The C-segment sedan market in Malaysia is currently highly competitive. Most models either skimp on features or are priced close to the RM100,000 threshold, making it difficult for family users focusing on value-for-money to make a decision. Priced at only RM73,800, the 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Executive, positioned as the mid-to-low trim level of its series, comes equipped with a 150PS turbocharged engine and six airbags as core features. Is this high value-for-money combination truly "sincere"? In this test drive, we'll focus on verifying its static practicality and dynamic daily performance to see if it can be the pragmatic choice for family users.

First impression of the S70 1.5T Executive, the overall design continues the family-style aesthetics of its series without excessive flashy elements. The front adopts a vertical chrome grille paired with halogen headlights on both sides, giving it decent recognizability. The addition of the automatic headlamp function allows the lights to switch automatically when entering tunnels or during dusk, making daily use more convenient. The side profile of the car flows smoothly, and its dimensions of 4602mm in length and 2627mm wheelbase fall within the standard range for C-segment sedans. The rear LED taillights provide clear illumination when lit, and rear fog lamps come standard to enhance visibility in adverse weather conditions. However, compared to the Premium version's LED headlights, the Executive's halogen lights are slightly less bright at night, but they suffice for daily commuting needs.

Opening the door, the interior features a predominantly black color scheme with a simple and intuitive dashboard layout, making it easy to get the hang of. The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system is responsive, supporting basic multimedia and Bluetooth connectivity functions. Although it lacks the Atlas OS system available in the Premium version and above, it should suffice for users who do not demand advanced smart interactions. The seats are manually adjustable, with the driver's seat offering height adjustments to find a suitable driving position. The rear seats support a 60:40 split-fold feature, which expands the trunk space when folded down, making it more adaptable for placing strollers or long items. Regarding space performance, a 175cm tall front passenger has a fist's worth of headroom, while rear passengers enjoy two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom, adequately meeting the seating needs for daily family outings. The storage space design is practical, with a moderately sized central armrest storage box in the front, door panel storage that can hold two bottles of water, and rear air conditioner vents and power outlets to enhance passenger comfort.

Starting the vehicle, the combination of the 1.5T turbocharged engine and the 7-speed DCT transmission delivers smooth performance in everyday driving. The maximum 150PS of power and 226Nm of torque reach their peak at 1750rpm. Lightly pressing the accelerator during start-up provides good throttle response, and there's no need to floor the pedal for following traffic or overtaking in the city, as the power delivery is quite linear. During the test drive, switching to Normal driving mode revealed a clear gear-shifting logic in the transmission. While there was slight hesitation at low speeds, it did not impair everyday usability. At highway speeds, the engine maintains around 2000rpm, offering adequate power reserves with the transmission eagerly downshifting when overtaking. The steering wheel provides moderate steering effort with no dead zone, making daily driving nimble and suitable for maneuvering through narrow urban streets.

The chassis adopts a front MacPherson independent suspension and a rear torsion beam non-independent suspension, with tuning focused on comfort. When passing over speed bumps or bumpy roads, the suspension can filter out most of the minor vibrations, and the body does not feel significantly bumpy; during cornering, body roll is kept within a reasonable range, without giving a loose feeling. In terms of fuel consumption, urban congested conditions have a fuel consumption of about 7.5L/100km, highway conditions about 5.8L/100km, and comprehensive fuel consumption is around 6.5L/100km. With a 50L fuel tank capacity, a full tank can provide a range of about 750km, sufficient for a week of commuting. Noise control performance is decent; at high speeds, wind and tire noise are within an acceptable range, with no noticeable resonance or abnormal sounds. The seat cushioning is of moderate softness, making long-term sitting less tiring.

Overall, the core advantage of the S70 1.5T Executive lies in being "balanced and pragmatic": at a price of 73,800 MYR, you can get configurations like turbocharged power, 6 airbags, and rear air-conditioning vents. Compared to competitors in the same class such as the low-end version of the Honda Civic 1.5T (priced at around 100,000 MYR), it has a clear cost-performance advantage; even when compared to its own Premium version, the Executive, while lacking features like LED headlamps and automatic air-conditioning, saves 6,000 MYR, which is more practical for users with a limited budget. Its space meets the daily needs of families, the power is sufficient to handle both urban and highway conditions, and its fuel economy is excellent. It is suitable for family users who prioritize practicality and value, especially those with a budget between 70,000 to 80,000 MYR seeking a reliable commuter vehicle.

Overall, the 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Executive is not a "flashy" model. With its practical configurations and balanced performance, it meets the core needs of family users. If you are looking for high cost-performance and a reliable daily commuting experience, this car is worth considering.

Owner of 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Executive
As the owner of the 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Executive, after driving in Malaysia for three months, overall, I'm quite satisfied! Performance-wise, I'd give it 4 stars — the combination of the 1.5T turbo engine and 7DCT transmission performs well in Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour traffic; following other cars is smooth, initial acceleration isn't sluggish, and it has enough power for overtaking on the North-South Expressway. With 150 horsepower, cruising at 110 km/h on the highway feels very stable. However, there is slight jerkiness during sudden acceleration at times, not a big issue but still docked some points. The interior definitely deserves 4 stars — although it has manual air conditioning and an analog instrument panel, the 8-inch touchscreen on the center console is quite responsive, and the multifunction steering wheel is very practical. The seats are fabric, which don't feel suffocating even after sitting for long periods. The rear space is very spacious for my 175cm height, and with the 60:40 seat folding, it can even accommodate my camping folding table, making it perfect for family use. Safety gets a full 5 stars! With 6 airbags and seatbelt reminders for the entire car, the vehicle's stability system kicked in and stabilized the car securely last time when I was almost sideswiped by a motorcycle in Penang. The ISOFIX interface is also very convenient, making it easy to install my daughter's child seat; this really gives me peace of mind considering Malaysia's complex road conditions. For the exterior, I’d rate it 4 stars — the car's sleek body lines and the LED tail lights are highly recognizable at night, and it gets quite a lot of attention when parked in Klang Valley parking lots. The only minor drawback is the halogen headlights; their brightness is average when driving on rural roads at night, so I plan to replace them with LED bulbs later. Overall, for a price of over RM70,000, the features you get make it a great value for family use in Malaysia!

Owner of 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Flagship X
As the owner of the 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Flagship X, after driving in Malaysia for three months, what I appreciate the most is its safety features! After all, there are many motorcycles and sudden situations on Malaysian roads. For instance, last time I was stuck in traffic near KLCC, the car in front suddenly braked, and the automatic braking system stopped my car immediately. It really gave me a fright. The 360-degree camera is particularly useful when parking in narrow alleys in Penang, where even small motorcycles parked on the roadside can be clearly seen, so there’s no need to worry about scratches. Features like 6 airbags and lane departure warning are all standard. When driving on the highway or taking long trips to Johor Bahru, the ACC adaptive cruise control combined with lane assist significantly enhances the sense of safety. Rating it 5 stars is not an exaggeration! As for the interior, I am overall quite satisfied, though I’m giving it 4 stars as there’s still room for improvement in the details. The 12.3-inch central control screen with the Atlas OS system operates smoothly, and even CarPlay is very stable, making it convenient for listening to Malaysian songs or navigating. The seats are leather, with both the driver and front passenger seats offering electric adjustment, so even during long drives, they don’t feel too tiring. However, while the rear row has air conditioning vents, adding USB charging ports would make it even better, as nowadays, everyone relies on their phones while going out. Additionally, the plastic material on the central console feels a bit excessive; replacing it with soft-touch materials would enhance the sense of luxury. But overall, considering the interior configuration for this price point, it’s already very impressive!

Owner of 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Flagship X
As the owner of a 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Flagship X, after driving for nearly three months, what I want to praise the most is its exterior! Every time I park near the KLCC parking lot, it turns heads—its large smoked grille paired with LED headlights, along with the sleek waistline and coupe-style roof, looks especially premium under the Malaysian sunlight. It absolutely doesn't look like a car under 100,000 MYR. A full 5 stars, no doubt about it! The interior gets 4 stars because overall, it's pretty good, but there's still room for improvement in the details. For example, the soft-touch material on the dashboard feels very nice, and the 12.3-inch infotainment screen running Atlas OS makes CarPlay navigation on the LDP highway very smooth. However, the occasional slight creaking sound from the plastic trims on the passenger side, especially when going over the bumpy old streets of Kuala Lumpur, is a bit of a pity. That said, the seats are truly comfortable. The electrically adjustable driver's seat allows me to find a suitable angle during traffic jams on my daily commute. The rear seating space is also spacious enough. When taking my family to Genting Highlands on the weekend, my parents commented that it doesn’t feel cramped. Overall, to have this level of exterior and interior performance at this price point, I’m already very satisfied!

Owner of 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Flagship
As the owner of the 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Flagship, I’ve been driving it for over three months now and would like to share my real-world experience in Malaysia~ **Performance**: The combination of 1.5T turbo and 7DCT is more than adequate for local road conditions. Driving daily in the congested streets of Kuala Lumpur, the low-speed gear shifting is relatively smooth without obvious jerks; on weekends when I take the family to Genting Highlands, the 226N·m torque burst at 1750 rpm doesn’t require much pressure on the accelerator to maintain a steady speed, making it much easier compared to my old car. However, the power is slightly weaker when accelerating beyond 120km/h on the highway, which is understandable for a 1.5T small displacement engine. Overall, it's good performance and a fair 4 out of 5. **Design**: The dimensions of a C-segment car (4602mm in length) make it stand out in the neighborhood, and the LED headlights along with the full-width taillights give it high recognition when lit up at night – a neighbor even asked me if it’s a "luxury car." The paint is metallic, which doesn’t fade easily under the blazing Malaysian sun. That said, the side profile could be sharper for a sportier look, but I personally like the current sophisticated style. A 4 out of 5 is spot on. **Safety Features**: In this aspect, Proton really delivers! The 6 airbags and 360-degree camera are lifesavers when parking in the narrow, old streets of Kuala Lumpur. The adaptive cruise control (ACC) makes long drives on the PLUS Highway super convenient, while lane departure warnings and autonomous emergency braking worked impressively during an incident where the car in front braked suddenly – the system helped me slow down immediately, preventing a minor accident. The only slight regret is the lack of automatic parking, though it's not a major issue for experienced drivers. Overall, the safety performance is very reassuring and deserves a solid 4 out of 5. All in all, as a family car, achieving this level of performance at this price point feels well worth it to me!

Owner of 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Premium
As the owner of the 2024 Proton S70 1.5T Premium, I've been driving it for almost three months, and overall, the experience has been quite good! First, let's talk about the exterior, I'd give it a 4 out of 5 — the large front grille combined with the LED headlights looks particularly sharp under the Malaysian sun, and the side profile is sleek too. When parked at Lotus's supermarket parking lot, I've been asked a few times by passersby if this was a new model. However, the rear design is a bit conservative, and if the taillights were designed more aggressively, it would be perfect, so I deducted one point. Now let's talk about performance, also a 4 out of 5. The 1.5T engine provides more than enough power during Kuala Lumpur's morning rush hour, especially on roads like Jalan Tun Razak, which often involve stop-and-go traffic. The 7-speed DCT gearbox shifts smoothly with almost no jerking. Last week, I took my family to Genting Highlands, and the turbo kicked in early (maximum torque at just 1750 rpm), making uphill drives feel effortless even with five people in the car. Overtaking is a breeze — a slight press on the accelerator and you really feel the acceleration. However, the rear suspension is a torsion beam, so going over speed bumps at toll plazas on highways makes the rear passengers feel a bit bumpy. If it came with an independent suspension, it would have been even better. All in all, for this price range, getting a car like this is truly excellent value for money. It's perfectly suitable as a daily driver and family car!
