Specs

The mid-size luxury SUV market has always been highly competitive. Consumers value brand style while also having clear demands for safety features and practical space. The 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum, as a popular choice in this segment, not only continues Volvo's iconic safety DNA but also optimizes power and fuel consumption performance through its 48V mild hybrid system, while maintaining high cost-performance in terms of configuration. This test drive will focus on its static design, dynamic driving experience, and daily practicality to see whether it can meet the dual expectations of family users and young consumers.

Approaching the 2022 XC60 B5 Momentum, you immediately feel the recognizability of Volvo's family design. The vertical waterfall-style front grille, combined with the "Thor's Hammer" LED daytime running lights, makes the front look steady yet refined. The side profile features smooth lines, with a well-proportioned 4688mm length and 2865mm wheelbase, and the addition of 19-inch wheels enhances its sporty feel. The rear "Viking's Axe" LED taillights, when lit, are highly recognizable. The overall design is simple and elegant, fitting the positioning of a luxury SUV.

Opening the door, the Nordic minimalist style of the interior is immediately apparent. The center console is built around a 9-inch touchscreen with minimal physical buttons and a clear operating logic. Soft-touch materials are extensively used, providing a delicate touch, while metal accents add a low-key luxurious feel. In terms of features, the entire lineup comes standard with a fully digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, electric seats with memory function for front and rear, and multi-directional adjustable front seats to easily find a comfortable seating position. The rear seats can be folded down in a 60:40 ratio to further expand storage space, making it easy to store strollers or large luggage.

Space is one of the advantages of the XC60 B5 Momentum. The 2865mm wheelbase provides ample rear legroom, with a passenger of 175cm tall having about two fist-widths of space between their knees and the front seatback. Headroom is also maintained at about one fist-width. In terms of storage capability, the front center armrest box and door panel storage compartments are moderately sized. The rear row is equipped with independent air conditioning vents and power outlets, ensuring both practicality and convenience in its detailed design.

Starting the vehicle, the powertrain combining a 2.0T turbocharged engine and a 48V mild hybrid system springs to life, delivering a total output of 249PS horsepower and 350N·m torque (maximum engine torque 350N·m, with an additional 30N·m from the electric motor), paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. During daily driving, the mild hybrid system effectively reduces jolts during stop-starts. The power response is quick during acceleration, and the acceleration process is smooth and linear. When switched to sport mode, throttle sensitivity improves, offering strong mid-to-late acceleration. The official 0-100km/h time of 6.9 seconds is more than enough to handle city overtaking and highway cruising needs.

In terms of handling, the combination of front double wishbone independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension strikes a balance between comfort and stability. The steering is precise with minimal lag; it is light at low speeds and stable at high speeds, giving the driver sufficient confidence. On bumpy roads, the suspension effectively filters out small vibrations, keeping the body stable. During cornering, body roll is well-controlled, and the All Wheel Drive system provides excellent traction, maintaining stability even on slippery roads.

The fuel consumption is as expected. After a combined test drive through urban congested sections and highways, the actual fuel consumption is approximately 8.2L/100km, which is close to the official 7.6L/100km combined fuel consumption. For a 1.8-ton four-wheel-drive SUV, this achievement can be considered acceptable. Noise control is well-managed; wind and tire noise are effectively isolated during highway driving, keeping the cabin quiet. Coupled with the Harman Kardon 14-speaker sound system, the driving experience is comfortable.

Overall, the core advantages of the 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum lie in its comprehensive safety features, comfortable driving experience, and balanced performance. Compared to similar models such as the BMW X3 or Mercedes-Benz GLC, it offers more comprehensive safety configurations, a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty that is more appealing, and is more budget-friendly.

This car is suitable for family users who value safety and practicality, and it can also meet the needs of young consumers seeking understated luxury. It does not have overly aggressive designs, but the details reflect Volvo's brand philosophy—safety, comfort, and practicality. If you are looking for a well-rounded, no-compromise mid-sized luxury SUV, the 2022 XC60 B5 Momentum is worth including in your consideration list.

As the owner of a 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Inscription Plus (CKD) and having driven it for over two years in Malaysia, what I am most satisfied with are its interior and exterior. First, let's talk about the interior; I think a score of 4 is very fair. The Nordic design style indeed exudes a sense of quality, especially the Orrefors crystal gear lever, which always impresses my friends and gets them asking about it whenever they ride in my car — it feels really prestigious. The Nappa leather seats feel very comfortable and offer excellent support. Last time, I drove a long distance to Penang, and even after sitting for 4 hours, I didn’t feel tired. The 9-inch touchscreen in the center console responds quickly, and the CarPlay connection is very stable, making listening to music and navigating very convenient during Kuala Lumpur’s traffic jams. However, one slight regret is the somewhat limited storage space in the interior; at times, it’s hard to find a suitable place to put small items like phones or keys. Now looking at the exterior, I also give it 4 points. The Thor’s Hammer LED headlights are super cool, and they are highly recognizable when driving at night, garnering a lot of attention on the roads. The car's body lines are very sleek, especially the side profile with its sporty waistline. I chose the Crystal White Pearl color, which looks stunning under sunlight and is also practical as it doesn’t easily show dirt, unlike black cars which tend to highlight dust. However, I think the taillight design could use some improvement. While the Viking Axe shape is indeed distinctive, its brightness at night is slightly insufficient, and sometimes cars behind might not see it clearly. All in all, the XC60’s interior and exterior match my aesthetic perfectly, and driving it on Malaysian roads feels quite prestigious. If the storage space and taillight brightness could be further optimized, it would be perfect.

As the owner of a 2018 Volvo XC60 T5 Momentum, driving in Malaysia for nearly five years, what I’m most satisfied with is its safety features! On Malaysian highways, where vehicle speeds are generally fast, combined with occasional slippery roads on rainy days, its automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning have saved me a few times — once on the North-South Expressway when the car in front suddenly braked, the system stopped me just in time, avoiding a rear-end collision. When taking my kids out, the ISO FIX anchors and six airbags throughout the car give me great peace of mind. Safety deserves a perfect 5-star rating with no complaints! As for the exterior, the classic Thor's Hammer headlights and vertical waterfall grille make it highly recognizable in the traffic of KL. Every time I park near the Petronas Twin Towers, it always gets a few extra glances. Scandinavian design is indeed timeless, and I'd definitely give it 5 stars! The interior has a nice overall texture, with leather seats and wood trim adding a touch of elegance. However, the central screen occasionally lags a bit, and the rear storage space is somewhat limited, so I’ll deduct one star and give it 4 stars — but it's absolutely sufficient for daily use. Overall, driving this car in Malaysia, both its safety and design are top-notch, and it’s definitely worth owning!

Owner of 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Inscription
As the owner of a 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Inscription, having driven it in Malaysia for almost five years, I genuinely feel that I made the right choice with this car! I must give full marks for performance — the hybrid system is amazing during Kuala Lumpur's morning and evening rush hours; the quiet and fuel-efficient pure electric mode at low speeds is excellent, with a combined fuel consumption of just 2.1L/100km, which is much more economical compared to my friend's fuel-powered SUV. On the highway, flooring the accelerator unleashes 407 horsepower instantly, making overtaking extremely enjoyable; the 5.2-second 0-100 km/h acceleration is especially practical on the North-South Expressway. The interior quality is impeccable. The minimalist Scandinavian design looks very high-end, the leather seats feel incredibly soft, the dual-zone air conditioning is super considerate in Malaysia’s hot and humid weather, and the rear air conditioning is also very effective. My family members sitting in the backseat never complain about the heat. Safety is undoubtedly Volvo's forte. The automatic emergency braking has saved me once in those sudden "jaywalking" scenarios often encountered in Kuala Lumpur. The 360-degree camera is extremely convenient for parking in the narrow streets near the Petronas Twin Towers, and the lane departure warning helps me stay focused during long drives, providing a strong sense of safety. I would give the exterior design 4 stars. Overall, it has a steady Nordic design, and although the "Thor's Hammer" headlights at the front are highly recognizable, they lack the sharpness of the newer models. That said, the design grows on you over time and becomes more pleasing to the eyes. In conclusion, for Malaysia's road conditions, this car's performance, interior, and safety are impeccable. The exterior might be a bit conservative, but it doesn’t really matter. I truly recommend this car to friends who value safety and quality!

As the owner of the 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Inscription Plus, having driven it in Malaysia for almost five years, the thing I’m most satisfied with is its appearance and safety performance! The appearance is a solid 5/5 with no complaints—Scandinavian design is just my style. The "Thor’s Hammer" headlights stand out especially in Kuala Lumpur’s evening rain and mist. The body lines are sleek yet understated; every time I park near the Petronas Towers, I can’t help but notice people take a second look. For safety, I’d rate it 4/5. Overall, it's very reliable, but there’s a small detail I’d like to point out: when navigating the narrow old streets in Penang, the 360-degree camera occasionally experiences some delay due to low lighting conditions. That said, the automatic braking system has genuinely saved me once—in a traffic jam on Jalan Ampang last month, the car in front suddenly braked hard. Before I even had time to react, the car stopped on its own—it almost gave me a heart attack! The six standard airbags and lane-keeping assist also give me a lot of peace of mind when driving long distances on the North-South Expressway. I just hope the imaging system can be further optimized since Malaysia’s narrow roads and sudden situations are fairly common. All in all, the performance of this car in terms of appearance and safety is totally worth its price. Having this car to take my family on road trips around the island feels truly reassuring!

Owner of 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Inscription
As the owner of a 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Inscription in Malaysia, my driving experience has been pretty good! Let's talk about performance first—I'm truly amazed by how this car performs. When commuting in Kuala Lumpur city, the electric motor runs quietly and smoothly, without any noticeable jerking; during weekend trips to Genting Highlands with my family, the hybrid system shows impressive power when climbing hills. The 5.2-second acceleration is not just talk—it boosts my confidence when overtaking. Moreover, the combined fuel consumption is only 2.1L/100km, which is really economical considering the high fuel prices in Malaysia. As for the exterior design, although it's not particularly stunning, the overall lines are very elegant, and the Thor's Hammer headlights have a very high recognition rate at night. However, I feel that the rear design is slightly conservative and lacks a bit of sportiness, so I’d give it 4 out of 5. What reassures me the most is the safety performance. Volvo's safety features are really complete. One time, on Penang's narrow streets, a motorcycle suddenly darted out, and the automatic emergency braking system immediately intervened, preventing an accident. When driving on highways, the lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control make long-distance trips much more comfortable. With six airbags and various assistance systems, it provides a strong sense of safety for my family. Safety-wise, I have to give it full marks!
