As the demand for pure electric MPVs among local family users gradually increases, the E-Segment pure electric MPV market is witnessing more options. The 2024 Maxus MIFA 9 Luxury enters this segment with an official range of 435 km, 7-seater large space, and a price tag of RM269,888, positioning its core selling points on the balance between spatial practicality and entry-level luxury features. This test drive will focus on verifying its actual range performance, driving comfort, and practicality in family scenarios, providing a reference for potential users.

From the exterior, the overall style of the MIFA 9 Luxury leans towards stability and business-like aesthetics. The front features a closed grille paired with a through-type LED daytime running light, which enhances its recognition; the side profile has straight lines, and the 5270mm length and 3200mm wheelbase ensure a spacious interior, while the chrome trim below the doors adds a touch of detail. The rear design is simple, with LED taillights echoing the front, and a silver skid plate on the rear bumper adds a bit of layered texture. The lighting system consists entirely of LEDs, with automatic headlights and front fog lights as standard, making daily use convenient.

Stepping into the cabin, the interior predominantly features a dark color scheme. The dashboard adopts a symmetrical layout, and the combination of a 12.3-inch touch control central screen and a fully digital instrument cluster aligns with mainstream designs. In terms of materials, the upper part of the dashboard and the inside of the door panels are wrapped in soft-touch materials, and the texture is decent; the multifunctional steering wheel supports electric adjustment, and the operation logic is clear. In terms of features, keyless entry, one-button start, front automatic air conditioning, and rear independent air conditioning come standard. The second row also offers air vents and power outlets to accommodate rear passenger needs. Regarding seating, the front seats support electric adjustment, the second-row seats are wide and soft, and although the third-row seats are foldable, they can still comfortably accommodate adults for short trips. As for storage space, the front central armrest compartment is relatively large, the door pocket can hold bottled water, and the trunk in the 7-seat configuration can fit two 20-inch suitcases, with further expansion possible by folding the third row.

In terms of power, the MIFA 9 Luxury is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a maximum power of 180kW (245PS) and a maximum torque of 350N·m, paired with a single-speed transmission. During daily driving, the power output is linear, with light starts, and the 0-60 km/h acceleration is quick to respond, meeting urban commuting needs. When switched to Sport mode, the acceleration feels more robust, providing ample power when stepping hard on the accelerator for overtaking. The chassis uses a MacPherson front suspension and multi-link independent rear suspension, with a tuning leaning towards comfort. It effectively absorbs road bumps or minor jolts when dealing with urban speed bumps, keeping the vehicle stable. At high speeds, the chassis performs solidly without noticeable floating sensations. The steering wheel provides a moderate weight, minimal slack, and agile handling suitable for the MPV segment.

Range and charging are key concerns for pure electric vehicles. We conducted tests in mixed road conditions (60% city roads + 40% highways) with the air conditioning set to 24℃ on auto mode. The final range achievement rate was approximately 85%, with an actual range of about 370 km, which suffices for a week’s commuting needs. In fast charging mode, it can charge to 80% capacity in 0.5 hours, while slow charging takes 8.5 hours, making it suitable for home slow charging or public fast charging stations. As for energy consumption, the combined energy consumption is about 21kWh/100km, which is normal for this segment.

In terms of driving comfort, the vehicle performs well in controlling tire noise and wind noise, allowing in-car conversations to remain unaffected even at high speeds; the seats provide moderate support, ensuring long-term comfort without causing fatigue; the energy recovery system defaults to a low setting, making the deceleration feel subtle when releasing the accelerator, which closely resembles the driving experience of a fuel vehicle, enabling new drivers to adapt quickly.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2024 Maxus MIFA 9 Luxury lie in its practical space, range performance, and entry-level luxury features. Compared to competitors in the same segment, its RM269,888 pricing is more cost-effective, while also offering standard features such as six safety airbags, ACC adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking, resulting in solid safety performance. The drawbacks include average long-distance comfort for third-row seats and room for improvement in the responsiveness of the central control screen.

This vehicle is suitable for family users who prioritize space and range, particularly those who need a 7-seater layout to accommodate multiple passengers and aim to reduce daily vehicle costs. For users who frequently commute short distances and have access to fixed charging facilities, its performance can also meet their needs.

In summary, the 2024 Maxus MIFA 9 Luxury is a pure electric MPV that balances space, range, and cost-effectiveness. It performs well in everyday family use scenarios and is a solid option in the E-Segment pure electric MPV market.

Pros
Responsive power, quick start, not sluggish when overtaking, suitable for commuting and fully loaded scenarios
Spacious 7-seater space, relatively comfortable legroom in the third row, no obvious discomfort when fully loaded
Fast charging speed, can recharge in half an hour, convenient for addressing range anxiety
Cons
In urban areas, air conditioning reduces the range quickly, requiring frequent searches for fast charging stations
Long-distance travel with three adults in the third row feels cramped, and the space performance is insufficient
The infotainment system occasionally lags, impacting the user experience

I’ve been driving the MIFA 9 Premium for three months now. During traffic jams on my commute, the accelerator is very responsive and it’s not sluggish when overtaking. When we had a family day with a full load of 7 passengers, the third row wasn’t cramped for legroom either. However, the range drops quickly when driving in the city with the air conditioning on, so you need to find fast charging stations frequently. But it’s acceptable since it takes just half an hour to recharge.

As an owner of the MIFA 9 Luxury for half a year in Malaysia, I truly believe that choosing this all-electric MPV in the E-class segment was the right decision! Previously, I drove a Japanese fuel-powered MPV, and the fuel consumption used to spike during traffic jams. After switching to this, commuting during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour in pure electric mode, the acceleration is even smoother than the Myvi next to me. With 9.2 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, overtaking doesn’t feel underpowered either. Giving it a 4 out of 5 in performance is quite reasonable—after all, it’s a car weighing over 2 tons, and acceleration above 120 km/h on the highway feels a bit sluggish. The exterior must get full marks! The 5.27-meter-long sleek body paired with LED headlights earns as many glances near the Petronas Twin Towers as BMW, Benz, and Audi. The interior gets 4 marks because the second-row aviation seats are very comfortable, but the third row is a bit cramped for three adults on long trips, and the infotainment system occasionally lags. On weekends, when taking the whole family to Genting Highlands, the 435 km range is sufficient for a round trip, and the fast-charging only takes half an hour, which is super convenient. However, slow charging takes 8.5 hours, so planning ahead is necessary. Overall, at this RM270,000 price point, it offers way better value for money compared to the Toyota Alphard. Highly recommended for family use!

As the owner of the 2024 MIFA 9 Luxury for half a year in Malaysia, I truly feel I made the right choice! I used to drive a Japanese MPV, but switching to an EV has been a completely different experience — during the morning rush hour on Jalan Ampang, the 350N·m torque from the electric motor responds instantly, making overtaking and lane-changing much more agile compared to a petrol car. Its 9.2-second 0-100 km/h acceleration is sufficient for highway driving, although the 180 km/h top speed occasionally gets teased by friends for "not being wild enough." Safety deserves a full 5 stars, no exaggeration: with 6 airbags and active braking, the system directly stopped the car last week in Puchong, narrowly avoiding a rear-end collision, which gave me a scare but also peace of mind. On weekends, taking the family to Genting is comfortable thanks to the 3200mm wheelbase and spacious 7-seater interior; the kids can lie flat in the back. However, the 435km range requires a fast charge once for the trip to Genting, but fortunately, a 30-minute charge can replenish up to 80%, which is quite convenient. A minor downside is that the reversing camera is only rear-facing, with no 360-degree view, which might take some getting used to for beginners. Overall, spending 269,000 MYR on an E-class electric MPV offers superb value for money!

Driving the MIFA 9 Luxury for commuting, smooth start and stable overtaking, even fully loaded with 7 seats it doesn't feel cramped. Fast charging replenishes energy in half an hour, the air conditioning is strong enough to withstand high temperatures, but the car's length makes finding a parking spot a bit tricky. Overall, very satisfied!

Every morning rush hour drives the MIFA 9, stepping on the accelerator and it zooms forward, super confident when overtaking! Even with 7 seats fully occupied, it's not crowded, and reclining the second-row seat is super comfortable. Fast charging replenishes in half an hour, though it's a pity that it lacks a knee airbag for safety, but overall it's very worth it!
