Specs

In Malaysia's B-segment hatchback market, the Perodua Myvi has always been a prominent choice—after all, it has consistently ranked high in sales, and its traditional strengths lie in value for money, reliability, and basic configuration. The 2022 Myvi 1.5 X, as a mid-range model of the facelifted version, brings active safety features to an uncommon level for its price range while retaining practical space. The focus of this test drive is to see whether these upgrades genuinely enhance the experience in daily commuting and short family trips, and whether the basic performance in terms of power and fuel economy remains strong.

The exterior design of the Myvi 1.5 X continues the family style of the facelift models with sharper lines compared to the older versions. The front adopts a large trapezoidal lower grille paired with a slim chrome strip above, visually widening the front view. LED headlights on both sides come as standard across the range, and their shape integrates with the grille, achieving high recognition. The side profile retains the compactness of a hatchback, and the 15-inch wheels feature a multi-spoke design. Although they are not made of alloy, they match the proportions of the car well. The rear has seen changes mainly in the taillights, where the LED light design echoes the front, and a black plastic skid plate has been added below the rear bumper, slightly enhancing its sporty feel. Overall, the design is not stunning but fits the aesthetic preferences of most family users, with more refined details compared to the older model.

Sitting inside the car, the interior layout of the Myvi 1.5 X prioritizes practicality. The dashboard adopts a layered design, with the upper part made of hard plastic. However, the texture has been finely treated, so it doesn't appear cheap. The lower part is highlighted with silver trim, adding a bit of quality. The instrument cluster is an illuminated analog type that, while not fully digital, clearly displays information such as RPM, speed, and fuel level without reflecting light during the day. A multifunctional steering wheel comes as standard, with the left side controlling volume and track selection, while the right side adjusts cruise control. The button feedback is clear, making blind operation feasible. The seats are fabric material with manual adjustment for the front seats. The seat cushions are sufficiently long, providing good thigh support, ensuring comfort during long drives. The rear seats are 60:40 split-folding with a backrest angle that is appropriate. A passenger of 175cm in height would have around one fist of legroom, and their head won't reach the roof. In terms of storage space, the front door panels can hold two bottles of water, the central armrest box is deep enough for a phone and wallet, and the trunk has a capacity of 277L, which is adequate for daily grocery shopping or storing a baby stroller. Folding down the rear seats allows for larger items to be loaded.

Regarding performance, the Myvi 1.5 X uses a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with a maximum horsepower of 103PS and peak torque of 137Nm, paired with a CVT transmission. When starting, the power response feels very brisk—pressing the accelerator gives a noticeable push, making it flexible for urban driving and overtaking. Switching to sport mode causes the transmission to maintain higher RPMs, delivering a more direct acceleration feel, but at highway speeds above 100km/h, the power reserve is average. It is suitable for daily commuting but not for aggressive driving. Fuel economy is a highlight; the official combined fuel consumption is 4.7L/100km. During our actual test drive, urban congested areas showed about 5.5L, while maintaining 110km/h on the highway could lower it to 4.2L. With a full 36L fuel tank, the range can exceed 700km, making it very convenient.

In terms of handling, the front suspension of the Myvi 1.5 X features MacPherson independent suspension, while the rear uses a torsion beam. During daily driving, the steering wheel has a moderate weight with minimal play, and body roll is well-controlled when cornering, making it more stable than some other small cars in the same price range. When encountering speed bumps or potholes in urban areas, the suspension can filter out most of the fine bumps, but with larger undulations, the rear passengers may feel significant jolts, so the comfort level can only be said to meet the expectations for this price range. Active safety features are a key upgrade this time, with all variants equipped with lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and autonomous emergency braking. During our tests in urban areas, the system promptly alerted and assisted in braking when the vehicle in front braked suddenly, avoiding a minor collision; on the highway, the steering wheel lightly vibrates to remind of lane departure, which is very beginner-friendly.

In terms of driving comfort, the Myvi 1.5 X has decent noise control; engine noise is almost inaudible at city speeds under 60km/h. At 100km/h on the highway, wind noise becomes slightly noticeable but remains within an acceptable range. As mentioned earlier, the seats provide good support and are comfortable even for long periods of sitting. The air conditioning is a manual single-zone system but comes with digital controls and memory functions, making it easy to adjust with fast cooling performance. The only minor regret is the lack of a reversing camera; it only comes with rear sensors, so new drivers may need some time to adapt when parking.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2022 Myvi 1.5 X are clear: rare active safety features at this price range, low fuel consumption, practical space, and Perodua's reliable reputation. Compared to the Proton Iriz 1.6 in the same category, the Myvi has lower fuel consumption and more comprehensive active safety features. Compared to the Honda Jazz, its price is nearly RM10,000 lower, offering better value for money. This car is most suitable for families who prioritize practicality and safety, especially those commuting daily in the city and occasionally taking short trips with family. If you do not need fancy features and only want a car that is easy to drive, worry-free, and safe, the Myvi 1.5 X is definitely the top choice in the same price range.

Pros
Excellent fuel efficiency, actual fuel consumption is about 4.7-5.5L/100km, a full tank can run 600-700 kilometers, suitable for local fuel prices
Rich safety features, standard with 4 airbags, ESP, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, effectively avoiding accidents
The power combination suits local road conditions, 1.5L naturally aspirated engine + CVT is smooth, acceleration after 60km/h is steady, sufficient for overtaking
Cons
The interior features a lot of plastic parts, and some configurations, such as the instrument panel, are mechanical in style, lacking a sense of sophistication
The exterior design is quite conventional, and the wheel style is ordinary, without particularly eye-catching visual effects
The acceleration power is slightly insufficient after 120km/h on the highway, and the start is not very brisk

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X, having driven it in Malaysia for almost a year, I want to share my real experience~ First, let's talk about performance. I give it 4 stars because it's sufficient for daily use but not particularly impressive. I drive on the LDP highway in KL and the narrow roads of SS2 daily, and while the 1.5L naturally aspirated engine + CVT isn’t very strong on initial acceleration, it works quite smoothly after 60km/h. When overtaking, pressing the accelerator harder can keep it up to speed. What really surprised me is the fuel consumption. The official rating is 4.7L/100km, and even with air conditioning and traffic jams, mine is only around 5.5. With a 36L fuel tank, I can go over 600 kilometers on a tank, which is super wallet-friendly considering Malaysia's fuel prices! Safety deserves a full 5-star rating! After all, the Myvi is a national car, and its safety configuration is very practical—all standard with 4 airbags, ESP, lane departure warning, and autonomous emergency braking. Once, I followed too closely on Jalan Ampang, the forward collision warning suddenly sounded, and the autonomous braking helped me brake just in time, avoiding a near rear-end collision—it really saved my life! The rear ISO FIX bracket is also very useful, making it super convenient to install a child safety seat when going out with kids. For appearance, I give it 4 stars mainly because the design is pleasing to the eye but not particularly eye-catching. The LED headlights are very bright on rainy nights during Malaysia's monsoon season, and the power-folding side mirrors are especially handy when parking in tight spaces like at Pavilion mall. The car's rounded body lines make it look stylish, and my neighbors all say, "It looks so Myvi, but much more spirited than the old model"~ Overall, for a car priced just over RM50,000, these three aspects have exceeded expectations. It's ideal for daily commuting and family use in Malaysia!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X, I've been driving it in Malaysia for almost a year, and the overall experience has been quite satisfying! Let's talk about performance first. The combination of the 1.5L NA engine and CVT is especially smooth in the crowded streets of Kuala Lumpur. It doesn't feel sluggish when starting or overtaking. Last time, I drove the whole family halfway up Genting Highlands, and the power was sufficient. However, accelerating beyond 120km/h on the highway feels a bit weak. A score of 4 is just right. In terms of interior, although there are many plastic parts, the craftsmanship is quite refined and doesn't feel cheap. The manual air conditioning with digital display is very practical, and the multi-function steering wheel buttons are responsive. After folding down the 60:40 rear seats, there's enough space to fit a baby stroller and luggage. The only drawback is that the seats are fabric, which tends to get dirty easily, but at this price point, it's acceptable. A score of 4 is reasonable. Safety deserves a full score! Malaysia has frequent rainy days. The last time I was on the North-South Expressway, I almost rear-ended the car in front. The forward collision warning promptly activated, and the automatic braking system intervened in time, giving me quite a scare! The standard 4 airbags, vehicle stability control, and lane departure warning make daily driving particularly reassuring. It's especially important when traveling with kids; just using the ISOFIX interface gives a strong sense of safety. As for the exterior, the LED headlights are particularly bright at night in Penang, and the body lines look sportier compared to the older model. Every time I park it downstairs at my apartment, someone asks if this is the new Myvi. The only regret is that the rim design is a bit plain; otherwise, it would be perfect. A rating of 4 is well-deserved. Overall, being able to get such a practical car at this price makes it a very suitable option for daily commuting and family use in Malaysia!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X
I drive a 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X, and I've been using it in Malaysia for almost a year. Overall, I'm quite satisfied! Appearance-wise, I'd give it 4 stars — the body lines are more rounded compared to the previous model, and the LED headlights look quite sharp during the day. However, to be honest, the color and wheel designs don't stand out much among the many Myvis on the road here. It's a standard practical family car, without that breathtaking "wow" factor. But I must give full marks for its performance and interior! The 1.5L naturally aspirated engine paired with the CVT is especially smooth during KL's morning rush hour traffic. The throttle response is quick too, making lane-switching on LDP highways effortless. The fuel consumption is only 4.7L/100km, and a full tank easily lasts a month, which is perfect for the local fuel prices. The interior is a pleasant surprise as well — the manually adjustable seats provide good support, and with the 60:40 rear seats folded down, it can fit the big bags of fruits my mom buys from the pasar malam. The digital climate control with memory function means I don't have to reset the temperature every time I get in the car. Features like keyless entry and power-folding mirrors are really impressive for a car just over RM50k, making everyday use incredibly convenient.

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X, after driving it for almost a year in Malaysia, I truly feel that this small car is perfect for local road conditions! Performance gets a 5-star rating—no complaints at all. The 1.5L naturally aspirated engine paired with a CVT offers super smooth acceleration in Kuala Lumpur’s morning rush hour traffic, and the throttle response is quick. The power is also sufficient when overtaking. The most surprising aspect is the fuel consumption. Although the official figure is 4.7L/100km, with my daily city driving and weekend trips to Selangor’s suburbs, it’s around 5L in practice. A full 36L tank can last nearly 700 kilometers, which is very budget-friendly for working-class people like us! I’d also give the exterior a full 5 stars. The LED headlights are especially bright in the rainy Penang evenings, and the car's body lines look more spirited than the previous model. It even turns heads when parked near the LRT station. Safety is also a full score. Last time while driving on a mountain road in Ipoh, I was almost cut off by a suddenly appearing motorbike. The lane departure warning immediately alerted me with a beep, and the autonomous braking gently slowed me down. With four airbags and vehicle stability control, I feel assured taking my family to Genting Highlands. The interior gets a 4-star rating since the price point matters—there are indeed a lot of plastic parts. However, practical features like the multifunction steering wheel and keyless entry are all there. The 60:40 split rear seats make it convenient for carrying groceries on the weekends. The only slight disappointment is that the instrument cluster is still mechanical. If it had a digital display, it would be perfect, but the overall value for money is undeniable! In conclusion, the Myvi 1.5 X is tailored for Malaysians. It’s fuel-efficient, easy to drive, and safe—more than enough for a household commuter car!
