The B-segment hatchbacks have always been the mainstay of the Malaysian market, with consumers pursuing both the economical aspect of basic transportation and increasingly valuing the practicality of features — the 2023 Perodua Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA is an updated model addressing such demands. It continues the high-value-for-money appeal of the Myvi series while incorporating the much-anticipated PSDA (Perodua Smart Drive Assist) system. The core objective of this test drive is to evaluate whether this system truly enhances everyday driving experiences and whether its strengths in aspects like space and performance remain competitive.

From the exterior, the overall design of the 2023 Myvi 1.3 G retains the rounded aesthetic of the Myvi family but gets plenty of detailed refinements. The front features a larger intake grille with a black honeycomb pattern, paired with sharp LED headlamp clusters on each side, providing higher recognition compared to the previous model. The side profile showcases smooth lines, with the 14-inch wheels sporting an ordinary but well-proportioned design. At the rear, the LED taillights adopt a prototype of a through-type design (with the left and right lamp clusters connected by a black trim), coupled with a slightly raised spoiler for a younger vibe. Notably, the standard full LED lighting system across the range offers sufficient brightness when lit at night, with decent road coverage, which is a pleasant surprise for those who frequently commute at night.

Inside, the interior layout is simple and practical, avoiding overly flashy designs. The center console uses large areas of hard plastic material, but the textured surface treatment prevents it from feeling cheap. The steering wheel comes with multifunctional controls: the left side manages multimedia and Bluetooth calls, while the right side houses PSDA system buttons. The operation logic is clear and easy to get used to. The instrument panel features backlit mechanical pointers with clear and intuitive data presentation. While it lacks the futuristic feel of a fully digital dashboard, it makes data reading effortless. The central screen isn't very large but supports Bluetooth connectivity and USB input, adequate for daily use. The seats are made of fabric material, with the front row supporting manual adjustments. The lumbar support is average, but there’s no noticeable discomfort during short trips. Regarding the rear space, its 2500mm wheelbase delivers a standard performance — for a 175cm passenger, there’s about a fist’s worth of legroom, while headroom does not feel cramped. The rear includes ISO FIX child seat anchors and air-conditioning vents, maximizing practicality. The trunk has a volume of 277L, ample for a few carry-on suitcases, and the rear seats can be split 60:40 and folded down to create more storage space, making it suitable for transporting small furniture.

In terms of performance, the 1.3L naturally aspirated engine delivers a maximum output of 95PS and a peak torque of 121N·m, paired with a CVT transmission. The power response during startup is generally smooth, with no noticeable jerking, ideal for urban traffic conditions. When pressing the accelerator hard for faster acceleration, the CVT transmission simulates gear shifts, and you can feel a significant power output once the engine revs reach around 4000 RPM. However, due to the limited engine displacement, overtaking at highway speeds requires planning in advance. There are two driving modes: Eco and Normal. In Eco mode, throttle response is slower but helps achieve lower fuel consumption. The suspension setup features MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear, tuned for comfort. It effectively filters out bumps when going over speed breakers, without feeling harsh. At higher speeds, the vehicle remains stable, with the steering offering precise direction control and minimal slack. The braking performance is also commendable, with a moderate brake pedal travel, sufficient braking force in the initial stage, and a stable body posture during emergency stops.

The PSDA system is the highlight of this test drive. This system includes automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. On highways, the adaptive cruise control can precisely follow the car in front. Once the speed and following distance are set, the system will automatically adjust the speed, reducing fatigue during long-distance driving. The lane keeping assist system will slightly correct the steering wheel when the vehicle deviates from the lane, reminding the driver to stay focused. However, in congested urban traffic, the sensitivity of the automatic emergency braking is slightly high, occasionally leading to unnecessary braking, which requires some adaptation. Regarding fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 4.5L/100km. During the actual test drive, urban congested traffic showed fuel consumption around 5.5L, while highway driving reduced it to 4.2L, which meets expectations. In terms of noise control, the interior is relatively quiet at low speeds, while wind and tire noise become more noticeable at high speeds but remain within an acceptable range.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2023 Perodua Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA lie in its high cost-effectiveness and practical configurations. Compared to its counterpart, the Proton Iriz, the Myvi has lower fuel consumption, and its PSDA system is more comprehensive. Although it doesn't particularly excel in power and space, it stands out for its balance. This car is ideal for families prioritizing economy and practicality, especially for those frequently traveling with children, as the PSDA system provides additional safety assurance. If you have a limited budget but want a reliable, fuel-efficient, and adequately equipped vehicle for daily use, the 2023 Perodua Myvi 1.3 G with PSDA is definitely a great choice.

As the owner of the 2023 Myvi 1.3 G, after driving it for three months, I truly feel that I made the right choice! First, let’s talk about the exterior. I give it 4 points because the overall design is quite eye-catching—the LED headlights are especially bright in Kuala Lumpur’s rainy evenings, and the body lines are sleeker compared to the previous model. However, the rear design feels a bit conventional to me. If the taillights were sharper, it would be perfect. The performance deserves full marks! The 1.3L engine paired with the CVT transmission makes overtaking on Selangor highways very effortless. Though the official 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 11.5 seconds, it’s more than sufficient for daily driving. The biggest surprise is the fuel efficiency. I commute daily using the LDP highway, and considering both traffic jams and smooth roads, it averages just 4.7L/100km, even better than the official rating. No worries even with rising fuel prices in Malaysia. The interior is absolutely great, and it fully deserves a 5! The plastic material of the dashboard doesn’t feel cheap, and the digital air conditioning panel is super convenient to use. Adjusting the temperature while parking doesn’t require looking down for buttons. With the rear seats folded in a 60:40 split, I helped a friend move some small furniture last week without any issues. The 277L trunk easily accommodates a stroller and shopping bags during normal use. All in all, this car is very smooth to drive on Malaysian roads and offers excellent value for money!

As the owner of the 2023 Perodua Myvi 1.3 G, after driving it in Malaysia for three months, the thing I’m most satisfied with is its appearance! The LED headlights on the front are especially eye-catching during KL’s (Kuala Lumpur) evening traffic jams. The body lines are also sleeker compared to the old model. Every time I park in Klang Valley’s parking lots, I always feel like it looks more spirited compared to the Axia or Bezza parked next to it. Full marks for this aspect—absolutely no complaints! As for performance, I’d give it 4 out of 5. After all, with a 1.3L naturally aspirated engine paired with a CVT, overtaking on highways like the LDP (Federal Highway) requires stepping on the throttle a bit earlier. However, it’s more than sufficient for daily commuting. For instance, driving from Subang Jaya to Petaling Jaya in the mornings, the car handles smoothly in stop-and-go traffic, and the PSDA (possibly the auto start-stop system?) even helps save a bit of fuel while waiting at red lights. The official fuel consumption is 4.5L/100km, but from my experience, it’s around 5L—still pretty economical, especially with rising fuel prices in Malaysia. The interior gets another 4 out of 5. Even though it has a manual air-conditioning system, it comes with digital displays and memory functions, so you don’t need to adjust the temperature each time. The multifunction steering wheel allows you to control music, perfect for long drives as you don’t need to look down to operate the central controls. However, the plastic materials do feel a bit cheap, especially the panel in front of the front passenger seat, which feels very hard to the touch. But considering the price of just over RM40,000, this configuration is already very decent. The 60:40 split-folding rear seats came in handy last time I went to IKEA to buy small furniture—it fit perfectly, making it incredibly practical! Overall, as a Malaysian national car, this revamped Myvi truly understands our needs. With its stylish appearance, adequate performance for daily usage, and practical interior, it’s absolutely worth the price!

As an owner of the 2023 Myvi 1.3 G for almost half a year, let me start with the interior—I'll give it 4 points as it’s “sufficient but not stunning.” The weather in Malaysia is hot, and the plastic interior tends to emit a slight smell after being exposed to the sun for a long time in summer. However, the memory function on the digital air conditioning panel of the center console is very considerate, as I don't need to re-adjust the temperature every time I get in. The multi-function steering wheel feels okay to hold, but it feels a bit too plasticky; it would be perfect if it had leather wrapping. The rear seats can be folded down in a 60:40 split, which is handy for carrying small items occasionally (like a box of fruits from Pasar Malam), so extra points for that. Now to praise the performance—it deserves 5 points! The LDP highway in Malaysia is often congested, and the CVT gearbox of the Myvi is exceptionally smooth in stop-and-go traffic without jerking. Although the 1.3L naturally aspirated engine doesn’t accelerate aggressively (officially it takes 11.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h), it is more than adequate for overtaking in urban areas and climbing gentle slopes like those at Genting Highlands. The 95 horsepower is entirely sufficient for daily commuting. The most surprising aspect is the fuel efficiency. Even when I drive daily between Subang Jaya and KLCC during peak traffic, the fuel consumption averages 5L per 100 km, slightly higher than the official figure of 4.5L but still perfectly acceptable. The 36L fuel tank can be fully refueled for just over RM50, which is incredibly economical! When going over speed bumps or rough roads, the suspension absorption has improved compared to the previous model, without a loose sensation. For a B-segment compact car, it genuinely exceeds expectations.

As a 2023 Myvi 1.3 G owner, after driving it for more than half a year, I genuinely feel that this car is very suitable for Malaysian road conditions! Let me start with the interior, I must give it a full 5 points — although the price is just over RM40,000, the textured panel on the center console, the digital air conditioning button's quality don't feel like a budget car at all, and the LED interior lights create a very cozy atmosphere when driving at night. The multi-functional steering wheel feels comfortable to hold, and the 60:40 fold-down rear seats make it super convenient to store things. Taking kids out with a stroller or packing groceries in large bags is no problem, the attention to detail is very thoughtful. In terms of safety, I would give it 4 points. After all, for this price, it comes equipped with 4 airbags, vehicle stability control, and full car seatbelt reminders. When I brake suddenly during traffic jams in KL, the ABS reacts quickly without skidding; however, it would be even better if a reverse camera was included. Currently, there is only radar, so beginners might need some getting used to. As for performance, the 1.3L NA engine is completely sufficient for city driving — every day I drive on the LDP highway, cruising steadily at 80-90km/h, and it can keep up when you step on the accelerator to overtake. Although its 0-100 acceleration in over 11 seconds is not fast, considering the traffic jams everywhere in Malaysia, having smooth power delivery is more important than speed. The CVT gearbox shifts without jerking, and the fuel consumption is only about 4.5L per 100km. The 36L fuel tank allows me to drive for a whole week on one full tank, which is so economical! Overall, as a family car for daily commuting, I am really satisfied with its performance~
