Maxus Mifa 9 2024 Review

As the demand for pure electric MPVs among local family users gradually increases, the E-Segment pure electric MPV market is witnessing more options. The 2024 Maxus MIFA 9 Luxury enters this segment with an official range of 435 km, 7-seater large space, and a price tag of RM269,888, positioning its core selling points on the balance between spatial practicality and entry-level luxury features. This test drive will focus on verifying its actual range performance, driving comfort, and practicality in family scenarios, providing a reference for potential users.
From the exterior, the overall style of the MIFA 9 Luxury leans towards stability and business-like aesthetics. The front features a closed grille paired with a through-type LED daytime running light, which enhances its recognition; the side profile has straight lines, and the 5270mm length and 3200mm wheelbase ensure a spacious interior, while the chrome trim below the doors adds a touch of detail. The rear design is simple, with LED taillights echoing the front, and a silver skid plate on the rear bumper adds a bit of layered texture. The lighting system consists entirely of LEDs, with automatic headlights and front fog lights as standard, making daily use convenient.
Stepping into the cabin, the interior predominantly features a dark color scheme. The dashboard adopts a symmetrical layout, and the combination of a 12.3-inch touch control central screen and a fully digital instrument cluster aligns with mainstream designs. In terms of materials, the upper part of the dashboard and the inside of the door panels are wrapped in soft-touch materials, and the texture is decent; the multifunctional steering wheel supports electric adjustment, and the operation logic is clear. In terms of features, keyless entry, one-button start, front automatic air conditioning, and rear independent air conditioning come standard. The second row also offers air vents and power outlets to accommodate rear passenger needs. Regarding seating, the front seats support electric adjustment, the second-row seats are wide and soft, and although the third-row seats are foldable, they can still comfortably accommodate adults for short trips. As for storage space, the front central armrest compartment is relatively large, the door pocket can hold bottled water, and the trunk in the 7-seat configuration can fit two 20-inch suitcases, with further expansion possible by folding the third row.
In terms of power, the MIFA 9 Luxury is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a maximum power of 180kW (245PS) and a maximum torque of 350N·m, paired with a single-speed transmission. During daily driving, the power output is linear, with light starts, and the 0-60 km/h acceleration is quick to respond, meeting urban commuting needs. When switched to Sport mode, the acceleration feels more robust, providing ample power when stepping hard on the accelerator for overtaking. The chassis uses a MacPherson front suspension and multi-link independent rear suspension, with a tuning leaning towards comfort. It effectively absorbs road bumps or minor jolts when dealing with urban speed bumps, keeping the vehicle stable. At high speeds, the chassis performs solidly without noticeable floating sensations. The steering wheel provides a moderate weight, minimal slack, and agile handling suitable for the MPV segment.
Range and charging are key concerns for pure electric vehicles. We conducted tests in mixed road conditions (60% city roads + 40% highways) with the air conditioning set to 24℃ on auto mode. The final range achievement rate was approximately 85%, with an actual range of about 370 km, which suffices for a week’s commuting needs. In fast charging mode, it can charge to 80% capacity in 0.5 hours, while slow charging takes 8.5 hours, making it suitable for home slow charging or public fast charging stations. As for energy consumption, the combined energy consumption is about 21kWh/100km, which is normal for this segment.
In terms of driving comfort, the vehicle performs well in controlling tire noise and wind noise, allowing in-car conversations to remain unaffected even at high speeds; the seats provide moderate support, ensuring long-term comfort without causing fatigue; the energy recovery system defaults to a low setting, making the deceleration feel subtle when releasing the accelerator, which closely resembles the driving experience of a fuel vehicle, enabling new drivers to adapt quickly.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2024 Maxus MIFA 9 Luxury lie in its practical space, range performance, and entry-level luxury features. Compared to competitors in the same segment, its RM269,888 pricing is more cost-effective, while also offering standard features such as six safety airbags, ACC adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking, resulting in solid safety performance. The drawbacks include average long-distance comfort for third-row seats and room for improvement in the responsiveness of the central control screen.
This vehicle is suitable for family users who prioritize space and range, particularly those who need a 7-seater layout to accommodate multiple passengers and aim to reduce daily vehicle costs. For users who frequently commute short distances and have access to fixed charging facilities, its performance can also meet their needs.
In summary, the 2024 Maxus MIFA 9 Luxury is a pure electric MPV that balances space, range, and cost-effectiveness. It performs well in everyday family use scenarios and is a solid option in the E-Segment pure electric MPV market.
