Specs

In Malaysia's B-segment hatchback market, consumers generally value "balance and practicality"—seeking fuel efficiency for daily commuting without compromising on safety features. The 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA, as the entry-level model of the series, includes the PSDA (Perodua Smart Drive Assist) active safety system at a price of RM 46,500, which is uncommon in vehicles of the same price range. In this test drive, we focus on verifying whether its "high cost-performance ratio" lives up to its name, as well as whether its overall performance in daily use can meet the needs of family users.

From the exterior, this Myvi continues the family design of the series, featuring smooth yet non-bulky lines overall. The front features a moderately sized front grille paired with an L-shaped chrome trim that connects to the LED headlights on both sides, enhancing the visual width. The side of the car maintains the compactness of a hatchback, with a waistline extending from the taillight to the front fender. Although the 175/65 R14 tire specification leans towards a utilitarian design, it is proportionate to the car's body. At the rear, the taillight set adopts a horizontal design with integrated LED lighting, while the black plastic surrounds on the lower rear bumper add a touch of practicality. Its overall recognizability in the same segment is above average.

Sitting inside, the interior theme uses dark tones, and the dashboard is made of hard plastic, yet the seams are well controlled, leaving no obvious sense of cheapness. The multifunctional steering wheel supports volume adjustments and call handling, with a clear operation logic and a comfortable grip. The instrument panel features backlit analog gauges for the tachometer, speedometer, and fuel level, making information easy to read during daily driving. Below the center console is a manual single-zone air conditioner equipped with digital control and memory functions. The adjustment knobs have a clear damping feel, enabling easy use even while driving. Notably, the front row is equipped with a 220V/230V power outlet, which is particularly useful for users needing to connect external devices. The seats are fabric-covered with manually adjustable front-row seats. The headrests are set at a suitable height, and back support during long drives is moderate. The rear seats support 60:40 split-folding, expanding the trunk space to occasionally accommodate larger items.

In terms of space, the car dimensions are 3895mm/1735mm/1515mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2500mm, which is standard in the B-segment. When a 175cm tall passenger is seated in the front row, there is a one-fist clearance for headroom and adequate legroom. For two passengers of the same height in the rear, legroom measures approximately two fists, and headroom one fist. The slight bulge in the central floor does not pose a significant issue for short-term middle-seat occupants. The trunk has a default capacity of 277L, sufficient to accommodate two 20-inch suitcases and some smaller items, meeting the needs of short family trips. The back seat is equipped with ISOFIX child seat anchors, a necessary feature for families with children.

In terms of performance, this car is equipped with a 1.3L naturally aspirated engine delivering a maximum output of 95PS, with peak torque available at 4000rpm, paired with a CVT transmission. During daily driving, the initial acceleration response is relatively linear with no obvious lag, making the car suitable for following traffic in crowded urban areas. When accelerating to 60km/h, the power output remains smooth, but overtaking requires a deeper throttle press. The transmission mimics gear shifting by increasing the RPM above 4000rpm, which noticeably enhances power. However, at high speeds (e.g., above 100km/h), power reserves for further acceleration are average, making it more apt for low to mid-speed conditions. There are only economic and normal driving modes. Under the economic mode, the throttle response slightly softens, making it suitable for daily commuting to reduce fuel consumption.

In terms of handling, the front suspension uses a MacPherson independent suspension, while the rear suspension is a torsion beam non-independent suspension, which is tuned for comfort. When driving on urban roads, the suspension can filter out most vibrations when passing speed bumps and small bumpy surfaces, so passengers inside the car will not feel significant jolts. During cornering, body roll is kept within an acceptable range, the steering wheel is light with minimal slack, and the steering is precise enough for everyday driving. The braking performance is average, with the brake pedal having a moderate travel distance, a linear release of braking force, and a stable body posture during emergency braking.

As for fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 4.5L/100km. During our test of mixed road conditions, consisting of urban traffic (about 30%) and highways (about 70%), the actual fuel consumption was about 5.2L/100km. Considering the use of air conditioning and loading during actual driving, this result is as expected. With a fuel tank capacity of 36L, the full tank range is approximately 690km, which is enough to meet one week's commuting needs.

In terms of driving comfort, the vehicle's noise control performs well. Below 60km/h, tire noise and engine noise are not noticeable, while at highway speeds (100km/h), wind noise enters through the A-pillars but does not affect normal conversations. The fabric seat material has good breathability, so it doesn't feel stuffy even during long summer journeys. The rear seats are equipped with fixed headrests, which provide basic neck support. However, it should be noted that this car does not come with a reversing camera, only rear parking sensors, which may require some adaptation for beginners.

Overall, the core advantage of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA lies in its "value for money" — with a price of RM 46,500, you can get a model equipped with active safety systems (such as forward collision warning and vehicle stability control), which is rare among B-segment hatchbacks in the same price range. Compared to the 1.3 G model of the same series (priced at RM 48,500), it lacks lane departure warning and autonomous emergency braking, but it's RM 2,000 cheaper, making it more appealing for budget-conscious users.

This car is suitable for families who prioritize practicality and safety, especially in scenarios of daily commuting and short family trips. It offers adequate space for small families, economic fuel efficiency, and reassuring safety features. If you don't require advanced driver assistance systems and your budget is between RM 45,000-50,000, this car would be a good choice.

In conclusion, the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA is a family hatchback with "no significant shortcomings." It offers impressive safety features and practical performance at an entry-level price, making it one of the most value-for-money choices in the B-segment market.

Pros
Safety configurations are practical; forward collision warning and active braking have avoided accidents multiple times, and lane departure warning enhances long-distance safety.
Fuel consumption performance is excellent, about 5L/100km in urban areas, even lower on highways; the 36L fuel tank provides a range of over 700 kilometers, suitable for working-class families.
The exterior design is more streamlined and spirited compared to older models; LED headlights are bright, the body lines are pleasing to the eye, and some models have a high return rate of attention.
Cons
The rear design of some models is relatively blunt, and the taillights lack refinement, giving a less sophisticated feel compared to competitors.
The interior has a heavy plastic feel, and the use of hard plastic materials on the center console affects the premium sense. Some users wish for more soft-touch materials.
Low-end models lack a reversing camera, making reversing in narrow parking spaces inconvenient. Drivers have to rely on sensors, which are less efficient.

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X, having driven it in Malaysia for almost a year, the thing I want to praise most is its safety features! For example, since I live in Selangor and commute daily on the LDP highway, I often encounter situations during the morning rush hour when the car in front suddenly brakes. Its front collision warning and automatic emergency braking have saved me twice—once when a motorcycle suddenly darted out, the system immediately applied the brakes for me. It gave me a scare, but luckily, no one was hurt. Then there’s the lane departure warning; during long drives to Penang, it beeps to remind me whenever I veer slightly off track due to drowsiness. Plus, with standard features like vehicle stability control, driving on those slippery rural roads in the Eastern coastal areas during rainy days feels very steady. I’d give full marks for safety—it’s absolutely a reliable choice for a family car! As for the exterior, I’d rate it 4 out of 5. The new model looks more rounded compared to the old one, and the LED headlights do look quite sharp during the day. However, I feel the rear design looks a bit "blunt," especially the shape of the taillights, which seem less refined compared to my neighbor’s Alza. Maybe my taste is just more particular? But at least the body lines are decent to look at. For daily use like grocery shopping or picking up the kids, it doesn’t lose face. Still, if the rear design could be made sleeker, it would be even more perfect!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV
As the owner of the 2022 Myvi 1.5 AV, I've been driving it for almost a year now, and I truly feel that this car is super practical for Malaysian road conditions! First off, the exterior deserves a full 5 stars! The large front grille combined with the LED headlights makes it especially eye-catching in KL's morning rush-hour traffic. The smoked taillights at the rear are also very refined. Every time I park at Lalaport, someone always sneaks a peek. My friends all agree it's way better-looking than the previous model and doesn't look like a car that costs only 60,000 MYR at all. The interior gets a solid 4 stars, mainly because the plastic feels a bit cheap, especially the hard plastic on the central console, which doesn't feel high-end. However, the design is thoughtful – the digital air conditioning controls are user-friendly, and there’s a 220V power outlet in the front row. I often use it to charge my laptop while waiting for my kids after school. When the rear seats are folded down in a 60:40 ratio, it provides plenty of storage space. Last time we went to Malacca, we managed to fit three large suitcases, which is more than enough for family use. Performance-wise, it's absolutely adequate for both highways and city drives in Malaysia. When driving through the congested roads of PJ, the CVT transmission is very smooth, and the car doesn’t feel sluggish when starting. On weekends, driving up to Genting Highlands is no problem either. Although the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine doesn’t have the punch of a turbocharged one, stepping on the accelerator harder still allows me to keep up with the car in front. The 10.2-second acceleration is sufficient for overtaking in the city. The fuel economy is even more impressive. I usually commute on the LDP highway daily, with an average fuel consumption of about 5L per 100km, slightly higher than the official 4.7L figure but still perfectly acceptable. With a 36L fuel tank, it can go over 700km on a full tank, so I don’t need frequent trips to the gas station. The only small regret is the interior materials. If they could add more soft-touch materials, it would be perfect. But overall, at this price point, with 6 airbags and safety features like lane departure warning, what more could you ask for? The Myvi really deserves its reputation as Malaysia’s national car!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.3 G
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.3 G and driving it for more than half a year, I truly feel that the interior and exterior designs are just perfect for my taste! Let’s talk about the exterior first. Among the numerous Myvis on the streets of Malaysia, the design of this model really stands out—its LED headlights look particularly sharp during the day, and they are bright enough when driving on rural roads at night; the car body lines are more fluid than the older models, especially the small sporty curve at the rear. Whether it's parked at the LRT station or in the market parking lot, I can spot my car from a distance. The interior is even more surprising. Although it’s an entry-level model, the details are thoughtfully done: the plastic texture of the dashboard doesn’t feel cheap, and the button layout is user-friendly, so adjusting the air conditioning or changing songs is effortless, even with blind operation. The seats are made of fabric, but they don’t feel stuffy, and even during a long journey in the 30+ degree heat of Kuala Lumpur, it doesn’t get sticky. The rear seats can be folded down 60:40, and last time I helped a friend transport a small IKEA cabinet, it fit easily—perfectly sufficient for household use. In conclusion, the exterior and interior performance at this price point are really impeccable—full marks!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X, after driving it in Malaysia for almost a year, I truly feel that this car is perfect for the local environment! In terms of appearance, the LED headlights are particularly bright in the evening rain and fog in Kuala Lumpur, and the body lines are also very pleasing to the eye. Every time I park next to an LRT station, I feel it looks much more spirited compared to the older models. In terms of performance, the 1.5L engine is really powerful for overtaking on the hilly roads in Penang, and the CVT gearbox is very smooth during the morning rush hours in KL's traffic jams, without jerking. The fuel economy is a pleasant surprise as well—only about 5L when driving in the city with air conditioning on. A full 36L tank can last more than a week, which is excellent for us salaried workers. The interior, while not luxurious, is very practical—the manual air conditioning comes with digital memory, so there’s no need to adjust the temperature every time you get in. When you fold down the back seats 60:40, last week I managed to fit a small bookshelf from IKEA. Features like keyless entry and power-folding side mirrors are particularly convenient when parking by the roadside in Malacca, letting me lock the car without taking the key out. In conclusion, being able to buy such a car for just over RM50k, I’d give it full marks in all three aspects!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV
As an owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 AV, after driving it for almost a year, what satisfies me the most is its safety and performance! Speaking of safety, Malaysia's highways and urban road conditions are quite complex, especially during rush hours in Kuala Lumpur, where the traffic volume is frighteningly high. The 6 airbags, vehicle stability control, lane departure warning, and autonomous braking system of the Myvi 1.5 AV are really practical. Once, on the LDP highway, the car in front suddenly braked hard, and before I could react, the autonomous braking system activated and stopped the car steadily, avoiding a collision. When taking my family out, the ISO FIX interface also gives me a lot of peace of mind. In terms of safety, it definitely deserves full marks! Now about performance, the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine paired with a CVT gearbox feels very smooth in city driving, and the acceleration is sufficient. The official 0-100km/h acceleration is 10.2 seconds, which is not particularly fast, but it's more than enough for Malaysia's road conditions. Overtaking on the highway is also quite effortless, and the power output is very linear at 6000 rpm. The fuel consumption is also surprising, with a combined fuel consumption of 4.7L/100km. A full tank of fuel lasts for several days, which is very budget-friendly for a working-class individual. In conclusion, the Myvi 1.5 AV has exceeded my expectations in terms of safety and performance, making it really suitable as a family car!
