Nowadays, Malaysia's family SUV market is leaning towards "large space + intelligence". Consumers desire a 7-seater layout to accommodate multiple passengers while also expecting uncompromised configuration experience. As a D-segment model under Proton, the Proton X90 1.5TGDI BSG Executive 2023 features a core 1.5T + 48V mild hybrid system, combined with class-leading wheelbase dimensions and standard intelligent configurations, making it a strong contender for users looking to upgrade their vehicle. This time, through static experiences and dynamic test drives, we aim to see whether it can balance the multiple demands of family users for space, performance, and practicality.

From the exterior, the overall styling of the X90 Executive tends to be stable, yet the detailed design is distinctive. The large vertical waterfall-style front grille paired with the Proton logo offers a visually grand appearance; the LED headlight unit naturally integrates with the grille edges, and all variants come standard with automatic headlights and daytime running lights, ensuring daily convenience. The side profile features smooth lines, with a length of 4830mm and a wheelbase of 2805mm providing a balanced proportion, while the 18-inch multi-spoke rims, albeit conventional in design, suit its family-oriented positioning. At the rear, the through-type LED taillights have high recognition when lit, and the silver skid plate under the rear bumper adds a touch of ruggedness to the SUV's overall look. The design is not overly ornate, aligning more with family users' aesthetics.

Stepping inside, the X90 Executive's interior primarily features dark tones, with soft-touch materials covering the dashboard and silver trim accents in specific areas, offering a decent quality feel among models in the same price range. The 12.3-inch central touchscreen is the visual focal point, with a clear interface layout and satisfactory operational smoothness; the combination of a Head-up Display (HUD) and a full LCD instrument cluster makes it easier to access information while driving, which are pleasant add-ons in a D-segment SUV. For the configuration, the front seats support 6-way electric adjustment, while the passenger seat has 4-way electric adjustment; the rear seats support a 60:40 split. Automatic air conditioning, independent rear air conditioning, and a 220V power outlet are all standard, ensuring comfort for multi-passenger trips. Notably, the combination of keyless entry, a 360-degree panoramic camera, and front and rear parking radars is very user-friendly for beginners or family users, reducing the risk of parking scrapes.

Space performance is one of X90's core strengths. With a 2805mm wheelbase, the second-row passengers have ample legroom, allowing passengers even up to 175cm tall to sit comfortably with legs crossed; the third-row seats are better suited for children or adults on short trips, as they may feel slightly cramped on longer journeys. However, as a 7-seater model, such performance is within expectations. Regarding storage capacity, the trunk offers enough room for several carry-on suitcases in its standard configuration, and folding down the third row significantly expands the space, making it practical for transporting luggage or bulky items. Interior storage spaces like door pockets and central armrest boxes are also reasonably designed, making it convenient for daily small item storage.

In terms of power, the X90 Executive is equipped with a 1.5T three-cylinder engine + 48V mild hybrid system. The engine delivers a maximum horsepower of 177PS, with the motor contributing an additional 14PS, paired with a 7-speed DCT transmission. During actual driving, the mild hybrid system provides slight assistance during start-up, making take-off smoother, and at low speeds, the vibrations of the three-cylinder engine are barely noticeable. When switched to sport mode, the throttle response becomes more aggressive, with direct power output for mid-range acceleration and overtaking, meeting the needs of both daily city commuting and highway driving. However, during sudden acceleration, there’s a slight delay in gear shifting, which is a common characteristic of DCT transmissions.

The handling and chassis performance lean towards a comfort-oriented tuning. The combination of front MacPherson struts and rear multi-link independent suspension effectively filters out small bumps on the road. When passing over speed bumps or uneven road surfaces, body movement is kept within a reasonable range, and rear passengers won't feel significant discomfort. The steering wheel offers moderate resistance, and the precision matches the positioning of a family SUV, making daily driving effortless. The body maintains good stability at high speeds without feeling floaty. In terms of fuel consumption, we tested it under combined conditions of urban congestion and highway cruising, resulting in an average fuel consumption of approximately 8.5L per 100 kilometers. Considering its 1.7-ton weight and 7-seat configuration, this fuel efficiency is about average within the same class.

The details of ride comfort have been well handled. The vehicle does a good job of controlling tire and wind noise, allowing conversations inside the cabin to remain undisturbed at high speeds. The seat padding is moderately soft, making long periods of sitting less tiring. The 48V mild hybrid system integrates almost seamlessly, without affecting the driving experience. However, the backrest angle of the third-row seats is relatively upright, slightly reducing comfort for long trips, making it more suitable for short-term emergency use.

Overall, Proton X90 1.5TGDI BSG Executive 2023's core strengths lie in its spacious interior, rich intelligent features, and comfortable chassis tuning. Priced at 130,800 ringgit, it offers outstanding value for money compared to similar Japanese or Korean models. Compared to vehicles like the Toyota Highlander or Honda CR-V, the X90 has advantages in wheelbase and features but slightly lags in brand influence. This vehicle is more suitable for families who prioritize practicality and need a 7-seat layout, especially those who often need to transport multiple passengers or carry luggage. It is also a good option for young families who demand ample features but have a limited budget.

In summary, the X90 Executive is a well-positioned family-oriented 7-seat SUV. It doesn't pursue aggressive design or performance but achieves a good balance of space, features, and comfort. It meets the daily needs of most families and is a pragmatic choice worth considering in the same price range.

As the owner of a Proton X90 1.5TGDI BSG Executive 2023 who has been driving in Malaysia for more than six months, what I am most satisfied with is its safety and interior performance! When it comes to safety, it’s absolutely top-notch and deserves a full score. On highways in Malaysia (like the North-South Expressway), traffic volume is heavy and occasional unexpected situations occur. The X90’s vehicle stability control is really reliable. Once, a car ahead made a sudden brake on the North-South Expressway, and when I had to brake suddenly, the car stayed very stable without veering off. Plus, with 6 airbags and a 360-degree panoramic camera, parking in narrow alleyways in Kuala Lumpur has become so much easier, helping me avoid hitting roadside motorcycles or curbs — providing a strong sense of safety. The interior also deserves top marks! Firstly, it’s very spacious. For our family of five plus two elderly members, the 7 seats are completely sufficient, and the third row is not crowded even for the elders. The materials used in the interior are of high quality — everything you touch is soft and well-padded. The 12.3-inch touchscreen on the dashboard is smooth to operate, so even my dad, who’s not very tech-savvy, can use it with ease. The rear air conditioning is another thoughtful feature. With Malaysia’s year-round 30-degree-plus weather, when the rear seats are occupied by kids, having independent air conditioning keeps them from complaining about the heat. Also, the HUD (head-up display) is so practical — I don’t need to look down at the dashboard while driving on the highway, allowing me to stay focused on the road. In summary, these two aspects make me feel that the RM130,000+ spent was absolutely worth it. I highly recommend it to anyone in Malaysia looking to upgrade to a 7-seater SUV!

As the owner of the Proton X90 1.5TGDI BSG Executive 2023, after driving in Malaysia for almost half a year, what I want to praise the most is its interior! The 5-star rating is absolutely well-deserved—stepping into the car, the first impression is "premium." The 12.3-inch touch screen on the center console is very responsive, and even my mom, who isn’t very tech-savvy, can easily access the air conditioner and radio functions. The front seats have 6-way adjustments. During long highway drives from Kuala Lumpur to Penang for three to four hours, my back doesn’t feel tired at all. The rear seats even come with independent air conditioning; when taking the whole family to Genting Highlands on weekends, the kids and elders in the back can adjust the temperature themselves without distracting me. The most thoughtful feature is the 220V power outlet in the middle of the second row. Last time we went camping in Cameron Highlands, I directly plugged in to make a hot cup of coffee, which was a lifesaver during the mountain road traffic jam! Giving the exterior 4 stars is fair—it looks grand overall, and the LED headlights are particularly bright on rural roads at night, with excellent recognition. However, the chrome trim on the front is a bit too flashy. Last time I parked in the old town area of Ipoh, a few friends joked that it looked like it was "gilded." If it could be a bit more low-key, it would be perfect!

As the owner of the Proton X90 1.5TGDI BSG Executive 2023, after driving it for nearly half a year in Malaysia, what I’m most satisfied with is its safety features! The traffic on Malaysia’s highways (such as the North-South Expressway) is heavy, and sometimes when encountering sudden lane changes, the vehicle stability system responds super fast, instantly pulling the car back on track. Last week, I took the whole family to Genting Highlands, and during the descent where there were many continuous bends, the hill assist and braking systems performed excellently, making the drive completely reassuring. Additionally, with 6 airbags and 360-degree imaging, finding parking spaces in Kuala Lumpur’s urban areas, even in narrow alleys, is a breeze. It’s so friendly to new drivers like me, and I have to give full marks for safety! As for the interior, the overall quality is pretty decent, and the 12.3-inch touchscreen on the central control panel is very responsive, with air conditioning adjustments being quite convenient. However, I feel that the material of the second-row seat could be a bit softer; the last time I brought my parents to Penang, they mentioned that sitting for three hours felt a bit hard. Additionally, the third-row storage space is a bit limited, with no place even to put phones, which is slightly regrettable. I would rate this part 4 stars, but overall, I'm still quite satisfied.
