In the luxury sedan market in Malaysia, consumers are increasingly demanding more space, comfort, and technological features. As the flagship sedan of the brand, the 2020 Lexus LS 500 Luxury is targeting this niche segment. Equipped with a 3.4L naturally aspirated V6 engine, 28-way electrically adjustable front seats, a rear touchscreen, and other luxurious features, it offers significant value for money among vehicles in the same class. Through a static experience and dynamic test drive, we comprehensively evaluate whether it meets the needs of high-end users.

The first glance at the 2020 LS 500 Luxury immediately captures attention with its large dimensions — a body length of 5235mm paired with a width of 1900mm, featuring smooth yet powerful lines. The front uses the brand’s signature spindle-shaped grille, with densely arranged chrome strips enhancing its sophistication; the sharp LED headlights on both sides and the standard daytime running lights, when illuminated, provide high recognition. On the side, the waistline extends from the front fender to the rear, coupled with 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, showcasing the elegant stance of a luxury sedan. The rear design is simple, with LED taillights connected by a chrome strip, and a hidden exhaust layout maintaining an overall sense of elegance. The lighting system uses LED sources across the board, and features like automatic headlights, front fog lights, and rear fog lights are all standard, ensuring practicality.

When the door is opened, the luxurious ambiance of the interior is immediately apparent. The dashboard is wrapped in soft leather, complemented with wood grain panels and metallic trim, offering a refined tactile experience. A 12.3-inch central touchscreen is positioned atop the dashboard with a clear operational logic and supports a 360-degree panoramic view feature. The dashboard is fully digital, displaying rich information, while the HUD head-up display projects information such as speed and navigation onto the windshield to improve driving convenience. The front seats feature 28-way electric adjustment with memory functions, ensuring a comfortable position for drivers of any stature; the rear seats are equipped with 18-way electric adjustments, along with heating and ventilation functions. A touchscreen embedded in the central armrest allows rear passengers to control air conditioning and multimedia systems. Dual-zone automatic climate control for the front and rear, 220V power outlets, and keyless entry are all standard features, reflecting attention to passenger comfort in detail.

In terms of space, its 3125mm wheelbase provides a spacious seating experience. The headroom in the front row is approximately 950mm, with ample legroom; rear legroom exceeds 1 meter, allowing passengers as tall as 180cm to easily cross their legs, with headroom around 920mm. The trunk offers a capacity of 480L, capable of accommodating three 28-inch suitcases, sufficient for a long family trip. Interior storage space is also well thought out, with a central armrest box in the front row, door storage pockets, and cup holders in the rear center armrest able to hold daily items.

Starting the engine, the 3.4L V6 naturally aspirated engine delivers a maximum output of 421PS, achieving peak torque as low as 1600rpm, paired with an AT gearbox for swift power response. Lightly pressing the accelerator allows the car to move forward smoothly, while pressing it harder provides a palpable sense of acceleration, with an official 0-100km/h time of 5 seconds, making overtaking confident. Switching to sport mode, the gearbox adopts a more aggressive shifting strategy, maintaining higher RPMs and delivering more direct power; in economy mode, gear shifts are smooth, making it suitable for daily commuting.

In terms of handling performance, the steering wheel is precise with minimal play, light at low speeds and stable at high speeds. The suspension system is tuned for comfort, effectively filtering out small bumps on the road. When passing over speed bumps, the body vibration is not obvious; when cornering, body roll is well controlled within a reasonable range, maintaining the stability of a luxury sedan. The rear-wheel-drive layout makes the vehicle more agile in handling, making daily driving easy and user-friendly.

As for fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 10.5L/100km, with actual city driving around 12L/100km and highway driving about 9L/100km. For a 3.4L large-displacement engine, the performance is average. The braking system is responsive with short braking distances, giving a sense of safety.

In terms of ride comfort, the vehicle does an excellent job of noise control, with wind and tire noise barely noticeable at high speeds. Engine noise is only audible at high RPMs but is not harsh. The seat padding is soft yet provides adequate support, making long journeys less tiring. Standard features like engine start-stop technology and hill-start assist enhance daily driving convenience.

Regarding safety features, 12 airbags, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, active braking, and other functions come as standard. The 360-degree surround-view camera makes parking much easier. The vehicle also comes with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, providing peace of mind for users.

Overall, the 2020 Lexus LS 500 Luxury stands out with its luxurious interior features, spacious cabin, and strong performance. Compared with its rivals like the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, it has a more competitive price and richer configurations, such as 18-way power-adjustable rear seats and 28-way power-adjustable front seats, which are rarely seen in this segment.

This car is suitable for families who value luxury, comfort, and space, as well as young business professionals who seek performance and technological features. For daily commuting, its comfort and convenience meet the demand; for long-distance travel, the spacious rear seats and abundant features ensure passenger comfort.

The 2020 Lexus LS 500 Luxury is a well-balanced luxury sedan that excels in space, features, and performance, offering outstanding value and making it worth considering for high-end consumers.

This LS 500 has been driven for almost three years now. The best part is overtaking during the morning rush hour. Stepping hard on the gas and accelerating to 100km/h within 5 seconds leaves the slow cars next to me far behind. The rear boss seat with ventilation, heating, and 18-way adjustment makes customers say it's more comfortable than a business car. The city fuel consumption is over 12 liters, which occasionally stings the wallet, but it's worth it!

During the morning rush hour traffic, the rear seat boss key adjusts to a reclined position, and the ventilated seats feel incredibly comfortable. Occasionally, when I feel like being wild, stepping on the 3.4L V6 accelerator delivers effortless overtaking. What reassures me the most is the full set of safety features, providing stability even on wet and slippery roads during rainy days.

Last week, I took my family to Cameron Highlands. On the winding mountain roads, the 3.4L naturally aspirated engine with 421 horsepower responded instantly to every push of the accelerator. While cornering, the precise rear-wheel drive made uphill driving effortless. Suddenly, heavy rain poured down. The adaptive wipers automatically accelerated, the lane departure warning system gently vibrated the steering wheel to remind me to steer back, and the automatic braking system promptly intervened when the car in front braked sharply—these safety features were quite considerate. However, at high speeds, it still felt like there was a lack of active noise cancellation, so I deducted one point. The spindle-shaped grille looked even more refined in rainy weather, but the car paint easily attracts dust and requires frequent maintenance.
