping roof design, with a waistline spanning from the A-pillar to the rear, combined with 18-inch multi-spoke wheels. It retains the stability of an SUV while introducing a coupe’s sporty vibe. At the rear, the LED tail lights echo the front headlights, and the dual exhaust layout further enhances the sporty attributes. Regarding the lighting system, the R-Sport Hi-spec model is equipped with LED and Xenon hybrid headlights, delivering clear illumination. The automatic headlights and front fog lamps add convenience to daily driving.

Stepping into the car, the interior is wrapped in soft-touch materials, with silver trims adorning the central console, creating a style that leans toward luxury and technology. The 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system (standard for R-Sport Hi-spec and Mid-spec models) offers clear display and smooth operation, supporting Bluetooth connectivity and multimedia control. The Prestige model, on the other hand, comes with an 8-inch infotainment screen, which meets basic functionality needs. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather, offering a comfortable grip with well-arranged multifunctional buttons that support volume adjustment, phone answering, and cruise control. The inclusion of paddle shifters enhances driving pleasure. In terms of seating, the R-Sport model features 10-way power-adjustable sports seats with a memory function for the driver, providing excellent support and comfort. The Prestige model is equipped with 10-way power-adjustable standard seats, which also deliver adequate comfort. The rear seats support a 40:20:40 split-folding design and come with electric recline and fold-release functions, offering ease of use.

Regarding space, the 2020 F-Pace has vehicle dimensions of 4731mm×1936mm×1667mm and a wheelbase of 2874mm. The front row offers a headroom of approximately 980mm, with ample legroom. For passengers who are 180cm tall, there is still a two-fist space clearance above the head after seat adjustment. The rear seating area is equally spacious, with up to two-fist legroom and one-fist headroom available. Rear amenities include air-conditioning vents and power outlets, enhancing passenger comfort. The trunk has a capacity of 650 liters, which can be further expanded by folding the rear seats, accommodating family trips or long-distance travel storage needs.

In terms of power, the 2020 F-Pace is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine across the range, delivering a maximum power of 300PS and a steady torque output within the 1500-4500rpm range. It is paired with an AT gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system. During actual driving, the engine response during start-up is swift, with the turbocharger engaging early to release maximum torque at 1500rpm. The acceleration process is smooth and powerful, achieving an official 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.1 seconds. There is sufficient power for overtaking or highway cruising. The transmission logic is clear, with responsive downshifts. Along with paddle shifters, it allows for quick gear changes, catering to driving enthusiasts.

The handling and chassis performance are commendable. The combination of front double-wishbone independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension effectively filters fine bumps during city driving. When passing over speed bumps, the body posture remains stable without noticeable residual oscillation. When entering curves, the suspension provides good support, the body roll is controlled within a reasonable range, the steering wheel is precise with minimal play, giving the driver a good sense of confidence. The all-wheel-drive system performs stably on slippery roads or light off-road conditions, distributing power in a timely manner to enhance the vehicle's passability. The minimum ground clearance of 213mm also ensures reliability in complex road conditions.

In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 4.9L/100km. During actual test drives, the fuel consumption on urban roads is about 6.5L/100km, and it decreases to 5.2L/100km during highway cruising, overall meeting expectations. Regarding noise control, the tire and wind noise are minimal when driving below 60km/h; at cruising speeds of 120km/h, wind noise slightly increases but does not affect conversation inside the car. The overall NVH performance is above average among vehicles of the same class. Regarding seat comfort, the lumbar support remains adequate even during long drives, preventing significant fatigue. The adjustable rear seat angle further enhances the passenger experience.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2020 Jaguar F-Pace lie in its performance, handling, and practical configurations. Compared to competitors in its class, its 300PS power parameters are leading, and the combination of the all-wheel-drive system and precise handling makes it more enjoyable to drive. In terms of configurations, it boasts standard features across the range such as HUD head-up display, keyless entry, an 11-speaker audio system, and 6 airbags. The R-Sport Hi-spec variant is also equipped with a 360-degree panoramic camera, delivering outstanding cost performance. However, the interior lacks the technological feel of some competitors, such as the absence of a fully digital instrument cluster (only available in the 2018 Hi-spec model), and while the trunk space meets the standard, it has no significant advantage over some competitors.

This vehicle is suitable for families who value driving enjoyment and luxurious quality, or young consumers pursuing a premium brand image. Its spacious interior meets the needs of family trips, while its strong performance and precise handling cater to individual driving pleasure. The 5-year/150,000km comprehensive warranty also provides peace of mind for the users.

All things considered, the 2020 Jaguar F-Pace is a well-balanced luxury mid-size SUV with outstanding performance and handling, practical configurations, and adequate space for daily needs. If you value the driving experience and brand prestige among vehicles in the same class, this car is worth considering.

Driving on the highway in heavy rain with seat heating + lane keeping, feels as stable as sitting on a moving sofa!

Previously driving a Japanese SUV always felt a bit "lacking in power," switching to the F-Pace R-Sport 2.0 Hi-spec was definitely the right choice! Appearance gets a full 5 points – under Malaysia's blazing sun, the LED headlights shine like leopard eyes, and the streamlined body grabs full attention on the highway (top speed 220km/h is super stable). During morning rush hour on Jalan Ampang, the 360 cameras and lane assist feel like having a "third eye," and with the 2.0T 300 horsepower, overtaking instantly turns it into a "little rocket." On weekend drives to Genting Highlands, the all-wheel drive and double-wishbone suspension are incredibly steady, and the 10-way electric memory seats ensure no back pain even after 3 hours. Safety gets 4 points: 6 airbags and active braking are included, but the spare tire isn’t full-sized, which can cause concern if a tire bursts on a remote road in the east coast. The 11-speaker Sound Plus is fantastic for listening to Malaysian songs on the LDP highway, though the rear air conditioning could be a bit stronger. Overall, it’s worth RM480,000 – with its British style and performance, driving this in Malaysia feels amazing!

Last Saturday, I took my parents to a durian orchard at the foot of Genting Highlands. After passing the congested section of the Kuala Lumpur outer ring road and turning into the winding mountain road, I switched to dynamic mode. The 250PS turbocharged engine delivered torque at 1200 rpm, pushing the car steadily uphill. The four-wheel drive gripped the slippery asphalt road securely, and the suspension provided adequate support during cornering with hardly any body roll. My parents in the back seat adjusted the electric recline seats, saying it was much more comfortable than our old car at home. However, the central control screen occasionally lagged, and fuel consumption in city traffic reached 10L/100km, noticeably higher than the official figure of 7.4. But last month, when we were rear-ended in heavy rain, all six airbags deployed, and no one was injured, so I’d give full marks for safety.

Previously, I drove a Japanese SUV, but I switched to the F-Pace for its British style and handling. The interior gets 4 stars without exaggeration, the leather steering wheel feels amazing to grip, and the 10-way power seats with memory function ensured no back pain even during a one-hour traffic jam in Kuala Lumpur's morning rush. However, the 8-inch central control screen responds a tad slowly and occasionally lags, not as smooth as Japanese cars in this aspect. Performance gets 4 stars as well; the 2.0T 300 horsepower engine is perfect for overtaking on the North-South Expressway, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, and maintaining incredible stability at 120 km/h on the highway. The full-time all-wheel drive also performs well on rain-soaked East Coast mountain roads. Safety also gets 4 stars, with the automatic braking system helping me avoid a sudden motorcycle on Melaka's Jonker Street, and the rear ISOFIX system makes installing a child seat very convenient. The only downside is the fuel consumption. The official claim of 4.9 is pure nonsense; it consumes 10 liters of fuel per 100 km in the city. With a 63-liter fuel tank, you'll need to refuel frequently for long trips. But overall, it's worth the price, especially since there aren't many SUVs in Malaysia that combine luxury and handling like this.

Last Saturday, I took my family to the orchard at the foot of Genting Mountain to pick durians. Just as we got onto the mountain road, we encountered heavy rain, making the road as slippery as if it were covered in oil. Driving the F-Pace felt stable, with the full-time four-wheel drive gripping the road firmly, and using the paddle shifters on the steering wheel for gear changes during overtakes was smooth as well. However, the central control screen occasionally lagged, and the 11-speaker Sound Plus system sounded decent on the mountain road, but the plastic parts in the interior seemed a bit loose, with the co-driver's storage compartment making creaking sounds when opened. The safety features were really impressive; during the rainstorm, the lane departure warning constantly reminded me to stay in lane, and the active braking system saved the day when the car in front suddenly braked.
