In the local B-segment hatchback market, the Perodua Myvi has always been an unavoidable option—it understands the practical space needs of family users and also meets the basic configuration expectations of young buyers. This time, we tested the 2023 Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA, which is one of the most budget-friendly versions in the entire series, priced at only RM 46,500 while retaining many key features. We want to see if it can maintain Myvi’s consistent balanced performance while keeping costs under control, and whether the addition of the PSDA (Perodua Smart Drive Assist) system allows it to match the safety levels of higher-spec models.

Approaching the car, the exterior of the 2023 Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA continues the family-style design, with simple and clean overall lines, free of excessive decorations. The trapezoidal front grille paired with chrome trim connects to the LED headlights on both sides, creating a relatively refined visual effect; the side profile features a waistline extending from the fender to the rear, making the 4-door hatchback shape appear more elongated; the horizontally arranged LED taillights at the back offer decent recognition when lit. Although it uses 175/65 R14 tires and steel wheels, the overall proportion is balanced and doesn't appear too flimsy for daily commuting.

Opening the door and sitting inside, the interior is predominantly black, and the center console features a clear and intuitive layout. A multifunction steering wheel comes standard, integrating buttons for functions such as volume control and phone answering, making operation very convenient; the instrument cluster is a backlit analog type, clearly displaying information like speed, RPM, and fuel level, which remains visible even under strong light. The seats are fabric, with manual adjustment available for the front, offering moderate support and allowing for comfortable long drives without noticeable fatigue. In terms of configuration, keyless entry and start is a standout feature, making it convenient to open the door and start the vehicle without needing to take out the key; the front air conditioning is manually controlled with a single zone but includes digital display and memory functions, allowing you to precisely set the temperature. However, it is a bit disappointing that this version does not come equipped with a central touchscreen; nonetheless, the basic audio system with four speakers is sufficient for everyday music listening needs.

In terms of space performance, the Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA has a wheelbase of 2500mm. After adjusting the front seat to a comfortable position, a 175cm-tall passenger still has about a fist’s worth of headroom; for the same height passenger seated in the rear, there’s a two-fist gap for legroom and around four fingers of headroom, which is a decent performance for a B-segment car. The rear seats support a 60:40 split fold function, allowing an expansion of the trunk space. The original 277L trunk can easily fit two 20-inch suitcases, and after folding the seats, it can even accommodate a baby stroller or a folding bicycle. As for storage spaces, the front door panels can hold two water bottles, the center armrest and glove compartment provide sufficient room for small items, and the rear door panels also have storage slots. These details are thoughtfully considered.

In terms of dynamic driving, the Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA is equipped with a 1.3L naturally aspirated engine, delivering a maximum horsepower of 95PS and a peak torque output at 4000rpm. Paired with a CVT transmission, the power response during acceleration is relatively smooth, making it suitable for following traffic in the city; pressing the accelerator harder for acceleration increases the engine speed above 4000rpm, at which point there’s a noticeable burst of power, allowing for easy overtaking with some anticipation. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is cited as 11.5 seconds, which is average among models with the same displacement. It’s entirely adequate for daily commuting, though it’s not designed for spirited driving.

In terms of handling, the steering wheel feels lightweight, so even women drivers won’t find it burdensome, and the steering precision is satisfactory. When cornering, the direction of the front wheels can be felt distinctly. The chassis features a combination of a front MacPherson independent suspension and a rear torsion beam non-independent suspension, tuned for comfort. When driving over speed bumps or uneven road surfaces, the suspension absorbs most of the jolts, resulting in a smooth ride without jarring impacts. On the highway, the vehicle’s stability is also commendable, and it doesn’t feel floaty even at a cruising speed of 110km/h. One notable feature is the PSDA system. Although this version of the PSDA does not include lane departure warning or active braking which are present in higher-spec models, it retains the forward collision warning functionality. This feature alerts the driver when the distance to the vehicle in front becomes overly close, enhancing driving safety to some extent.

Fuel efficiency has always been a strong suit of the Myvi, with an official combined fuel consumption rate of 4.5L/100km. During our one-week test, mostly conducted on congested urban roads with occasional highway driving, the actual fuel consumption was approximately 5.2L/100km. This figure is very user-friendly for daily commuting, and with a full 36L tank, the vehicle can travel over 600 kilometers, reducing the hassle of frequent refueling. As for noise control, the engine noise is minimal at low speeds, but wind and tire noise gradually become noticeable when the speed exceeds 80km/h. However, it remains within an acceptable range and won’t hinder normal conversations among passengers inside the car.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2023 Perodua Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA are very clear: it’s affordable, practically equipped, fuel-efficient, and offers a balanced performance in terms of space. Compared to competitors in the same price range, features like the keyless entry system, LED headlights, and PSDA forward collision warning are definite advantages. Although it lacks a central control screen and higher-end active safety configurations, its basic functionalities are sufficient to meet the needs of most users.

This car is most suitable for families on a budget who are looking for a balanced performer or for new drivers who’ve just obtained their licenses. It’s easy to drive and park, economical in fuel consumption, and has low maintenance costs. It is capable of handling daily commutes, school runs, or short weekend trips. If you’re looking for more advanced smart features, you can consider spending an additional 2,000 to upgrade to the 1.3 G variant, which includes lane departure warning and active braking. However, if your budget is tight, the 1.3 G with PSDA already delivers the core Myvi experience: practicality, reliability, and fuel efficiency.

Overall, the 2023 Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA remains a "balanced" choice in the B-segment market, with no obvious shortcomings. It offers the core advantages of the Myvi at the lowest price, making it a worthwhile option for users who prioritize value for money.

Pros
Modern design, high recognition LED headlights, smooth body lines, high return rate
Rich safety features, standard airbags, body stability system, some models equipped with intelligent assistance like automatic braking
Fuel-efficient, with a combined fuel consumption of about 4.5-6L/100km, strong fuel range when fully refueled, suitable for daily commuting
Cons
The interior has a heavy plastic feel, and hard plastic on some models easily attracts fingerprints, lacking soft materials to enhance the texture.
Power feels weak when driving at high speed or climbing steep slopes with full load; acceleration struggles after 110km/h, and small engines have difficulty handling steep inclines.
Some models lack a reversing camera and are only equipped with parking sensors, making parking inconvenient for new drivers.

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X, after driving it for almost a year, I truly feel this car is incredibly practical in Malaysia! First, let's praise the exterior—definitely 5 stars! The LED headlights look sharp during the day, and the side profile is much sleeker compared to the previous model. Every time I park at the LRT station, it gets more attention than the Viva next to it. My friends always say, "This Myvi doesn’t look like a fifty-thousand-ringgit car"~ Performance-wise, I’d rate it 4 stars. The 1.5L naturally aspirated engine is sufficient for city driving in Kuala Lumpur. It handles bumper-to-bumper traffic smoothly on Jalan Ampang during morning rush hours, and the CVT gearbox has little to no jerkiness. Last week, I went to Genting; overtaking on the mid-hill roads wasn’t extremely fast when flooring the accelerator, but it climbed hills without much strain. That said, accelerating beyond 110 km/h on the highway feels a bit sluggish, but it’s absolutely adequate for daily commuting. Interior also gets 4 stars. The fabric seats are comfortable and don’t feel stuffy, even in Malaysia’s hot weather, and they don’t stick to your legs. The dashboard does feel a bit plasticky, but the button layout is very intuitive, making it super easy to adjust the air conditioning while driving without looking. The rear seats fold 60:40, and last time I helped my mom move some flower pots—we managed to fit three big ceramic pots. The versatility of the space is great. For safety, I would also give it 4 stars. The standard lane departure warning is very useful during long trips on the North-South Expressway. Once, I got distracted and crossed the white line, and it immediately beeped to alert me. The active braking system saved me from almost hitting a child who suddenly darted out at the Pasar Malam last week—the system slammed the brakes automatically, giving me quite the scare! However, there are only four airbags; having two additional side curtain airbags would provide extra peace of mind. All in all, being able to buy such a car for fifty thousand ringgit makes it perfect for daily commuting in Malaysia!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H
As an owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H, having driven it for almost a year, I must say its safety features and interior design have impressed me the most! First, let's talk about safety. Roads in Malaysia have lots of motorcycles, and sometimes they suddenly dart out, which can be quite frightening. Fortunately, it comes with lane departure warning and forward collision warning. I remember one time on the LDP highway in KL when the car in front braked suddenly and I didn’t react in time—its automatic braking kicked in and stopped the car for me. My heart almost stopped back then, and I still feel scared thinking about it now. The 6 airbags combined with the full set of active safety features truly serve as lifesavers! Whenever I take my child out, the ISOFIX connectors allow me to secure the child seat firmly in place, which gives me great peace of mind. Now for the interior. Although it’s a daily commuter car, the details are thoughtfully designed. The touchscreen on the dashboard is responsive, and connecting to CarPlay is very convenient. It allows me to switch songs or use navigation without having to look down while driving. The manual air-conditioning comes with digital display and memory functions, so I don’t have to readjust the settings every time I get in the car—it’s such a blessing for someone lazy like me! The rear seats can be folded down in a 6/4 split, which allows me to load large groceries from Jaya Grocer on weekends without any problem. What surprised me the most are the keyless entry and power-folding mirrors. During Malaysia’s rainy season, I don’t need to fish out the key to unlock the door, and the side mirrors fold automatically when locking the car, preventing them from being scratched by passing motorcycles. These small features have really solved common daily pain points! The overall materials used don’t feel cheap, and the plastic texture isn’t overwhelming. Sitting inside doesn't feel like driving a "cheap small car," but rather gives off a sense of refinement. In summary, I give full marks to these two aspects. As a family commuter car, the Myvi 1.5 H truly excels in safety and practical interior design, making it exceptionally convenient for use on Malaysian roads!

Owner of 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.3L X (Without A.S.A.2.0)
As an owner of the 2020 Perodua Myvi 1.3L X, after driving it for almost two years, I truly feel that this little car is super practical in Malaysia! Giving full marks to the exterior is not an exaggeration — the rounded body lines paired with LED headlights make it highly recognizable during rainy days in Kuala Lumpur. Every time I park it near the LRT station, passersby always give it a second glance, and my friends even say it looks like a "mini sports car." The more you look at it, the more you like it. The interior also deserves compliments! Although the price is just over 40,000 MYR, the central touch screen is very responsive, and connecting to CarPlay to listen to local Malaysian radio stations is super convenient. The digital air conditioner in the front seats cools quickly, and in Malaysia's 30-plus degree weather, the car can cool down within three minutes of stepping inside. After folding the 60:40 rear seats, I once drove my mom to Puchong to buy durians, and even large durian boxes could fit in—its space design truly understands the needs of local families. As for safety, I'd give it 4 stars—there are 4 airbags, ABS, and a vehicle stability control system. Last time on the winding roads of Penang Island, during an unexpected situation, the sudden braking was very steady, and the car didn't skid at all. However, since I didn't opt for the ASA 2.0 version, it lacks features like autonomous emergency braking and other intelligent assistance. If the budget allows, I would recommend spending extra to go for a variant with ASA, as it would provide more peace of mind in urban traffic jams. All in all, as a car for daily commuting and weekend family trips to places like Genting Highlands, the Myvi is really perfectly suited to the tastes of Malaysians!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 X, having driven it for almost a year, I sincerely feel that this little car is perfect for Malaysia! In terms of appearance, the newly designed LED headlights and streamlined body make it quite eye-catching during traffic jams in KL city. The red and white color combination is particularly striking, and my friends said it looks much fresher than the old model. The safety features deserve praise. Last time on the Penang mountain roads, a motorcycle suddenly appeared and almost caused an accident. The lane departure warning immediately beeped to alert me, and the autonomous braking system also helped slow down. With 4 airbags and a vehicle stability system, I feel very secure taking my family on highway trips to the East Coast. Regarding performance, the 1.5L engine is completely sufficient for local road conditions. It accelerates from 0-100 in 10.2 seconds, overtakes smoothly, and the CVT gearbox operates seamlessly. The combined fuel consumption is only 4.7L/100km, and a full 36L tank can cover over 700 kilometers. Climbing up to Genting is effortless, and the compact size makes finding parking spots very convenient. In summary, for just over RM50,000, a car like this offers exceptional value!

Owner of 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H
As the owner of the 2022 Perodua Myvi 1.5 H, having driven it for almost a year in Malaysia, I’m quite satisfied overall! Let’s talk about the exterior first. I chose the metallic grey color, and the LED headlights at the front are especially bright in the evening rain and fog in KL (Kuala Lumpur), making it highly recognizable. Neighbors in the community even asked me if it’s the latest model. However, the rear design could be a bit rounder; the current lines are slightly too straight. A score of 4 out of 5 feels right. As for the interior, the 6.9-inch touchscreen on the center console is very easy to use. Connecting the phone via Bluetooth to play Malay songs is super convenient. Plus, the manual air conditioning comes with a memory function, so I don’t have to adjust the temperature every time I get in the car. This feature is very handy in the hot weather of Penang. The only downside is that the seats are fabric. While breathable, they get dirty easily, especially when taking kids to Genting Highlands. Snack crumbs falling into the seats are hard to clean, so I deducted one point. A score of 4 is reasonable. The safety features deserve praise! Last month on the highway in Johor, the car in front suddenly braked, and my car activated the automatic emergency braking just in time. I was so scared that I broke into a cold sweat. Also, the six airbags and lane departure warning were a huge help when I drove long distances to Ipoh. It reminded me when I was feeling fatigued, providing a strong sense of safety. However, it would be even better if it had a reversing camera. Currently, it only comes with sensors, which might make new drivers nervous when parking. So I’d give it a 4. Overall, I feel very assured.
